What are your thoughts on these piles of shit?

28db07 No.1987

Decent on a budget.

Would avoid otherwise.

Only if I literally need replacement tires right away and can't afford brand new ones.

Tires are ridiculously important. If they fail, it could kill you. Same with the brakes.

Save them for fleet vehicles, I say.

Reason I made this thread is I had an argument with a relative on these damned things. all cause I said I needed new tires soon. "my friend drove to Alabama and back (Michigan) just fine" retreads, on the front, good for them. hope they aren't on the same stretch of road as myself when they rip apart. I wont put the damned things on my car.

Alot of trucks use retreated tires. In fact almost all of them do.

While this is true, there are a few things to note.

One, trucks ( I'm guessing you're talking about 18-wheelers ) aren't allowed to use Retreads on their steering wheels.

Two, those tires are designed with being re-capped in mind, the structure of the tire is engineered to handle it, but only so many times ( I'm not sure on the number, but there is a limit ).

Three, if any of the re-capped tires go, because of the rules they're nearly always dualies. So you've got an extra tire beside the one that let go to get the truck off the road safely.

op here, drove by a car accident between a chrysler sebring and a 90s sable. saw retread pieces in the intersection.

retreads? that's a nope.

seriously. not even once.

73198e No.2093

Caps on the rear are ok and manageable in a blow out.

Cleanskins on the steer.

b722e9 No.2251

not even once

fb1f0f No.2401

the only case ive heard of in which these are widely used is on the tires for big rigs. id imagine thats because those are significantly more expensive.

They dont dually for safety. Its for the weight

d0c761 No.5476

why would anyone who's not a trucker do that?

tires are cheep as hell

1f562b No.7087

In many places outside US, tires are not that cheap or you'll get crappy overpriced tires.

On the other hand, recapped tires for passenger cars are banned. My dad used them a few times when they were legal until one was disintegrated and damaged the quarter panel at highway speed.

if its just a shitbox, a car im selling or a truck i have no issue putting on used or retreaded tires, but i wouldnt even consider it for anything sporty or that i want to drive hard
