So it finally came out after 15 years of anticipation; the A90 Supra. As the dust on its unveiling begins to settle, what is /o/'s honest opinion about it?
Personally I'm not as critical about it as most seem to be, other than the fact it does seem a little underscale and underpowered. There is still the possibility they give us a 450 BHP RZ version if it stays in production that long, but I would have preferred something that stayed more true to the FT-1 if I'm being honest.
Fighter jets are pretty cool, but even the oldest ones millions of dollars in 2018. So what would be the automotive equivalents to these jets?
F-14 Tomcat: Long-range, very powerful and fast hangar queen with active variable geometry (kinda like active aero).
F/A-18: Can do pretty much anything, light and maneuverable. Pretty reliable, but frankly terrible range and limited speed are some of it's issues.
F-4: Quite old (60s and 70s) but good for it's time. Reliable and quick, with a few peculiarities specific to it's airframe.
Why is it so hard to buy headlight fluid at auto parts stores? Every time I go in and ask the guys behind the counter for headlight fluid they just laugh and insist it doesn't exist. It doesn't seem to matter where I go, the reaction is always the same.
I just want to be able to use the antique motorcycle headlight I got from an estate sale. It looks like pic related.
Has anyone else had problems finding specialty parts or fluids. I think there was a car from the 50s that required bottle of blue milk to run. I'm sure that's next to impossible to find these days, and any leftovers from back then are probably spoiled.
Junichi Tanaka, founder of JUN Auto Mechanics, passes away at age 76
Can't believe there's no tribute thread for this guy yet, especially when there was one for that sleazebag Marchionne. Without him, tuner culture would just about not exist, or at least exist in a far reduced capacity.
>One of the powerhouses of Japan’s tuning world has passed. It was announced yesterday that Junichi Tanaka, founder of Jun Auto Mechanic, died the morning of March 5, 2019 due to complications from cancer. He was 76 years old. The firm was one of Japan’s most prolific tuning houses, the proof of which were the numerous world speed records held by the bright yellow cars that emerged from its walls.
OEM Honda prelude kits
Is this place legit?
I don't know where else to get an OEM looking or actual OEM kit for an 01 prelude. I'm in the middle of an engine swap and I want to kit and paint it when it's done. Should I just keep the plastic kit or get one like pic related? Left is what I have
The Grand Tour Season 3
New season, new thread. First episode goes up on the 18th but what I found more interesting was that they've made a video game that will release a few days before. It sounds awful, and for $15 they don't seem to be very confident in it themselves. I'm considering buying it just out of morbid curiosity.
Worht my buy?
Not gearboxes, because physical disability should not necessarily be an obstacle to driving. Pointless to anyone with the normal amount of functional limbs though…
And rain-sensing wipers are good. If they could also automatically turn off the foglights they'd be great. *hits blunt* if wipers on every car could turn off the foglights automatically, that would be awesome.
Automatic headlights? Can you not see how dark it is, or can you not see?
f you need assistance that much, why not just get the bus?
Shit like 'lane assist' or 'self parking' is only necessary if you have fuck all, or close to fuck all hand - eye coordination, spacial awareness and overall ability, in which case you should be on the variety club minibus sharing window spit.
We're becoming too reliant on technology imo, and that will make us lazy and inattentive. When facing oncoming vehicle on a 60mph country road, I want that driver to be as awake and aware and in control as I am.
Okay so I have this personal problem.
Normally, each car has a set of colors that fit on it right? For example silver Mercedes' or a blue Impreza among the most obvious ones.
But I can't for the life of me visualize the colors that fit the most on american cars. They all just look out of place, idk.
Even colors like black or white, cause the old ones especially are huge barges where there's a lot of surface for the color to cover and it ends up looking like "too much color" (I know this sounds stupid).
Dunno if this is just because I'm european or what but I would hope if american car enthusiasts would show me burgerbarges with good looking and fitting paintjobs.
Are racing liveries the least cringy form of graphic modifications?
How cringy is it to see a car with pretend racing livery on the road compared to a car fast and furious'd the fuck up?
Also livery thread, post your TOM's Supras and such. Video game nerds also welcome.
The joys of classic cars
Took my 89 golf for it's annual* MOT test this morning, it passed with only one advisory note about a minor oil leak which I was already aware of. Imaginemysurprise.jpg
Half an hour later, turned the key… nothing. The ignition barrel is kerfucked.
A bit of wire, some sparks and smoke later, and I managed to start it up and make it home. Somehow, replacement parts are still available, despite the VW parts guy telling me they're not.
Tomorrow i'll be figuring out how to fit the new one…
Any other anons have a classic car as their daily driver, and how much of a pain in the colon is it?
*14 months, because I am absent-minded. Got away with it, again.
P.S., not my golf in pic, I don't have any… mine's a 1.6CL 4+E with electric, er, nothing, faded paint and some rough bits. Yes, it's a rat, but hasn't been modded (molested) by a teenager.
Best Cars of Gran Turismo 6?
I'm trying to compile the best 40 cars of Gran Turismo 6 (roughly in order of performance) before the servers for the game go down in March. The 40 cars will be arranged in such a way that you can beat the entire game using just those, because they're at various PP categories.
Rules for the list:
>No prize cars
>No dirty DLC cars or their equivalents
>No General Motors cars
>Avoid Autosport cars
>Extra points if they were available in original GT1/GT2 games

The list so far:
>01. Honda Beat '92
>02. Mini Cooper '98
>03. Triumph Spitfire '74
>04. Mazda MX-5 '89
>05. Toyota 86 Racing '13

Got any feedback? I'm still short 10 cars so if there are any recommendations they can easily help.
Shitty deals! Cars that breakdown! horrific customs!
Sporty But Reliable (Touring Capable) Cars
So I'm going to be in the market for a second car soon. I want something I can have fun in, but still carry passengers and drive across the country in. 2 seaters maaaybe (I've been looking at some 90s MR2s) but preferably at least 4. I am a very big fan of long distance driving, but I want to actually do it in a fun/nice car for once.
