What's a CBT therapist?

Cognitive behavioural therapy is basically the "art" of breaking out of negative behaviour cycles that reinforce negative thoughts. Finding ways to consistently break the patterns, starting small and working your way up.

For example I previously focused on leaving the house, because not leaving the house lead to thoughts about myself as a failure and developing a fear of people, which lead to increased anxiety and depression, which lead to me not leaving the house, and so on.

The CBT part starts with finding a point where you can modify your behaviour without too much effort or stress, which will lead to different thoughts that lead to different feelings, and will reinforce positive behaviour. So in that example my therapist asked me:

>could you go for a walk around the block?

>could you sit in the garden for half an hour?

>could open the backdoor and stand there for 15 seconds?

And there you go, you have something that you can start with. Over the days, weeks, and months you keep taking it a step further, and eventually you're able to do the things that previously seemed impossible, and whatever your thoughts and feelings were will have improved dramatically, just by repeatedly carrying out cycle-breaking behaviours.

It's something you can theoretically do all by yourself, but having someone check up on your activity, offer suggestions for new tasks, and regularly reinforce the concept of CBT can make things a lot easier, especially if you have no friends and only bad influences around you.

For people who have good eyesight; wearing glasses is like looking at a game on your monitor, there are edges to your vision and your fov is less. Contacts is like wearing a VR headset, there's no outer edge to your vision. Only annoyance is taking them out.

There's no doubt that they're so much better, and I found getting them out to be super easy, it was getting them in that was the problem, I've not got a problem touching my eyes, the fuckers just kept falling off my index finger, when one of them went in it didn't go in properly, was sort of folded over then popped into place quickly after, and that one is a little bit blurry, think there might be some eyewater stuck under it or whatever, but this was after taking them out and putting them back in. Yeah there's issues with weather and contacts, the cold in your case. Also never swim in contacts, bacteria in the water get trapped between your contact and eye and start fucking shit up.

When I started I found it harder to put them in, same as you. Now I can put them in without a mirror and without effort, but taking them out sometimes gives me shit. The worst are when you have them in for a long day and they get hard to grip and flick out. Sometimes they have so much fun they never want to leave.

Went to my therapy thing, which went about as well as I expected. It was painful, Jesus Christ I didn't think I could get any worse at talking to people; I didn't once move my body, or move my eyes off the piece of paper I was holding, and I responded with "I dunno." to almost every single question, and did that for 50 minutes. He even went down to basics and asked if I was able to recount the alphabet or count to ten in front of him, and I just choked and couldn't do it. What the fuck is wrong with me.

Anyway, after that my mum took me to Asda so I could buy a Christmas present for my dad, I got him some digital kitchen scales because he mentioned needing that recently. She also bought me a shirt from Primark and a decent pair of black shoes from River Island as a Christmas present, I'm supposed to forget I saw her buy them though.

My midsection is visibly larger since I've started training it, and my back pain is pretty much gone, even when sitting down for extended periods. Why didn't I do this earlier?

I can talk to my mum alone just fine, but I'm even worse if she's with me while somebody else is around. I end up being unable to talk at all, and then when she sees me being completely silent and staring at the floor when asked a question she'll answer for me. I only started having some appointments without her sitting with me this year. I do historical re-enactment, we go around (generally) English Heritage sites and pretend to be Normans for a weekend to bring in tourist shekels. I've suspected that for a while too, I mean it's actually really obvious and I've fit every single symptom since I was about 12, but I don't really know what to do about it. I've been to various doctors, a psychiatrist, a psychologist, and several therapists, and they all just say I have asperger's, remind me that it's incurable and there's no help for asperger's anywhere near where I live, and then offer me drugs. When I was 14 I started "coping" with being unable to speak in most situations by at least making it funny for any "spectators", so I'd say blunt/edgy/awkward things in school that would piss the teachers off and keep a completely stone-cold emotionless expression, and everything I said would dodge questions or be non-answers. That earned me "cool points" and made me slightly more popular with the other kids at school than I otherwise would have been, because the other kids thought I was being intentionally awkward to rile the teachers up like a madman when actually I just couldn't get any proper words or emotion out in front of most people. Obviously that kind of thing would look like I was just being rude and disruptive to the teachers.

My parents were shocked when they both got called in by my teachers in school about my "rude" behaviour when I was 16, and they saw me staring at the floor and being near silent besides the odd "dunno" and a few head gestures, and saying things like "I think you're retarded." when the teachers asked me what my thoughts were to their suggestion that I might have autism. My parents were proper pissed at me and thought I was making them look like idiots, and it wasn't until I got diagnosed with asperger's one year later that they stopped giving me shit all the time. In fact they pretty much gave up on me at that point and left me to waste away in my bedroom as a NEET hikki for 5 years, until this year when I started doing self-improvement stuff and have shown them that I am actually capable of improving, unlike a real autist.

Difficult to say, as I was rarely going to bed at normal time when I had a non-24 sleep pattern. From the year I kept a log of my sleep pattern, on 17/01/2013 I went to bed at 11am, and woke up at 5:28am the next day, so that's 18.5 hours sleep. I had been awake for 30 hours in the day before though.

I tend to undersleep more than I oversleep however, but I tend to push myself with staying awake which is what makes me go out of sync if I'm not careful.

Sunni is the vast majority of Islam though. Like how Catholic is the dominant majority of Christianity. I think all muslim nations except Iran, Azerbaijan sort of Iraq and Oman are officially Sunni islam. Also finally got a bit of a life plan together, so that's nice. Going to look for part time work after my exams are out of the way, and once I finish my degree I'm going to go into the military.

I was originally going to do that but they told me my qualifications were high enough to do a course that counts as the first two years of a bachelors degree, meaning if I go to uni I can start in my third year.

Monetising a website I created January this year. I'm hoping to break £1 a day by the end of the year. I get about £2 a day on weekends and 50pish weekdays.
