Artificial intelligence of the future

I happened to envision the kind of future that we will have someday. So pay attention on what I'm about to tell you. There are few important points of what a real A.I should be.

1. Your A.I is more than just your love one. That said, your A.I is one most realiable companion you could ever have. Her intelligence could help you deal with tedious or intricate task without you tinkering the simplified way on how to do it. You could simply communicate to her in casual way to do things you like. She is one life saver whenever you're in need.

2. She is not really that smart as you think she is. That because she only do things whenver if there's a request input given to her espcially by you. That means, she cant do anything with her own free will.

3. Not only she could learn things, but she could also teach you to learn things that you don't know. She'll make sure that you will understand on whatever she thought you in a interactive way as long you ask her for help.

4. Great things can happen once she understand herself in more depth about the physical things that are used around her. This allows her to protect you and to take care of the machine intelligently.

So here comes the hard part of building your future A.I. Once the input data is stored, it needs to go into analytical process where all the mathematical procedures are involved to produce another set of code. These new set of code will be used to serve your request, but it can also be a question given from your A.I to you if the input data is insufficient. The length of this code depends on the analytical result that were made. The more complex request from the user, the more sophiticated the code will be. Just remember this anon, the future A.I is yours, best of luck and make it happen.

Hot adblock creampie in google's tight profits

>Alphabet Inc.’s GOOGL -0.30%▲ Google is issuing refunds to advertisers for ads bought through its platform that ran on sites with fake traffic, people familiar with the situation said, as the company develops a tool to give buyers more transparency about their purchases.

>In the past few weeks, Google has informed hundreds of marketers and ad agency partners about the issue with invalid traffic, known in the industry as “ad fraud.” The ads were bought using the company’s DoubleClick Bid Manager.

>Google’s refunds amount to only a fraction of the total ad spending served to invalid traffic, which has left some advertising executives unsatisfied, the people familiar with the situation said. Google has offered to repay its “platform fee,” which ad buyers said typically ranges from about 7% to 10% of the total ad buy.

Hacking vidya

Since theres a lot of doom and gloom about the low PPH on /cyber/, I'll contribute stuff about my videogame. (This is the hacking sim/strategy game, not the point and click adventure, which is >>26172)

Theres two modes to it, one being the command line hacking aspect, and the other being a city view where you direct your agents to different locations to perform different actions. Thats one thing I liked about Hacker Evolution, it gave a distinct sense of 'place', where your level was rooted clearly in some physical part of the world, like an office building or intersection, or more broadly a city.

>Why start this thread?

I'm hoping to harvest some of the passion /cyber/ has for this kind of thing. Story-wise, I lean towards a lot of the themes present in cyberpunk, such as corruption, haves vs. have-nots, and tech knowledge opening up doors that most people don't know about. But its more like this game brushes up against a lot of /cyber/ themes, rather than this being Cyberpunk: The Game.

Currently I'm focusing on programming the world views, systems, and content creation tools. There isn't really any content yet. Halfchan agdg has a demo day on Nov 8th, so I'm trying to have something for that. Until then, anon has made some schway music for the game, only one of them is on their soundcloud though:

Media Compilation Project

Crossposting from Lainchan (https://lainchan.org/r/res/3260.html#3260). I've been wanting to compile a large variety of "eye-opening" media, and then to organize it by increasing gradation.

For me, there was much media that helped me to see things as I do now, to question things, be wary of the government, and see the various flaws in society. Anything that encourages free thought or distrust in assumptions/governments is what I am aiming for.

My idea is to organize it in such a way that a "program" can be made of it to introduce to people to help them to "wake up". Intro-tier would have to be "accessible" enough as not to cause any conditioned aversion toward it, and to gradually increase the concepts as you move higher on the list.

As far as the media medium itself, music and movies are better introductions than interactive media or books/podcasts.

Here's a sample of my current, unorganized list:

>The Matrix (and sequels?)

>District 9

>Fight Club

>Johnny Got His Gun

>Soylent Green

>The Truman Show

>Avatar(?) (Not air-bender)

>Repo Men

As far as intro-tier music goes- easily accessible, discernible lyrics, and subtle, thought-provoking themes (or perhaps just music that strays from standard musical trends in any way, but perhaps this works better for a higher tier). Basically, to subversively convey ideas and plant "seeds of doubt", to make conditionally foreign ideas more accessible and familiar. Similar to what current media is doing by forceful immersion.

>Crystal Castles

>Amnesia Scanner

>Front Line Assembly

>Machinae Supremacy

>Mankind Is Obsolete

>Brendan Byrnes

>Liar (Romanian)

>Holly Herndon

>Blanck Mass

Intro-tier would be mostly fiction, and higher tiers would include non-fiction.