Faggots and cars
Me and my sister regularly go to car shows during the months of March - November for the purpose of amateur photography, which we then sort and post to Flickr. The first two pics are a couple examples from last Summer. Other than us and toddlers/babies brought along for the ride, the next youngest person at these shows are typically in their early 40s, with most attending being Boomers. These are people who, aside from their determination at keeping a classic on the road, live their lives as conservatively as possible.
Last week I was followed by someone called "Anita Desitter". I checked out their page and it's a literal tranny that takes photos of firetrucks and classic cars.
This week a handful of my photos have been favorited by someone called Grady Cofer, Jr. and another who calls himself "Cricri Nikon Photography". Both of them clearly have a vested interest in cars, and most of their other faves are of beautiful women. The latter even has a fair share of tit and pussy pics.
Yet I kept looking, and found out they have a thing for transfags too. Both of them have favorited 3rd pic related. Who honestly thinks this horsefaced freak is any way physically attractive?
Hell, I even looked at /cuteboys/ catalog once to see what it was all about, and one of the biggest threads there is about cars. No doubt some of you post there too.
So please, pray tell, why are fags and fag-enablers so interested in cars or at least, car photography?
Importing a car
The car I want to import is old.enough for the 25 year rule. Has anyone done this? I know there can be complications with foreign VINs. In some states the DMV will choke on them.
My dream is to import a 2-door Honda Today and turn it into pic related. Yes it would still.be a shitty little kei car. Just let me have my fantasy.

Who would you like to see collaborate? Mazda, FCA and Kia would be cool because they all lack something to make their compact and midsize vehicles special. Many other manufacturers are also giving up on sedans which will give this collaboration more attention if they succeed in this segment. They should copy Dodge's strategy of putting attention on the engine and using a RWD platform long enough to outweigh the savings of FWD. Mazda has the new skyactive-x engine which will give the line up efficient base models. FCA has the 2.9 TT V6 from the Giulia and that will give the performance models a lot of attention for having a Ferrari engine. Kia can use their battery electric expertise to make an electric compact truck which will bring their fleet mpg up. An electric truck can have a shorter hood which gives more space for passengers and for the bed. Collaborating would save them money on the initial development costs of switching to RWD and to make a compact electric truck platform. Working together will also make it possible for them to provide manual in their sedan/CUV platforms because they can afford to make a manual transmission collectively when they couldn't individually. Manual isn't helpful in making money or being the fastest but having a manual makes it sportier and cooler in the eyes of the uninitiated and looking cool is valuable as a brand. Most people buy their cars to go from A to B but they want to feel like they are capable of more which is why a lot are buying AWD CUVs so that they feel new roads are open to them. That image is the same effect that the Wrangler, Charger, and Challenger give to Jeep and Dodge so even if someone buys a basic vehicle from them, the customer feels capable of more in the presence of vehicles that really are. Every jeep gives the impression of off road capability even if only a few actually do. Every Dodge has the image of big muscle cars even though only a few of them are.
The individual cars might cost more than their competitors but they save a lot of money sharing the platforms and it will become cheaper to make as the line continues like it has for the Dodge Charger. Having Ferrari powered performance models will make every car on the platforms feel capable of more because they are and sometimes it just takes a really loud engine to make it believable.
Another thing they should do is to copy the Giulia's electronic baffles. If a car is loud all the time, people's senses adjust over time and are no longer excited by it. Having the car open up to be loudest at certain RPM's will make the car's roar be more notable even if it isn't as loud as having no muffler all the time. Focusing on sound and having properly sized backseats is better than what BMW does in terms of cabin proportions because the engine makes a larger difference than the small adjustments to handling and the customers will notice a cramped seating area more often then the balance of weight. Within the RPM's for the Baffles, each manufacturer can tune the car to the character they want, Mazda can have their cars rev high and scream loud. The other car they should make is an electric version of Durango. The audience that buys SUVs like the Durango and Expedition are willing to spend a lot and many want the interior space of these cars but don't care for towing. An electric SUV of this size is allowed to be heavy and this can surpass the current 300 mile range electrics currently which will give these cars a lot of attention. The SUV can also have a shorter hood which makes it easier to drive and gives more space for the passengers. This will also give Mazda, FCA and Kia more money to do fun vehicles like the viper, RX-7 and Stinger.
Wheel arch laziness
Aren't you furious about that new trend of designers?
That fucking trend which makes car designers make flat wheel arch on the side of the car and break the whole car flow altogether?
Well I fucking am. Fuck that shit. Make wheel arches great again like the Challenger does. There might be others cars having good designs regarding this situation, but for affordable cars, this is the only one I can think about.
Discuss and convince me this isn't an issue, because it pisses me off.

Where would one learn skills to revive dead cars?
Is it possible to bring even scrap heap finds to working order with just your own skills and tools? Or is a car dead forever once it passes a certain point like for example a rusty chassis?
Pic is just for illustrative purposes, I don't think it's possible to revive that one at all, rip R5 Turbo…
Peugeot ceo promised to start production of e-Legend, if it gets 500k likes online. Lets make it happen!
Road Touring/Scenic Roads
What are your dream touring destinations/vehicles?
I want to drive to beautiful places and camp in the countryside and stay in nice hotels in the cities along the way. I'm in the South, but I want to work my way up north, passing through Colorado and ending up in Montana. My car of choice would an E30, with sunroof and roof rack. Just me, my dog, maybe some friends, and the open road.
Non Playable Car-acter Bingo
Yes, this idea has been done before. But a) that thread died long ago and b) the car industry has moved into further poz since 2015. Also c) half of the points were about non car-related weeby shit that not many particularly care for.
How do you stack up?
