Every other board gets one, so we might as well have an unpopular opinions thread of our own. Some of the ones I have

>I don't understand the appeal of cars/engines that have a "peaky power band" or setups with lots of turbo lag. Why the hell would you want to WAIT until you have gone through 70% of your revs before you get any significant power?

>I think twin charging, when done right, is currently the best way to gain more power out of an engine and that it should be utilized more. twin charging>twin turbo>supercharging>NA>one small turbo>shit>one giant turbo with massive turbo lag. Also, it has dat amazing sound when done right (embed related)

>AWD>RWD, though FWD is still my least favorite and my favorite car is still RWD oddly enough

>the only Ferrari cars I like are the 312t and F40

>my favorite engine configuration is V10

>Despite what I have seen others claim, both inside and outside /o/, the absolute biggest "poser sports car" is the Toyota Celica (and Scion tc since they're basically the same car) with an automatic transmission. At least Civic-fags actually mod their cars even if most of the mods are only aesthetic, and mustangs are still RWD

>even though I'm usually a massive classics-fag when it comes to cars, I unironically think that Lambo has been better during the last 10 years or so than they have at any other point in their history

>I'm not a fan of the Camaro inb4 "muh turd-gens"

>My second favorite car manufacturer is that one that the board owner put a filter on because he's a faggot. Yes they are retarded a lot of the time, but at least they haven't started half-assing the auto enthusiast market like other companies have *cough* Mitsubishi *cough*. The Dart is my dream DD

>LS swaps are supremely overdone, especially on small japanese sports cars. If you want a Corvette C5, then buy a fucking Corvette C5! Please leave the RX7/8, 240sx and 300zx alone, as its already hard enough finding ones with original engines that still work and haven't been fucked with.

HOLY FUCK THIS

>Porsche 911 with engine missing

>lol swap an LS in there :^)

>SL600 with a bad but fixable engine

>lol 7.3 is too much for my pocket lemme put a LS in there

(check the video for what you can make a 90s 7.3 AMG engine sound like btw)

>R32 that just blew its engine in two

>Nah fuck the RB series mang ima get one of those dang ol' whatchamallcallit LS thangs

Whenever someone talks about LS-swapping a car with a perfectly good engine my opinion of them immediately drops to utter hatred and the rest of their opinions turn into trash.

>I don't understand the appeal of cars/engines that have a "peaky power band" or setups with lots of turbo lag. Why the hell would you want to WAIT until you have gone through 70% of your revs before you get any significant power?

Sometimes its just the natural powerband of the engine. And besides who wants to spend another weekend dissambling an engine just so you can dremel a small hole on the intake so the air flows better improving mid range and mpg gains of .000001

>I think twin charging, when done right, is currently the best way to gain more power out of an engine and that it should be utilized more. twin charging>twin turbo>supercharging>NA>one small turbo>shit>one giant turbo with massive turbo lag. What the fuck is twin charging? Dual FI setups? Twin turbo would be considered twin charged. Also Variable turbos are taking a huge leap forward.

>AWD>RWD, though FWD is still my least favorite and my favorite car is still RWD oddly enough

AWD is no better than RWD.

>my favorite engine configuration is V10

>My second favorite car manufacturer is that one that the board owner put a filter on because he's a faggot. I agree. Ever since FIAT took over they have been doing real good. Fucking turbo civic/corolla destroyer, first fucking small pickup with a diesel and the srt cherokee and hellcat.

Why use a crap engine when there are better engines out there?

>>7958

>what is twin charging

embed related

>twin turbo would be twin charging

no. just, no. The tl;dr explanation is its a supercharger with a turbocharger. The SC takes care of the low rev range, the turbo comes on during the mid-range, and then the SC turns off leaving the turbo to take it through the rest of the rev range. Twin turbos can KIND OF get close to accomplishing the same thing, but you'd either get less initial power increase with the 1st turbo than with a SC or end up with turbo lag. Real life examples of twincharging are the Lancia Delta S4

>AWD is no better than RWD

depends on what you're using it for.

>Why use a crap engine when there are better engines out there?

>talkin shit about the VG series engines

say that to my face fukr not online and see what happens

I feel like I should clarify that I do indeed like LS engines and think that GM can make some great engines, but what I like even more is seeing variety in both the modding culture and car culture as a whole.

Same engine that was used in the Pagani Zonda, just with a different exhaust set-up.

I would gladly trade in Buick for Pontiac any day of the week.

>constantly teasing, but never delivering on, a new Grand National, because it's the last Buick ~30 years that was EVER worth a shit

It's trash. I want my fucking 2017 G8/GTO/Trans Am already.

37255e No.7973

>>7969

I miss them too. It's a shame though, because where I live, it seems like Pontiacs reliably attract horrible, negligent owners. To the point that I eventually just ruled out ever buying a used Pontiac, because I could never find one that hadn't been turned to shit.

>Unpopular opinions

**I like my Scion TC. it has decent grunt and power output for a 87 octane 4 cyninder engine. Thing also handles well enough for a FWD, and I firmly believe that it could be a awesome euro-style N/A hot hatch rallycar if another 10-15,000 sheckels are thrown at it but I grew up on a RWD car and plan on replacing it with a FRS in the near future. May greentext about it. stay tuned.

File: 1456116130784.jpg (54.97 KB, 980x419, 980:419, Power-windows.jpg)

This maybe an unpopular opinion for normies, but I do not like Power Windows, every single person I know, and I mean every single person, no matter what make/model their car was, has had power window issues, button issues, regulator issues.etc Call me old fashioned, but I'd rather stick to regular crank windows, never had a problem with the,, neither did anyone else I know with crank windows

6a9be7 No.8313

>>8274

My main issue with crank windows is they're typically built with economy in mind so you'll get a cheap, wobbly, plastic piece of shit for a crank handle. A nicely machined crank made to a high standard of quality would be very nice.

a46595 No.8315

>>8313

That's been my thing as well, crank windows are fine and all, just 90% of the time it's going to become loose after several months and feel like the weakest thing ever.

5ce7ac No.8320

>>8313

>>8315

The way I see it, crank windows = simpler design = less things to go wrong

And it just makes the most sense. Like, do houses have power windows? Of course they don't! You shouldn't need electricity to open and close a window.

a46595 No.8326

>>8320

I agree with you there on things going wrong. I can't tell you how many times where I've been in a car only to have someone tell me "oh the thing for the window is broken so it doesn't go down."

6a9be7 No.8328

>>8326

Wouldn't surprise me one bit if power windows are another example of planned obsolescence.

c62c90 No.8355

I'm hardly an expert but my guess is developments will focus mainly on scratch/impact resistance and weight savings.

Powered windows are here to stay and won't change in any significant way beyond perhaps voice control in the foresseable future.