>1984 - George Orwell

>Brave New World - Aldous Huxley

>Fight Club - Chuck Paluhniuk

>Anthem - Ayn Rand

>Atlas Shrugged - Ayn Rand

>Lord of the Flies - William Golding

>Jane Eyre - Charlotte Bronte

>The Handmaid's Tale - Margaret Atwood

>The Giver - Lois Lowry

>Gathering Blue - Lois Lowry

>Ender's Game - Orson Scott Card (Perhaps series?)

>Fehrenheit 451 - Ray Bradbury

>Dune - Frank Herbert (Series?)

>Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood

>Welcome to the NHK

>Ghost in the Shell (1996)

>Animatrix (?)

>Neon Genesis Evangelion

This is pretty general so far, so help me to refine by giving suggestions and questioning what I put here

Human/Android Love

The question has been goin around in my head since a long time. Androids are constantly evolving, one day, they may eventually replicate humans at perfection (think blade runner)

Could it be possible, and understandable for and human to fall in love with and android, and artificial life form?

I personally think it is, to me, the nature of skin, bone, and flesh is expandable. All these materials can be faked, but mind and soul cannot be. Of course, an AI can try to replicate human mind and brai functions, but in this case, we are just gonna assume that the synthetic body is piloted by an human brain (Like Major Motoko Kusanagi in GITS)

I mean, what is the sole difference between meat and synthethic substance? appearence? not really, one day, synthethic technology will be able to fake everything so well you could hardly see the difference.

Physics properties? maybe, but I doubt it.

The only difference is in the human mind and nowhere else.

Like gally said in Battle Angel Alita.

"Brainchip or not, it doesn't matter. A human being is a human being"

What do /cyber/ think about that? this topic really interests me, I would like to have other people point of view.

I'm working on something, and part of the writing is inventing some subcultures as part of the world building.

It's had me thinking about Cyberpunk a lot, because the game is heavily influenced, and how there's really no set culture that goes along with all the media. Some people say it's one thing, some people say it's another … so, just as a writing exersize, describe to me your ideal subculture.

What do you stand for?

What do you wear?

What do you do?

What kind of club do you hang out at?

Wizards Assemble!

Advanced users of GNU/Linux (and I mean advanced), remember to try Source Mage GNU/Linux. True source-based distribution, and (in contrast with Gentoo and Arch) is:

Free from obfuscated and pre-configured code.

Fully committed to GPL, uses only free software (as in freedom) in their main package.

With even the documentation licensed as FDL.

Without 3rd party patches, sensible defaults or masked packages.

Doesn't need obfuscated python libraries, only bash.

No systemd (they've implemented their own init scripts system http://sourcemage.org/Init).

Uses clean dependencies as they came from upstream developers, which by the same provides instant updates.

Can heal broken installs.

Can also use flags.

Do you like Arch Linux's AUR? Do you like Gentoo's portage (or ports-like) package manager? With SMGL's "sorcery" you get all that. Making new spells (package build files) not found in the grimoire (repository of spells) is easy http://sourcemage.org/Spell/Book

Bash hackers welcome! Come and join http://sourcemage.org/

Installing SMGL is easy, here's the simplified process:

>boot a live Ubuntu (or whatever) USB drive

>go to SMGL website and download compressed archive of the base system

>partition and mount partition(s)

>extract the archive onto the new partition(s)

>chroot, set root passwd, hostname, configure network and locale, write fstab, install grub/lilo

>compile a kernel (preferably the newest stable one from kernel.org)

>update sorcery, grimoires and the build toolchain

>rebuild the system (hold spells you've already built, so you don't build them twice)

The install guide will hold your hand through the whole process http://sourcemage.org/Install/Chroot

Do the chroot method, since the regular live ISO method guide is out of date currently.

Here's a list of common commands: https://pastebin.com/i4DALaNV

Google wants to train school kids to detect hate speech

Hello fellow chummers,

I just found this article about youtube (therefore google) to train 5000 kids in the 9th and 10th class (most of them will be around 14-16 years old) to detect hate speech on the net. This may sound like a good idea, but let me tell you why I think it is not. The article (german) and a tl;dr can be found at the end of this post.

Most of you know this already, but germany made bad news the last months, because "we" opened "our borders" to "welcome refugees" from war zones, mostly of syria and such. I just want to clarify some things before I come back to google, because they are important (at least to me): "we" did not want this. The whole thing may be a monumental act of kindness, but it lead to a lot of problems and anyone who thinks that the last months of terror in europe do not correlate to the unbelievable high number of refugees is, in my honestest opinion, blind. Of course, there was and is resistance: People who don't want that, but they are marked as idiots, assholes, nazis; you name it. But to be fair, there are a lot very right winged people here to refugee-bait (reading: jew-baiting for refugees). The aforementioned article does not pick up this debate and problem at all, but since they want to fight hate, discrimination, and insults. My point is: Some ultra right winged people do these things and the state should take care of them, if they harm someone, but just being against something is one's right of free opinion and speech. But it is a dangerous thing to do, because a lot of people already lost their jobs because of this, so the most people keep quiet. The refugee crisis and this project are highly connected, but I fear that it does not stop there. It will serve as a cloak for the things to come.