Diesel truck owners
So I've run into a situation where I'm going to need a diesel pickup truck to use as a work truck. I've spent the better part of a month looking for a good used one, and I've run into an issue: diesel pickup owners are out of their fucking minds.
Trucks in decent condition with ~100k miles on them are selling for almost the price of a brand new truck; ones in good condition sometimes sell for MORE. Everything under 25,000 USD that I've looked at is either passing 300k miles and/or needs significant repair work to ensure that I don't break down and get stranded in the middle of bumfuck nowhere. Even 20-year-old-"this truck barely runs anymore lol" paperweights have owners demanding $5,000 for them, and how DARE you try to haggle the price down, MY truck is SPECIAL! You just don't understand how valuable these are!
Hell, just today I met with one guy who refused to even consider approaching blue book value for his 16 year old Duramax with a transmission that was starting to crap itself. Yes, I get it, it's a beautiful truck but HOLY FUCK YOUR TRANSMISSION IS DYING YOU STUPID FUCKING HILLBILLY.
Is a 7.3 F350 with 500k miles - one that burns, and I quote, "a court [sic] of oil per fuel change" - worth $18,000? In his ad, Bubba warned potential buyers to not low-ball him because "I know what I have!"
/o/, am I the one who is going crazy? These trucks can't actually be worth that much, can they?
And if they ARE worth that much, why do so many diesel owners feel the need to destroy their trucks with giant lift kits, oversized wheels, and extreme chip tunes? What the hell is going on?

HELP! 10 day old green spot from milk stain in carpet!
<TL;DR> Car carpet otherwise flawless had milkshake spilled on it that sat for 10 days how do I clean it out, get the green spots out and get the nasty smell out?
I just noticed today that the milkshake I thought fell when I left it on top my car like 10 days ago was actually just tucked away laying on its side right on/(in) my front passenger side carpet (not the mat). This bitch sat there for 10 days until I went grocery shopping and realized what happened! I immediately went to cleaning it but alas there are three green spots (and a nasty smell) still left on the carpet. I took really good care of this 1999 Cadillac SeVille STS the interior is otherwise flawless… I've tried using a steamer with bissel fluid mix but it doesn't seem to be coming up all the way. Is there any way I can get these green spots out of my carpet!? Should I try a quick bleach and rub w/ water and then suck it up with the steamer tool? This shit sucks. Not sure if I should be posting this as a separate thread I just really need help. It doesn't help that the carpet is like a cream/white either!
After the year 2000 or so, I don't think there have been any cars, particularly daily drivers, that people could genuinely consider as 'classic' once they turn 20 or so. For context, a 20 year old car now includes the likes of the Audi TT and Nissan Skyline R34. And besides, sports cars don't count since they're automatically classics the second they're discontinued.
I would like to be proven wrong. Are there any "everyday" cars made since 2000 that have a 'classic' appeal to them?
QTDDTOT: Why-Isn't-There-Already-One Edition
Doing my plugs and wires soon. I've got pre-gapped Bosch Iridium spark plugs, and the gap on the box is the correct gap for my engine. I'd like to just put them in as-is without messing with the gap, since the electrode is so easy to damage, and because I'm pretty sure I've screwed up a couple iridium plugs before by gapping them. The thing is, 90% of "pre-gapped" plugs I've checked in the past were set at the wrong gap (and were not even consistent in how far off they were).
So which is riskier? Messing with the gap to make sure it's right, or leaving them alone and potentially using the wrong gap?
What was your dream car as a kid...
…and at what age did you realize you will never own it?
Pics very much related. NFS3 on the PS1 was my first game ever. It might have single-handedly made me into a car guy. And of course that yellow Diablo SV was always on my mind for as long as I can remember.
Unfortunately with car prices skyrocketing
<and the fact that I am a total fucking loser
I realized that I'll never get the chance to have my very own SV. At this point I'm lucky na MR2s are relatively cheap, for now.
how do you when you do you do
How did you get into cars?
And when? Since you were a kid, or fairly recently?
I started being interested in cars cause of eurobeat.
Please don't laugh.
A friend once linked me to some tracks like 4 years ago and I got hooked and thought since it's popularized by Initial D I could try playing it with NFS3, a childhood racing game, and I wasn't the same since.
I didn't even watch Initial D until 2 years later.
I'm listening to eurobeat as I'm making this post.
You gonna get triggered
Post your absolutely blasphemous ideas related to cars.
I have a few.
For one, I'd like to throw a 2JZ into a model A Ford.
I don't know why, but I think it would be absolutely beautiful. All that power in a straight six slapped in a car that's 80 years old.
I'd also like to take a skyline don't really care what gen because I like them all and throw an American V8 behind the AWD drivetrain. Throw a turbo on it and it would be absolutely nuts.
I want to hear some fucking nutty ideas. Preferably those that make my blood boil initially, but eventually make me want to build one.
Why did car sports never catch on?
In the early 1900s you had shit like auto-polo which literally substituted the organic horse for a mechanical one.
Then once the war happened people forgot about the concept of fun and it took 100 years before Top Gear introduced Car Football. They did it several times, yet the only ones who followed in their footsteps are groups of removed rednecks living in California and New York. The only major contribution to pop culture featuring this concept is Rocket League.
>inb4 damage costs
Just use bangers or faster, safer, enclosed versions of those giant bumper cars that were in Takeshi's Castle.
There's nothing wrong with a regular football field.
Toyota bored of people gushing over their past designs; makes modern MR2 222D by mistake
Toyota City, Japan, October 6, 2017―Toyota Motor Corporation (Toyota) is set to unveil the GR HV SPORTS concept car at its worldwide premiere at the 45th Tokyo Motor Show 2017, taking place from October 25 through November 5 at Tokyo Big Sight.
