 No.1187

The deadpan aesthetic portrays the subject in a deliberately emotionless and otherwise impassive, matter-of-fact manner. Photographs in this style are usually casual, monotone, devoid of emotion, centered, and sharply in focus.

Your challenge is to create a deadpan photo and post it on 8chan. I will start the thread with a few famous examples.

Deadpan doesnt necessarily need to be photos of humans. It could just be a photo of a bush.

Deadpan can come in many forms, but is usually simple and devoid of emotion, like this photo of a table.

Just took this deadpan of a plane wing.

There is a problem with this topic for me.

In the examples which you posted the fact the matter of which is exposed has some own value, beauty, purity.

In vast majorith of things which surround me (especially during this season) I see no facts which would have there own value when separated from the flavour of the author.

> this photo of a table.

I lold.

Im not quite following you here. Are you trying to say that these examples are beautiful and pure on their own even without the "deadpan schtick" tacked on the end?

> flavour of the author

nice metaphor

Yes, in a way.

>nice metaphor

I hope that it does not sound funny.

Have you ever made any deadpan shots? Upload some if you have.

I had a glance though the photos which I like. Few of them have clear signs of deadpan style - not because I kept it in mind whil shooting but because it seemed natural to represent the subject this way.

Feel free to comment on how much related they are.

P.S. It is somewhat difficult to find a subject for deadpan style in Moscow without using small DOF - it is quite a busy city.

Oh it does.

Deadpan requires a strong subject, and none of your photos provide much in that area. Some decent landscape shots they might be, but deadpan they are not.

Thats's what I was talking about.

On a side note, do you have more interesting shots of moscow? Ive never been there and want to see what it is like through the eyes of an average person.

 No.1242

Yes. I will create new thread.

This picture was taken along time ago in a galaxy far far away... So I don't remember much.

These three are a part of a series, of the identity of the everyday man.

I did not pay much attention to it previously but those shadows on faces are very deep. It would be better if you lightened them just a bit so that the face features are distinguishable.

That's the point. It is how I see people.

On another note the DR on the Fuji is crazy, foolfams can suck a dick.

On another another note this board is dying. Why is this? For a minute, I could swear we had growth.

you just used this as an excuse to post a loli and get it pinned on the front page anon

Do not know whether this is perfectly dead pan but I like it very much - the horizontally stretched shadows, the cyan sky above the horizon, the lighted shadows, the colour contrast.

P.S. Terrible JPEG compression artifacts resaved to PNG - what the hell. You could upload 1500x1000 1MB JPEG and have excellent quality.

How about a new "challenge"?

Perhaps a spooky challenge. Shouldn't be too hard in these dire winter months.

Thanks for the reply, it means a lot. As for the file type, I guess I messed up. I took it into photoshop to change the size and I guess I saved it as a png.

I like it, do we make a new thread?

Just a winter rose. I like the way I captured it.

I'll make a new thread. I have a similar image to the one you posted.
