Just got through changing the oil today, switching from 10W30 to 10W40 on a recommendation.
Before that? Within the past week I've swapped out the coils, sparkplugs, their O rings, and the valve cover gasket. 2 out of six were good, so I'm keeping them around in case one of the new coils fry, which they probably won't.
I now have to contend with replacing the seals & gaskets for the rear end axles. And while I'm doing that, I'll be replacing the rear end shocks & their bushings as well as the front end shocks.
After that, bodywork: Some guy backed into me at an intersection, and have to replace the hood & grill.

>>602Update to this. I want a louder exhaust on it; nobody fucking hears it coming. That may improve the power, as well.
Maybe replace the air intake, if I can find one that will actually DO anything, and not suck water/ice into the engine, or bring in air so cold that the fuel won't combust.
That was an issue with my old car in winter. That, and all the fluids going gloopy.
Oil. I want to get the right oil for it, rather than whatever cheap shit the dealership put in.
I adjusted the stereo, and discovered that it needs no upgrades. I found the function that focuses the sound on the Josh!
Bodywork can stay as is. I actually like the way it looks. The new-shape Focuses are lovely.
Frankly, it's never going to be a performance car without an engine swap, so I'm not going to bother trying to make it one. It's a lovely daily Josh, efficient and fun.
When I want a fast, high-performance toy, I will buy a motorbike.

2007 Renault Clio Dynamique 1.5 DCi 86PS, 5 door, slate grey. Wouldn't have been my first choice but it was a very generous parental hand-me-down after my old car's engine blew up at a point where I had no money.
> What you've done to it
Blown the gearbox almost immediately (they're made out of wet fucking tissue paper on this car) and thus had to get it replaced. The replacement is also pretty terrible - very easily the worst I've used in 15 years of driving a succession of questionable vehicles - and I'm treating it with kid gloves.
Smashed up the wing mirror after misjudging the clearance by about half a centimetre when reversing out of a deceptively narrow garage entryway.
Changed the oil and filters myself, had the other stuff serviced professionally.
Had a set of all-season tyres put on the front and lost one of them to a vicious pothole within 1000 miles.
> What you're working on
Getting a proper replacement tyre put on in place of the emergency budget one, now snow's being predicted for later in the month (winter has been thankfully mild so far).
Replacing the mirror housing and glass so I'm not looking at a fly's eye view of what's behind me on the passenger side.
Might have the inside valeted as it's getting a bit dirty and it's very difficult to run AC power for a vacuum out to the parking area where I live.
Thinking of adding a properly integrated handsfree kit.
In an ideal world I'd also have it chipped for a bit better power and economy as both are a little disappointing especially given that it's replacing an otherwise similar car with less official horsepower and a more primitive engine.
But in an ideal world I'd also have bought a VW Polo TDi - or at least a mk1 Modus - with my own money, so that probably won't happen, nor any other performance mods (mostly irrelevant when you use the thing for commuting, shopping, designated Josh bar runs, and motorway road trips to see friends and fuel is still £1.20 per litre even after some considerable recent reductions)., because I'm still poor and any work needs to be entirely practical.
Sorry for bringing some depressing reality into this otherwise glorious world of high powered automotive whimsy ;)

The 2004-2005 facelift that got the 2.4l is very very very very very rare with a manual. In fact, I didn't know they existed until this car fell into my lap. I had always thought the manuals had stopped with the end of the 2.0 1AZFE. Personally, I had no hope of getting a rav4 because I knew I could never find a manual with a 2.4 and that beautiful blue those years had. I was either looking for a 3door echo hatchbach I could hollow out and turn into a winter go kart or a nice 2007+ Yaris I could keep clean, then this RAV4 literally falls out of nowhere on me for a fucking steal.
BTW, the earlier model, 2000 to 2003 with the 2 liter is a lot easier to drive with a manual, it's a mechanical throttle and the smaller engine isn't as torquey, the 2.4 got a healthy bump in response AND it's got a very very abrupt electronic throttle. I still love it despite this, because the 2 liter, despite driving smoother, is a gutless wonder.
Also, it's probably one of the very few "SUVs" that actually earn that "sport utility" moniker, as the rear seats fold down, tumble forward AND come out completely leaving a huge flat cargo area. And the "sport" you ask? Despite only having a 4 cylinder, it's geared wicked short so it feels incredibly quick on it's feet. In 5th gear at 60 mph, the needle is terribly close to 3000 revs. 1st gear could be described as violent, as it's an already short 3.833 ratio, it also coupled to a stupidly short 4.562 final drive. Compounding this short gearing, know that it's pretty much the same exact curb weight as a subaru XV/impreza and a good deal lighter than anything in it's class.

90% of the stuff is from Rockauto, so it's really not that expensive.
In any case, it's still cheaper than spending a few grand on a used car, plus the money to fix up all of its surprises. I got this thing for free because my family didn't know how to take care of it and it ended up sitting in the yard, barely drivable. I asked if I could have it, since it was no good to them in its condition.
Also, because it's a shitsmobile decades-class, it's a good car for learning repair and maintenance (babby had zero automotive background before tackling this thing). If I fuck it up, oh well, it wasn't worth that much to begin with.

I like the sound of the J's 70RS Ti. Only thing is if you put it or any Ti exhaust on a AP1, you'll want to make sure you've done suspension work, as losing 30+ pounds is going to make the rear even twitchier.
Also if you're gonna put any aftermarket exhaust on a S2000, just rip the fucking head unit and speakers out because you aren't going to be hearing them. Just wear earbuds. Or earplugs on long trips. Honestly that's what I did with the stock exhaust.
Really though the first thing I'd do if I get another S2K is start tweaking suspension starting with a front sway, and then save for Ohlins DPV coilovers. I'd also get CR wheels to help settle that rear end down a lil more.

Well no shit, but how? I don't know where to start. I've got no money, no tools, and no mechanical skills
dc8376 No.4825
>>4819
First, I'd take a hard look at it. If it's been outside in the driveway, rust is your first and top concern because there's no reason to put a motor in something that's held together by freedoms and little more.
Look real hard. Don't give it a once over; I'm talking look at the roof of the trunk area behind the lid, look at the inside of the wheel wells, get under the car as best you can and look there too. Look at floor pans, crevices in the engine bay, the lot. Do inspect the frame. Surface rust/bubbles too. Note all rust on paper.
Now, get the dataplate tag and decode it for posterity. Your Mustang may be worth a lot (it's a stretch, but you never know).
Sites like this can help.
http://www.mustangdecoder.com/decoder.html
I'm not a Mustang owner, but it says it should be on the inside of the door somewhere.
You may also like to note down the VIN and run it by the anon that gets free VIN checks over at 4chan /o/ if you get a chance. You probably won't find anything given it's been in your hands for 25 years, but accidents might show up and they may be relevant.
Now, I'd get back to us with the rust status, but let's assume it's all good. You're going to need a little money and some tools. Engines aren't featherlight, plug and play or free, let's face it.
You'll need an engine hoist (couple hundred $'s). Maybe you can get a used one in your area? Consider doing this and reselling when you're done.
Depending on what you want, engines are a bit trickier to come by and you could spend up to or northwards of $1000 for one depending in what state it's in and how popular it is.
I'd see what's available on Craigslist near you, and eBay as well, for starters, and also think about how you're going to get that home. Friends with trucks are useful at this juncture.

At least over here across the pond, if you own a car made during a certain era (the older, the better), and especially in mint condition, lots of people will approach you in order to help make period pieces set in a certain decade.