>The GR HV SPORTS concept represents a new way to enjoy cars by integrating the thrill of a sports car with the environmental friendliness of an eco-car. who is tesla for 200 alex
>The design is reminiscent of
TOYOTA GAZOO Racing's TS050 Hybrid racing car that competes in the World Endurance Championship (WEC). A CANCELLED GROUP S PROTOTYPE WHICH WAS SET TO BE TOYOTA'S EQUIVALENT OF THE DELTA S4 KNOWN AS THE MR2 222D
>Features a targa top
that was also used for Toyota's legendary convertible sports cars, the Toyota Sports 800 (a.k.a. Yotahachi) and the Supra just because it can
>Powered by THS-R (Toyota Hybrid System-Racing) that is infused with hybrid technology refined by the TS050 Hybrid but in reality is a completely different system
>While completely embodying functionality as a genuine sports car, the GR HV SPORTS concept features LED headlights, aluminum wheels, and a rear diffuser similar to the
TS050 Hybrid MR2 222D prototype. The design evokes - Toyota's bond with motor sports.
>The matte black body color expresses power and aggressiveness and totally does not represent a further connection to the reimagination of the aforementioned rally car.
Mocking Each Other's Poor Choices
I can't seem to find the thread where we post recent purchases and then collectively laugh at our shitty judgement.
Just bought a '97 Grand Prix GTP because I got a good deal on the price and the only other thing I could afford was a mechanic's special.
I give it 8 months before no single electrical component inside the car works any longer.
How about you, /o/? What black holes of money have you recently saddled yourselves with?
Ford will stop producing cars
So ford is supposed to stop production on cars due to poor sales in comparison to trucks, SUV's, and crossovers.
One one hand signs are pointing to this making sense to bean counters. On the other hand, who the fuck thinks not selling ANY cars outside of the Mustang (and some probably shitty hybrid focus)?
Unpopular /o/pinions thread
Every other board gets one, so we might as well have an unpopular opinions thread of our own. Some of the ones I have
>I don't understand the appeal of cars/engines that have a "peaky power band" or setups with lots of turbo lag. Why the hell would you want to WAIT until you have gone through 70% of your revs before you get any significant power?
>I think twin charging, when done right, is currently the best way to gain more power out of an engine and that it should be utilized more. twin charging>twin turbo>supercharging>NA>one small turbo>shit>one giant turbo with massive turbo lag. Also, it has dat amazing sound when done right (embed related)
>AWD>RWD, though FWD is still my least favorite and my favorite car is still RWD oddly enough
>the only Ferrari cars I like are the 312t and F40
>my favorite engine configuration is V10
>Despite what I have seen others claim, both inside and outside /o/, the absolute biggest "poser sports car" is the Toyota Celica (and Scion tc since they're basically the same car) with an automatic transmission. At least Civic-fags actually mod their cars even if most of the mods are only aesthetic, and mustangs are still RWD
>even though I'm usually a massive classics-fag when it comes to cars, I unironically think that Lambo has been better during the last 10 years or so than they have at any other point in their history
>I'm not a fan of the Camaro inb4 "muh turd-gens"
>My second favorite car manufacturer is that one that the board owner put a filter on because he's a faggot. Yes they are retarded a lot of the time, but at least they haven't started half-assing the auto enthusiast market like other companies have *cough* Mitsubishi *cough*. The Dart is my dream DD
>LS swaps are supremely overdone, especially on small japanese sports cars. If you want a Corvette C5, then buy a fucking Corvette C5! Please leave the RX7/8, 240sx and 300zx alone, as its already hard enough finding ones with original engines that still work and haven't been fucked with.
Post Your Car Thread: "Saabfag Endures" Edition
Another post your car thread because I want to see who is still here. Bikefags are welcome to post as well. Post your car, what you've done to it, and what you are planning to do to it.
Picked up the new 900 on Friday and immediately drove it almost 200 miles over the weekend. It performs perfectly. The only issue is the exhaust is quiet as fuck - it sounds like a stock Corolla… All I can hear is intake… I'll fix that come fall and a real job.
Personal projects thread
Post anything you faggots are working on right now.
I just got done putting a sound system in my SUV.
Pioneer head unit, Clarion 50W 4-channel amp, Rockford Fosgate components up front, Rockford Fosgate 3-way 6x9s in back. Saving my shekels for a sub.
Why are people dog set about removing their freedom
Hi /o/ to generate discussion I propose a question that's been on my mind for a bit.
What's the appeal of car share programs? Or self driving cars? Why do people seem determined to give up their freedom of movement granted by owning a car and being able to drive?
Now, I do get some of it being related to cost, just buying, insuring, and maintaining is expensive, only buying a house will be a bigger expense. And if you're in, or close, to a major metropolis then space is a premium (and often sold at a similar price). So parking or having your own spot to work on your car can be a hassle. And also Normies are fucking retarded, I get that too.
But who would want to drive a literal rental car everyday (cause even if you're retarded you know how those get treated). But even you can at least decide where you want to go, how to get there and so forth. Then there's finally the supposed "revolution" of self driving cars. If you're so uninterested in driving at that point why even bother owning a car?
IDK, maybe it's just me completely misunderstanding how these things work and how they're used. But outside of stupid congested areas where you can walk to places instead (which is where I mostly see these things and they kinda make sense) they don't make sense to me. It seems more like a tourist thing but a tourist has to be able to GET to the places and would make better plans using existing public transport.
Anyways TL;DR What are /o/'s thoughts on Car Share?
Limitations on vehicle manufacturing

Was looking around for a torrent and found this on youtube. Funimation also has Second Stage on their channel, but nothing later than that. Here's the playlist for First Stage: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SVG7zusJ1t8&list=ELLBPz0QR3ebI
Third, Fifth and Final Stages are readily available on nyaa, but I can't find Fourth Stage anywhere. If anyone has it or knows where to find it, please post it.
I also came across an "Initial D Legend" trilogy, never heard of it but it looks like it was released last year? Also available on nyaa.
