I would like to learn and get a manual car. Any tips on it? Nobody I know owns a manual car so I can't learn on a friends car. I'd be scared to test drive someones car without really knowing what I'm doing since I've only drove stick in video games or in an arcade The big downside is that I live in lower NY and the traffic is a real pain in the ass.

Realistically 'd be looking for something like a older WRX that can put a little work into.

I was told that buying a used one might be hard to find that didn't have the shit kicked out of it.

I'll never get over my friend selling his VW bug before I could learn stick in it. Knowing full well I wanted to learn.

I just hope I like driving and being in a WRX as much as I think I will. I've liked them since I was in middle school.

4c6f31 No.8510

Its no biggie, just be mindful that each car will have different engine and shifting characteristics. Its up to you to not freak out and find the "biting point" of the car. you're in

You will. There's something about finally owning a dream car. Although, I should warn you, that need to check the Hot Wheels section for them only gets worse.

This. Between my family and I we have 3 different manuals and every time I switch I almost have to relearn for a few minutes. Just picked up a 4th one actually, looking forward to trying it.

I have a bone stock 2005 STi (best model year coming through) as my DD and it's bretty good. You will get used to the power but that is the way it is with any car no matter how powerful it is. It still puts a smile on my face every time I drive it.

Not sure if I'll go new or used when the time comes. I've been told Rally cars used tend to be worn in. I like how the new one looks, but almost every year of it I like. The WRX and the Mustanf are two cars I just seem to like no matter the year.

But that 1.5l e-vtec engine is just crazy, the 5th gear is so long it actually slows down when you shift up from top speed.

Great for fuel efficiency tho, on my first try i got it up to almost 50mpg mostly highway.

It's an 86.5. It runs pretty good, but I've got some issues with vacuum lines I need to sort out. It burns oil, but that kind of comes with the territory. It also leaks power steering fluid. I don't really haul much with it because lol z24 so it's a fucking turd, but it's a solid truck. Surprisingly it's not a rusty pile of shit, though. Only has one little spot on the frame that I've been meaning to clean up and weld a little patch panel over.

I could probably stand to put a new clutch in it as well as tires, but I paid $800 for it, so I'm not too anxious to go and drop a shitload of money into it. It's a good little beater truck, but I'm sure by the time I'm done with it, it'll be going to the junk yard.

I've only got like 255k on mine. As far as reliability, the only thing I'm worried about is the tires. Other than that, I'd take it across the country and not worry about doing shit but oil changes and putting gas in it.

I have a few.

For one, I'd like to throw a 2JZ into a model A Ford.

I don't know why, but I think it would be absolutely beautiful. All that power in a straight six slapped in a car that's 80 years old.

I'd also like to take a skyline don't really care what gen because I like them all and throw an American V8 behind the AWD drivetrain. Throw a turbo on it and it would be absolutely nuts.

I want to hear some fucking nutty ideas. Preferably those that make my blood boil initially, but eventually make me want to build one.

I've had a pretty bad power steering leak for the past half year or so, to the point that I was having to add fluid every day. Over the last couple weeks, it seemed to get slower and slower, until a couple days ago when I stopped having to add fluid and the spots in the driveway disappeared.

Is this something that just happens? Did the "stop-leak" in the new power steering fluid actually work? Is Jesus blessing me for quitting porn?

c4b7ce No.8448

>>8429

There are different ways to do it, electrical like that is what's most popular, boat trailers that go in water of trailers that are always hitched to different vehicles usually have a hydraulic brakes activated by a master cylinder on a sliding tongue.

The electric brake is just a mechanical drum brake, but picture an electromagnet on the parking brake arm. When energized, that magnet "clutches" on the drum, which actuates the arm and spreads the brake shoes. Most electric brake controllers that aren't cheap shit are proportional and will adjust braking power based on how much deceleration it senses, so with a well adjusted unit you can get the braking to be really nice. I don't know if that Pilot is proportional like that, but that little scroll wheel to the left of the unit is you braking power, you crank it up to apply more total braking power, with the display reading the volts it's sending to the brakes. The big corner button on the front is to manually apply the trailer brakes.

Your's is unresponsive, except from the little dot lighting up when you initially touch the brake pedal, because there's no trailer connected. more expensive units, I've used a lot of Tekonsha units and many will display "n.c" instead of a blank display to signify "not connected"

Since we don't have an equivalent to half/n/, this board is probably the next-best place to have this kind of thread. And before you delete this, mods, consider that if you do, the only space on 8chan to shitpost about "trains, planes, ships, bicycles, [and] flying elevators" will be the plane fetish thread on /clang/. As a possible bonus, you may get marginally more traffic until someone makes a viable alternative to half/n/.

Anyway, just post here what half/n/ posts without whatever cuckoldry they may be infected with.

To start off with, I'm flying pic related next month to Orlando with family. I'm a 5' 7'' and 130 lb manlet with a smaller mom and sister dad's working that week, we checked the carry-on expenses ahead of time to make sure this really was the cheapest flight that doesn't involve a six-hour drive to DFW or Love, and we're all fine with no complimentary anything. Holy fucking shit. How does that even happen? $20,000,000 worth of engineering, and they're practically scraping against the walls in so Colombian basement.

Investments, that's how. That, and status symbols.

It's mostly the arabs. They buy expensive fast cars, put them in a garage in a shitty tiny expensive town with awful roads and worse traffic, and then don't drive them. They just show them off to tradesmen who come to work on other stuff, and post pictures of them online.

And occasionally drive into London to park them in front of Harrods.

It's all about making people know you're filthy stinking rich.
