"Santa Claus is Coming to Town" is a Christ mass song written in America in 1934. It has become one of the biggest sellers in American history.
I just want to note that it is funny how much of culture and traditions that are nowadays owned by corporations but that will not be the main focus of the thread.
I want to us to discuss the song itself. It has an upbeat melody, yet the lyrics are scary. We are told to watch out, because there is an all seeing, all knowing character coming, and we WILL be judged.
We are told not to cry, nor to pout. This stands in stark contrast to the modern viewpoint that one should console crying children, rather than tell them to shut up.