Also, here is the complete manga that an anon posted a while ago: https://mega.nz/#F!cQUFHJJa!MFUJaCq-RJ1ry1EAUGOU5w
Lincoln Navigator AKA Soccermobile 2.0
Lincoln's updated V6 Escalade competitor just won Truck of the Year at the Detroit auto show:
Lexus LC 500
This is one of the prettiest and best sounding cars out there at the moment. The interior is gorgeous, the ride is smooth, it's loaded with tech and it has 471HP. Some will object that it's a Lexus and not a Euro but these people should really GTFO. Even Daddy DeMuro loves it.
Do you find this impressive? I'm not a car person but I can see how someone can like working with engines ect. However designing an engine to be loud so it sounds "cool" seems like a retarded nigger-tier thing to do. Yet I see these fuckers everywhere and my car-loving friends seem genuinely impressed by this. Is this the popular opinion here or are they normies?
Female muscle car drivers
I don't get it, /o/. Two out of every three muscle car drivers I see are women. This makes no sense on multiple levels:
>Women don't typically find enjoyment in driving the same way men do and would have less reason to drive a high-performance car
>Women don't typically have the high-paying jobs required to afford cars like that
>Fun cars are the first things that married women make their husbands give up, so a male owner is unlikely
I don't understand it. How/why are there so many?
How long until the big push to make car culture a "safe space for women"?
Lexus SC430 / 4th gen Soarer
Does it truly deserve the title of "Worst Car in History All Things Considered"? I think Jeremy Clarkson for the most part is a scam and Top Gear is a show you watch for entertainment, not for its car reviews. But with that said, what is your experience with this car? Is the handling really as terrible as some make it to be?
ITT: Car purchases you regret
A thread to share experiences of cars you really should've walked away from.
Pic related is an EJ Civic I snatched up for 2000 dollarydoos. Pictures in the ad were real shitty, so all I could see was clean paint and a straight body. Texted the owner and he was very responsive and upfront with answers to my questions. He told me a few things were wrong with it of his own volition, leading me to believe he was being upfront and honest about everything, and it all seemed like shit I was comfortable fixing including bringing it back to stock ride height but come to find out there were a few rather glaring omissions.
>Clean paint was actually a half assed respray with cheap paint, now full of chips and scratches
>Busted turn signal stalk
>That nigger tier hyperflash mod, also making the front turn signals too dim to be seen when the parking lights are on
>Also nigger tier "rally style" rearview mirror, with no nighttime dimming; removed sun visors to install it
>Also also nigger tier fake carbon fiber fog lights, not hooked up
>Power steering pump and reservoir removed, lines looped
>Ad said manual trans; while technically true, it was an auto from the factory, and the owner before him who did the swap neglected to hook up the clutch starter interlock as well as the fucking reverse lights
>Misaligned starter; grinds when the solenoid disengages
>Driver's window sticks at halfway point
>SRS light lit
And the worst part is that after I found all that out, I still bought it. Thankfully I at least had the presence of mind to talk him down from 2500, but I really really should've walked on it.
Repair or buy my first car
My older brother has a 1999 Kompressor Mercedes he doesn't drive anymore after a minor accident and bought a new car. There's a list of repairs that I'm not really sure if I want invest in.
However, a neighbor a VW Cabrio for sale for 1000. But I don't know if anything is wrong with it yet.
What would be a better choice in the long run? I intend to drive across state borders frequently.
Let's say you run an automobile-ocracy...
What laws would you make the official rules of this car-centric country of yours?
>Banger racing outlawed and punishable by death, too many vintage/rare cars have been destroyed over the years (see pic; the bastard wrecked an 80 year old antique on purpose)
>Separate automatic and manual licenses like you have for guns, a stick license will allow you to drive slushboxes but not vice-versa
>All cars kept in museums/garages must be driven at least once every 2 weeks by a trusted driver and have direct access to a test track if public roads are not a viable option
>Shitty "art" projects where perfectly good classic cars are left to rot in the open are to be immediately dismantled, anything salvageable rescued and the Cultmarxist responsible executed
New Tesla Model S
New Tesla Model S revealed.
And fuck, it's worse than the original, and the original has some seriously ugly design points.
It's the car of the future, so why does it look so ugly. Literally, Elon Musk is framing the look of the future, and instead chose to make it a horrible pastiche of a new Aston, Mustang and a hatchback with autism. It's just profound how ugly this car has become.
Michigan Town Forces Old Man to Sell 20 Cars a Month
Stuck-up faggots in local government positions have told this old gentleman to sell all his 218 cars at a rate of at least 20 per month.
He doesn't have very many listed on craigslist, but if you see something or are looking for something give him a call. Don't let these go to waste. I'm going to try to make the long drive to help him out for a day near the end of this month, as it sounds like an awful situation *that is partly his own fault.**
PSA in USA
To Americans, are you hyped that Peugeot, Citroën and DS will hit the American ground in the next 10 years? This time it seems the French brands will be back, as they bought Opel from GM, which, oppositly, backed from the European market except for the Chevrolet Camaro and Corvette and Cadillac, which only sells 30 units per year.
So now that your Buicks won't be rebranded Opels, you'll have new French brands to buy from, will you do it?
<I believe you guys won't, since only the 208 gti and 308 gti have decent engines, but for the global population, some of their products seem to fit the US market.
Shelby Charger/GLHS, Daytona, Turismo, and L bodies
Friend just got back from overseas. Wants to buy an older car as a daily driver and as a hobby and he asked for my help not so much because of my mechanical expertise but because he's a babby and had a car thats not his mom's 2008 impala or a humvee. He asked me what I thought about the "shelby charger". Apparently thats an 80s subcompact…dodge charger that was built with the direct consultation of…Carroll Shelby.
So I'm pretty fucking confused. Anybody know anything about these cars? I haven't been able to find much? I tried talking him into something similar but more common like a datsun or a foxbody but he seems really set on it.
