So I looked up posturing and optimum heights for computer desks and I failed on absolutely every point, and since my Dad said he'd just get me a chair instead of me having on for christmas. I've currently got my keyboard and mouse propped up on piles of books, and my monitor propper up on a bunch of board game boxes.

It's a lot better with a proper standing desk, Iirc ikea do a cheap one that can be adjusted by hand rather than expensive electric motor.

I think my standing desk has been the best purchase I've made. I now try to stand from wake up to 7/8 in the evening. I used to just sit all day and had worse health as a result.

One thing to remember is to bend your legs every so often with mini squats etc. Whilst standing is better than sitting, standing for a long time with your legs locked is not good for your knee joints.

I know that feel, my monitors are currently sitting on some old OPSM2 demo discs, and my speakers are sitting on some industrial foam blocks. I once "made" a laptop stand using an old speaker stand, an empty box, an upside down bathroom trolley drawer, a metal plate, and some books, all blu-tacked together in perfect disharmony.

Never tried a standing desk though, I've got shelves right above my monitor so I couldn't do that without a serious move around. Have you used it for a couple of hours straight yet?

My old chair a shit too, it was an office style chair, but the head rest met where my shoulders are, and after a couple years of use it fucked my ribcage and collarbones up. Technically a handful of times with my dad, but I was always behind the decks rather than on the dance floor or at the bar. I never stuck around afterwards, because A: I hate loud noise it's much quieter inside the booth plus wearing headphones, and B: I mostly can't stand other people's taste in music. Also worth mentioning is that there was only 1 time I ever actually had an audience, most times I was playing to a completely empty room.

I've also been to a couple of nightclubs with my dad when there was a live band playing, which is a lot more enjoyable than listening to a DJ, but it is fairly uncomfortable being really close to complete strangers for a couple of hours. It's like being on the underground when it's packed, but actually less awkward because everyone is distracted by the band.

I've never been "clubbing" though, like out with the lads or even by myself. I don't drink or take drugs, I have no friends, and as much as I love dance music, I fucking hate the trash that most people consider "dance" music.

You'll be surprised how fast you improve; beginner gains always come the fastest and most noticeably, because your body is being forced to adapt to something it's never experienced before. It's not unheard of for people to put on more muscle in their first 3 months of lifting than in the other 9, simply because of the sudden shock the nervous system is subjected to.
