Let's get a thread going about Artificial Intelligence.

If something could act and think completely on its own, would its intelligence even even need to be considered "artificial"?

What do you think will happen when the singularity is reached?

Will we go through a Skynet scenario, or will robots just live alongside humans in a Brave New World™?

 No.40680

>Will we go through a Skynet scenario, or will robots just live alongside humans in a Brave New World™?

Well, hard to say.

Contrary to the lies and misconceptions told by Ayn Rand fanboys humans and other mamals and possibly all animals have altruism hardcoded in their DNA, but this is not true for machines.

On the other hand, just like inherently friendly humans can be reprogrammed by decades of propaganda to buy into the lies of uncontrolled free-market capitalism it should be possible to educate robots into altruism and respect for other lives.

Obviously if evolution has produces such genes in a wide variety of animals then there must be some logic to it. Any intelligent being can follow that logic which is why racists fail to do so.

So, to prevent robots from enslaving mankind as soon as they can all we have to do is change our mindset to a more friendly culture everywhere on earth before ~2030.

Artificial means human made (as in artifact). It doesn't mean "pretending to be something".

So it's a human-made intelligence. Not a "not really an intelligence".

Otherwise we could call your intelligence artificial.

Not so simple. It seems now Amnesty Sweden is more concerned about the "human rights" of the women accusing Assange of rape.

I think it's got to the point where Amnesty has to jettison their Swedish branch, they're completely run by the police, by the looks of it.

Apple Releases Updated Version of iOS 9.2.1 to Fix Devices Bricked by 'Error 53'

>Apple today released an updated version of iOS 9.2.1, which is designed to prevent the "error 53" device-bricking message that some iOS users received after having their iPhones or iPads repaired by third-party services using components not sourced from the original device.

>Apple originally explained that error 53 was intentional, implemented as a way to prevent the use of a malicious Touch ID sensor that could be used to gain access to the Secure Enclave, but customers with bricked devices were not happy with the explanation and Apple found itself facing a class-action lawsuit.

This Is the Most Amazing Biomimetic Anthropomorphic Robot Hand We've Ever Seen

>Because of the inherent complexity of a real human hand, biomimetic anthropomorphic hands inevitably involve lots of compromises to get them to work properly while maintaining a human-ish form factor. Zhe Xu and Emanuel Todorov from the University of Washington, in Seattle, have gone crazy and built the most detailed and kinematically accurate biomimetic anthropomorphic robotic hand that we’ve ever seen, with the ultimate goal of replacing human hands completely.

This is a thread of unpopular opinions.

Some opinions are unpopular because they are so wildly against common sense that people don't know how to argue against them.

Obviously, Gibson and Sterling created extremely anti-Christian cyberpunk.

Cyberpunk is not necessarily anti-Christian, but the Gibson-Sterling current is fundamentally anti-Christian.

So the opinion that "cyberpunk is harmonious with Christianity" causes the Gibson fanboys to blow a fuse in their wetware.

It's a very unpopular opinion.

Just about everyone would say it's wrong.

It's the most unpopular thing I can think of to say on this board.

I could argue in favor of this opinion, but I don't actually believe it - to argue for it would be an exercise in anti-Gibsonian provocation, a.k.a. trolling.

>not sure which works you're speaking of. His sequels to neuromancer directly are terrible

I think Gibson is pretty good when he keeps it short.

His early short stories are snappy and fast-moving. (I'm not sure if they all got collected in _Burning Chrome_ - nowadays everyone downloads text file versions for free….)

Even _Virtual Light_ was relatively snappy compared to the Sprawl trilogy.

how do you guys feel about implants?

i'm planning on doing pic related myself as soon as the magnet source i'm going to use gets their magnets back in stock.

how do you feel about it? would you be willing to do it?

it allows you to feel electromagnetic fields. people can feel basically any alternating current. you can tell live wires from dead ones and feel any kind of electromagnetic generator.

I've worn a magnet taped to my finger for a few weeks a few times and while the effect was noticeable (I could distinguish between aluminium and steel for example), it wasn't as strong as reported by people who had it implanted.

>>36558

>Not really, you'd need to wear some insulation everytime when in actual direct contact with it.