Carshopping and regrets
Well after 3 months my new car is officially totaled. honestly that thing was getting on my nerves and I was starting to hate it, but still it was my first car that I actually bought with my own money and got a loan for and shit. Also I can't go anywhere now and can't work so that kinda sucks.
6k I'm on the hook for and might still have to pay a good chunk depending how bad the insurance tries to jew me on the "value" of the car. I didn't even want that car though. 6k is more than I've ever spent on anything in my life, granted it was really the bank's 6k but with 6k I could take care of pretty much other problem in my life for the foreseeable future and move forward from this shitkicking paycheck to paycheck hell I live in now. If I was gonna spend 6k on anything else, my standards would be impeccably high/
I guess I'm just bitter. For 6k I could have bought my dream car in running project condition. The short time I had this car I was constantly irritated by all the inconveniences and problems caused by owning a "new" car (it was a 2007, much newer than anything I've ever owned). Everything being tied to electrical and computer systems. Battery draining, annoying beeper when I wasn't buckled, auto safety locks. Some of the things were just poor design cuz it was a goddamn saturn (the battery is in the trunk, which is opened remotely by the keys which is useless with a dead battery, but can be opened manually with the keys, except the keys lock in the ignition upon trying to turn over the engine with a dead battery. You can fold down the rear seats to access the trunk, but to do so you must pull two pins, located inside the trunk.)
I'm sick of cars that might as well run on magic with arbitrary designs and intentionally user-unfriendly. I'm not handy but I want to be but I can't do shit if everything in a car has to do with electronics or computers.
Why shouldn't I buy an oldass car with a good frame and low mileage?
new USDM car buying advice infograph
You may have seen the old one floating around. It's pretty wrong in many places and is missing a lot of good cars. This thread is for making a new one with input from everyone.
Pic related is the old one. I'd like to use similar categories for describing each car, but have a full set of options for each category from each continent. There might be too many to fit in one graph with that setup, so maybe we could do a separate graph for each continent.
A better template could also be had. Maybe I'll get that done in the next couple weeks. I don't know about much else. For now lets just discuss what cars to put into each category (I would like to modify those slightly as well).
Suggested categories (three from each continent, if possible; in no particular order):
compact econoboxes (example: honda civic)
mid-size econoboxes (example: toyota camry)
hot hatches (example: ford focus svt)
sport coupes (example: honda prelude)
station wagons/estates (example: volvo v70)
compact/mid size luxury sedan (example: lexus ES)
full size luxury sedan (example: lexus LS)
poorfag (example: toyota echo)
japanese trucks (because the only big ones they made are too new. example: nissan hardbody)
american trucks (example: F-150)
crossovers (example: honda crv)
mid-size+ SUVs (example: toyota 4runner)
mini vans (example: toyota sienna)
full-size vans (example: ford econoline)
deceptively cheap nightmares (example: bmw e46)

Sweden, Model for the West Considers "Assault Car" Ban
>Cars have turned into deadly weapons. They have been easy to steal and then nothing has been able to stop their advance.
>In Nice, Berlin, Jerusalem, London and Stockholm, they have been used as effective murder machines terrorists who wanted to kill many people.
>If people in the future will be protected cars must simply removed from the collection sites and city centers. It is not reasonable for a big truck can be driven right into Stockholm’s popular walking street on a Friday afternoon just before Easter. Politicians have been good at protecting themselves, but now they must also ensure citizens’ needs for secure environments.
Let me remind you that Sweden is usually "ten years ahead" of every other western nation, in terms of social policy. It's best to enjoy the ride, while you can. Personally, I hope none of you have the misfortune of living in Sweden.
ITT: Discuss the not so new news that CIA niggers, FBI, et all can hack into your car and drive you into a pole at 60+MPH, start a fire, steer you into an oncoming truck, etc.
If you have a car with a fancy ECU, and electronic throttle body, GPS, blutooth, etc you are vulnerable. Basically, unless you drive an old shit box you can be remote controlled. My newer hyundai has electronic steering. As in, there's no mechanical steering column, it's like playing a not so fast racing game. Easily hackable.
It's likely none of us are important enough to be targeted but still. Grinds your gears doesn't it?
I'm not putting this in the QTDTOTT because I'm hoping this is going to be a build thread.
Basically, my dad has a 1986 Toyota SR5 Pickup. The engine is shot, so he's thinking about doing a V8 swap.
I know everyone is going to say do a 2JZ swap, but his heart is set on doing a V8 swap.
We have both a Ford 289carbed and 302fuel injected sitting around. Both need to be rebuilt, but the 289 has a C4 attached to it.
I've always been a Fordfag, but I know it's going to be cheaper and easier to go with some variant of an LS or a SBC.
I'm pretty sure the 4x4 faggots out there already have done this swap, so that makes me think an LS1 or LS3 in an old 2wd Toyota should be that much easier.
This truck's work days are done, so throw reliability out the window. Obviously, we aren't going to do an LSX swap because cash.
Thoughts on what chevy is a good one to pull the engine from? Not too worried about wiring since Painless should be able to handle most of the hard parts. I'ts still going to be a bitch getting it wired in the truck.
I'm just going to be the grunt for my dad, since I do all his mechanic stuff. Give me a good reason to steer him in the direction of a 2JZ instead of an LS, and ill do it.
It's got a 5 speed manual BTW.
If this thread gets any interest, I'll post some pics.
Talk me out of getting a 2007 Saturn Ion
spent 4 hours going to 7 dealerships today. whole lot of shady salespeople who either basically shooed me out the door when I told them my comfort zone was 6-8k and 10k the absolute max, or tried to bully me into their financing and spending more than I can afford when I told them I had financing and a loan through my bank.
