Interesting change of tactics from to what we see today. If before the average American would deny that the government is spying on anyone, now they play intelligence gathering as one of the most important tools for the safety of the people.

I've only watched 7 minutes but the Asian restaurant part seems especially contrived.

Bad actors in contrived interviews is nothing new. They can look silly going back some years later but we still get the same shit

In some of his videos his glasses are missing one of the pads. The videos are ages apart. I don't know if that means the videos were filmed at the same time, which would imply this story has gone by the script 100%. Or maybe it's a sign he's making the speeches under duress. Or it could just be a joke if he's a CG or pure actor creation.

Anyways, he informed us we are in the panopticon so the effect was to get the public to start acting like they are being watched

Also, it seemed to fly over most people's heads, but Snowden is the name of a character in the novel 'Catch-22' which is often required reading in US middle/high school. The book almost centers on the significance of Snowden who quite literally spills his guts which teaches a secret to the main character Yossarian. Also the first scene in Catch-22 has Yossarian reading and censoring letters (it's set in WW2).

The book is so famous that I'm kinda disappointed that more people didn't notice. Although a lot of news articles from WaPo etc wrote about the "Catch-22" of trying to regulate secret programs...