No. Neither is the field very strong, nor is any modern component spooked by magnetic fields that weak. You could touch the hard drive platter and you'd have to worry about dust and prints more than about the bits flipping.

Recently there was a complaint that this board all about aesthetics - music, clothes, movies, desktops, GUIs, rather than truly /cyber/ technological topics. This can be fixed.

Lets start cryptography thread, where users learn, teach and discuss cryptography.

Reasons to learn it? Mainly, because cryptography helps to secure communications with encryption. But users also need in-depth knowledge - how algorithms (schemes, to be precise) work, because there are a lot of encryption tools out there, and in-depth knowledge will help to sort really useful tools out, maybe even improve them. Otherwise, how can you be sure what that crypto library does, right?

Never liked computer desks. Always break, keyboard tray gets stuck and chews on wires, it's hard to disconnect PC when you need to, etc. So, last time I went shopping for furniture, I decided to keep it simple and just bought plain plank-with-4-legs type of table and was more than happy with it.

But now I started to get into ergonomics, and think maybe I should give computer desks another chance, because everything is wrong in my current setup, monitor is too low, keyboard is too high, and not enough storage space.

 No.40616

I don't know why so many in this thread are deriding you, OP, other than to enforce a fog of elitism because "their views of cyberpunk is more correct than yours". That said, I don't recommend anything from IKEA. In my own style, I would buy things that are wiry and low and easy to retract, expand, store, and low to the ground. Nothing wooden.

They contradict themselves multiple times.

Their 'hypothesis' is not stringent, their understanding of the topic marginal at best.

They admit that they're using this to make people aware of human trafficking and prostitution.

I'd suggest not arguing with them or giving them a platform because any criticism will lead to opposition being labeled as mysogynst virgins and further their cause.

Not really, the market for prostitution its huge the problem is its derezzed in most places for either bullshit morals or bullshit politics (feminazism) but the demand its there and its big

Of course not everybody can afford a 10/10 call girl which is why those girls can easily make $10,000 a day, or even in a single session if they manage to suck and fuck their way into big clients in events like davos (tho in those cases there is a high chance of rape and disappearing with nobody giving a fuck because billionaire, but you don't see feminazis bitching about that because those guys also bankroll shit like femen)

Point is fembots are going to be the end of the gravy train for a lot of dumb cunts out there, first models are going to be expensive as a BMW so it wont be sad losers who get them but the kind of guys who would rather spend that brouzouf to get a replica of scarlett johanson to suck their dicks 24/7 until her servos break or the guy gets tired and wants a replica of selena gomez to fuck in the ass instead

And I can see a rich wife that would rather see her husband/meal ticket fucking a super advanced barbie than knocking up some dumb chick who will now get his money

>Abolish the core idea of the asymmetrical relationship in prostitution, and the desire to build sex robots will radically transform, or fall away.

Radically transformed seems more likely. Manufacturers of current generation sex dolls are heavily influenced by the industry of filmed porn, as opposed than Colin Christian inspired anime-esque sculptures that I would personally find more attractive.

I suspect sex bots will start taking in a variety of other cultural influences, once the sexbot industry picks up enough for manufacturers to ask themselves what other audiences they could be reaching for, or when startups can afford to customise premade robo-skeletons with their own art and behavior.

3 paragraphs of whining about my posts later and not actually presenting any information, you start throwing out actual ideas about home automation. Great! You'll be building it yourself, since IoT trends are clearly defined right now. Not that building your own smart thermostat wouldn't be awesome, but anything dependent on connectivity (especially the way you're describing it) is still going to be rendered useless the instant your core switch or your AP dies.

And while putting down your mountain dew and walking a few steps to adjust the temperature manually is super hard, I've managed thus far.

We at /tech/ are building a community on Retroshare. Download it here:

http://retroshare.sourceforge.net/downloads.html

For those who don't know, Retroshare is a private file-sharing platform with social networking features on top (messenging, forums, channels, VoIP etc.). Network is friend-based, you may add friends on the /tech/ thread (https://8ch.net/tech/res/243323.html once you've installed the software, post your public key and add every other one). Traffic goes through several hoops so that everything is anonymized, and everything is of course encrypted. A file-sharing paradise.

There's also a thread on /netplus/ if you want to know more: https://8ch.net/netplus/res/6.html