Came through with a 2007 focus and a 2007 Ion as the only decent choices. I'm not a mechanic, and I'm not a car guy though I really want to be and hope to be in the future. fact is I need a reliable and inexpensive to own vehicle that gets decent mileage, is maneuverable, and not ultra-gay.
is there any legitimate reason not to go with either of these two? I already decided against a Saab 9-3 and a Mitsubishi Lancer because I realized I'm not going to magically become a mechanic overnight or even someone who has money to burn on their car. Sure one day I want a project car I can tinker with and be proud of, but right now I need a rock. Visiting some more places on the other side of the state where some family friends (who all work or have worked in the automotive industry including sales and repairs) live and they're gonna take me to some of the places they know but these two are likely to still be my top choices if everything else I've seen is any indication
The 69 442 Hurst will have to wait
Just background info, Not my first car and not a novice drive. almost ten years of experience on the road, I've owned a Delta 88, a Ranger, and a Cavalier. I can check fluids, change oil, air filters, tires, ect but thats about it.
Cars I decided against:
Honda S2000 - Way too expensive for what they are
Subaru Impreza/WRX -
Saab 9-3 - Liked the car but the dealer was shifty and I decided I didn't want to buy euro for reasons listed above
Mitsubishi Lancer GT - Wasn't at the lot when we got there and mechanic family friend's reply was "No" when I asked him about mitsubishi
Miata - local dealers don't have any in my price range
Hyundai Veloster - Was too far away to see and a little too expensive
Pics are my past. Just hit 100k on the cavalier, really wasn't ready to lose her yet
Can someone explain the shift in car manufacturing from the more geometric and metal design to the more curved and plastic design? The material is probably just a cost thing, but most cars now-a-days pretty much all look like shit and look the same. I'm interested in how and why this shift occurred. I might be biased but newer cars look uninspired and samey.
>we asked Mazda: Why aren’t small displacement engines still a thing? The answer was simple.
>“Making a piston costs about the same amount, whether it’s a big piston or a little one,” explained Mazda engineer Dave Coleman. “Boring a cylinder costs about the same whether it’s big or small. Casting and machining two three-cylinder heads costs almost twice as much as one four-cylinder head. Making four variable cam timing actuators costs exactly twice as much as making two. Six injectors costs 50 percent more than four.”
>When you’re developing a car to a price, that overall price and profit is directly related to the amount it costs to build said car. Why build a V6 if you can engineer a four-cylinder engine with the same displacement and similar output at a lesser overall cost?
>And to drive the point home even further, there’s not much practical point in building a V6, as they “take up more space than four-cylinders, making a bigger, heavier car,” continued Coleman.
Seems four bangers are the future, well and truly.
Pic kinda related, most powerful production four banger.
/o/ under new ownership + Post your banners and suggestions here
Hello everyone, Saab anon here.
I got tired of looking at the brownpills and thought that we should have an active BO. I sent a claim for /o/, and now here I am. the last BO wasn't active since February
I already took the liberty of deleting the brownpills and spoilering some porn, as well as changing the board message. I also made moderation logs completely public because I like transparency.
Some things I would like to do:
>get more banners
>maybe get custom flags - like for automakers, racing teams, etc
>not be a faggot BO
Does anyone else have any suggestions? Post them here for discussion or email me. Post your new banners here as well.

How many of you in the states where you "need" a front plate bother and have you ever been pulled over? I ask since I don't want whatever my new car is to be ruined with drill holes or look awful with that huge plate we have here.
I know you can get a thing that makes it so it's not drilled, but I still find it really ugly where they put the plate. It really shows on some cars like the EVO, the STI. A lot of Euro cars too. Even on the mustang it really kills the front of it.
I just really want to make sure the plate is not drilled in on whatever car I get.
the inefficient jew
that feel when we could have fast rumblin' tumblin' cars superior to conventional fossil fuel based cars in everyway but the jewish menace insists we continue to use GASOLINE.
For the autistic purists, you can keep your old pieces of shit and burn oil all you want, this is mostly regarding a shift in the general production of newer cars. It is a fact that despite more efficient energy systems available, the jewish menace insists on keeping everything literally a century behind in engineering.

Babby buys his first car
Hello /o/, newfag here. So I'm gonna be buying my first car soon and I seek your advices.
My max that I'll probably be able to spend will be 3k. I have my heart set on getting an NA miata, possibly an NB. What should I be looking for and what should I be looking to avoid?
Also what are your opinions on NA vs NB, and just miatas in general?
Can I find a decent miata in for 3k?
Should I get something other than a miata?
Help w/ 1986 Trans Am
Pic unrelated, just a google image of essentially the same thing.
I bought a trans am for 2300, it's pretty beat up but it drives so i didn't mind the small repairs for the price.
Of course, mechanics couldn't come and check it mobile so i just took my chances. Turns out they replaced the dash with a 20v fuse when it needs a 10v for the gauges or something and that causes explosions, the wiring looks like a spider's nest, the injectors have holes leaking everything and the ECC is unreadable because it's too old for my mechanic's machines.
Now, this is one of my favorite cars so I really have no problem spending the money within reason to fix it and make it great again, but I don't know where to start.
I need advice such as;
Is a classic car workshop worth it, or should I just call a buddy who says he knows them well enough?
Is there a place to get copies of keys cheap for general motors cars?
Where do I buy good replacement parts for the trans am?
If the louvers are cracked (The plastic is snapped but the metal itself is still together) should I just glue it and get new hinges or replace the whole thing and if so, where do I get them?
Where can I get white-text tires to keep the classic look in the future?
Where can I get replacement decals?
Is there a way to know what radios I can put in it? Still has the original sound and stuff.
Upgrades, ways to make it faster or more powerful, any advice at all really. It's my first car, I want to get into vehicles but my dad is RIP and I know nobody.
Thanks so much if you guys can help, happy thanksgiving!

Hi /o/, /pol/lac/k/ here.
With all of these BLM roadblock-type "protests" going on, I think it's probably not a bad idea to invest in a grill guard of some sort.
I currently drive a 2001 Toyota Rav4 2.0L FWD. What would I need to look to protect most in the event that I need to break through a human wave? Would a simple bar coming up from the undercarraige to cover the radiator be sufficient, or should I get something a bit more substantial? I'm not overly worried about replacing my headlights; they're pretty cheap assemblies.
So what features do you wish were in more cars, whether you've seen them actually used irl or not?
Personally, I think air conditioned seats have more of a reason to exist than heated seats. I can count on one hand the number of times I thought to myself that heated seats would BARELY help out, yet I can't even begin to count the number of times my ass/back has gotten sweaty from a long drive in the summer (granted my ass/back are hairy). Your seat will get warmer just by you staying in your seat and letting your body expel heat, but there's not much you can do to get heat out once its trapped between you and the seat.

Appeal to get this board on the map
I noticed that after a hiatus of more than a year, the 'top boards' section of the toolbar at the top of the screen has returned, and we're not on it!
"Ok", you might say. "We're a pretty tiny board with a small community, there's probably a good reason we're not on there. And even if we were, what difference would it make?"
Until you see /art/, /ck/, and /u/, who all have lower posting rates than us, and all of a sudden have been kicked back into life through this free promotion they're getting. Turns out when you have something on view, more people are willing to have a look at it. I've seen all sorts of vehicle related discussions on /pol/, /b/, and even /p/ of all places. But due to the lack of how this board has been advertised elsewhere, most people probably assume it's dead at first glance, looking at the 0 PPH as we very rarely push over more than 24 posts a day.
My point is if /art/ can get on that top board list when it has barely 3/5ths of the posts that this board does and undergo a sudden boost in posting, then we definitely should apply to get on it. We're a legacy board who suffered the most from the exodus as not many of us hopped over, so imagine how much more life this board would have if we got a few more of us on here to talk about cars and car accessories.
Board is dead, post your shitboxes and what you like/dont like about them

DriveTribe, Jeremy's Other Project
The Grand Tour team is assembling a user-based website for motoring content. It does seem to have some potential. and since this board is non-functional, it doesn't have a thread yet
Amazing bright future, or just another gimmick?
Propose to me your ideal driving situation for the purposes of feeling comfy/relaxed. Be as detailed as possible, but at the very least include what you're driving, where you're driving (either an area of the world or even a specific road if you can), what the weather is like and what time of day it is. For example
>BMW E30 M3 w/ manual transmission
>taking the main road west out of Denver, CO up into the Rocky Mountains up to a sleepy hotel buried away in the mountains
>really early in the morning so that the sunrise comes when I'm roughly halfway to my destination
>timed so that the snow is just starting to fall as I drive but not driving so long that it becomes majorly thick on the road
>pipping hot mug of Apple Cider in the cup holder
>tfw you moved away from Colorado before you were close to driving age
Sport Car Thread
What's some good 2 door coupes from the last 5-7 years you would recommend? In the next 2 years I'll be in the market for a car. I won't have the room for a project car, and as much as I like the 80s and 90s. I know the time and work that goes into older cars. I want a fun DD. I can think about that older car later in life.
Something in the price range of the BRZ or the MX-5.
I'm not much of a fan of the new MX-5. And the Z the 10 years haven't done much for me. My friend has a 350 and while he loves it to death, I don't care for it much. I do like the BRZ, but I've never drove one.
This can also just be a Sports car thread. Post whatever. Pumping some life into this board.
Anyone offer predictions for this tremendous shitshow yet?
>First episode gets viewing figures in the millions, similar to the old series but slightly reduced
>Second episode loses a couple million
>By the fifth episode it'll be one of the lowest ranking shows of the week
>Nonetheless, BBC decide to renew it for Season 2
>S2 gets pitifully low view ratings. The only people watching it at this point are Gawker's readerbase, the Daily Mail's readerbase, SJWs (implying they aren't one and the same), and the families of those involved in producing it.
>Show gets canned halfway into S2
>BBC use this as an excuse to say "See!? Nobody wants to watch Top Gear anymore! You should have listened to us to begin with!"
The illegal sharing aspect of this program's gonna be hilarious though. I know for a fact people are going to dismiss whatever name Clarkson, Hammond and May are going to pick for their show and will start using "Top Gear S23" to describe it, both on Youtube and torrenting, as well as fan sites. Cue butthurt femishits.

Great Cars For a Bargain in the Current Year
Hey guys I'm on the market for a used car. Let's say on a 10,000 budget. I don't actually have that much but I am very curious about what's out there.
The criteria is this: Used cars that are fantastic machines that are older now but affordable due to horrible depreciation or mechanical problems, etc.
Can't add much myself but I know 2005-2007 BMW 7 series 745i and Li had some kind of fucked up engine problem that is pretty fatal but if you know a mechanic or dealer with experience fixing it, you could grab one for 5-8 grand (with miles) fix it for around 4, and ride around in a 7 series for 12.
Ethical Auto Journalism
Jalopnik is terrible for more reasons than simply being a Gawker publication; corporate shillery, pay-ola, constant self promotion and promotion of associates, and constant apologism for all the cancers of the car hobby are only a few reasons why you should not be giving them and other websites your clicks.
In this thread we list alternative publications to Jalopnik/Autoblog and other shitty blogs.
For analysis of the industry, the latest press releases, car reviews, technical and financial information, The Truth About Cars (ttac.com) is hard to beat.
For your retro and interesting cars fix, Curbside Classic (curbsideclassic.com) is a very good website for browsing.
Ate Up With Motor (ateupwithmotor.com) is a great website for histories of a company, a model, or a technical feature.
Hemmings Motor News (hemmings.com) is a good classfieds website, but they often have neat articles and period photos as well as links to interesting articles about the hobby on other websites.
Have other suggestions? Lets hear them!
If we don't pick good media in the car hobby, the vast majority of sheep are just going to read garbage, and make
even more a reality.