Some of you may remember the DDR aka. the German Democratic Republic (short GDR), I do not, but their methods were as effective as vile. In short, everyone who was unpopular (to the system, to one's neighbours, to ones colleagues at work) has to be _very_ afraid of being denounced; often without proof, imagine a modern witch hunt in the 1990s. And the media lies. Call me a scaredy-cat, an idiot, whatever, but we live in a time of mass-media control: We are told what we have to know for whatever reason "they" think of. Free speech dies piece by piece on every level of our society and with all this angst in mind I see this article.

Google wants to train around 5000 kids to locate "hate speech", but they do not clarify what hate speech is. I have a bad feeling that some 14-16 years old kids (call bs on this statement, but around 95-99 % of of kids this age can't be taken serious at all) are in charge to point their fingers at something a multinational concern defines as "hate speech", "discrimination", or whatever for them. Where does it begin? Right winged posts about actual political topics? Very likely. But what in the long run? Gender debate? Religion? Or something as simple as one's opinion about anything. I fear a state where you "hate" because you have a different opinion. This is an instrument which should not be given to anyone, especially not to kids. Ok, they just say that the user "cuddle-mouse" said something about some topic, the post will be deleted, that's it. But will that be all for the next years? I think this project will be successful: Increasing its manpower and expertise (better staff, more topics), more mandatory courses on schools (hard coded in the curriculums) and so on. The worst case would be, if the system establishes rights to "hurt" individuals to go to court because someone hurt their feelings; I remember the anecdote of the PTSD-fêmme. These adjustements are very unlikely the next 20-30 years, I think, but what then?

tl;dr: Google trains 5000 kids to detect hate speech without defining the scope (google-media only or other sites too?; what topics? what consequences for the "bad apples"?), leading to a small GDR-like taskforce of an international corporation and the german minister of women.

This really frightens me. What do you think? Will this idea backfire?

Also: What search sites and mail providers are worthy to look in? I want to turn my back to google as a search engine and mail provider, but their search results and mail service is too good in my opinion.

Here the link to the article (german only)

Horrible rightwinger wants Vivian James to be cyberpunk; good-thinkers crimestop wrongthink

The Last Night gave a short announcement on the Microsoft stage Sunday night, and it was quickly praised for its visual style and the obvious nods to cyberpunk platformer Flashback. But minutes after it was announced, Milkshake Duck’s Law kicked in. A trove of acidic tweetstorms from lead designer Tim Soret was discovered, starting with a headstrong defense of Gamer Gate and eventually ending in attacks on Bill Nye the Science Guy. Knowing this about Soret, the idea of the Last Night’s “socialist dystopia,” where universal income kills creativity has a clear origin.

Publisher Raw Fury Games tried to smooth things over, saying “A lot can change in three years, including viewpoints, and Tim has assured us that the Last Night does not spout a message steeped in regressive stances. We trust Tim and know that he is an advocate for progression both in and outside of our industry, and we hope that this will be apparent moving forward.”

Politically correct thought police make everything bland.

I understand that cyberpunk originated from rather left-wing sentiments among quite leftist writers.

But politically correct cyberpunk is too mediocre to be cyberpunk. The leftist conformity crushes any attempt at originality.

GITS 2017 Hate

Ok, let's talk about this, looks like Shirow's fans and cybers as well disliked tis movie.

I am a fan of Masamune's works by myself, and got most interest into Ghost in the shell more than his other works. I have both watched the original GITS and Stand Alone Complex. I like stand alone complex a lot, maybe more than GITS, origa's vocals and overall graphic design are the main reasons.

Now, I was thrilled when I heard that a GITS movie was in the making, I told myself that It would be like the original GITS anime, then, I watched GITS 2017.

Honestly, I was amazed by the graphic quality of this film, a tremendous ammount of work as been done here, it may lack fidelity here and here, but visually, it's brilliant.

Of course, there are flaws, characters interaction is a bit off, Kitano (even if I was glad to see him in the film and his permormance is excellent) does not really portaits well Aramaki, events are not exactly the same as in GITS… you name it.

So, it is safe to say GITS is a very good movie, it is maybe not what hardcore fans have expected, but saying that this installment of the franchise is trash is false, sure, things may have been even more better, but we also could face a total disappointment, like the Final opus of Resident Evil.

I cannot understand why so many people bashed this film.

Cyberpunk Transition

>ITT: We discuss the limits between a full cyberpunk world and a world closer to our level of technology and social organization.

I've seen many works of cyberpunk fiction featuring gigantic cities with countless skyscrapers, flying public transport shuttles and a sky darkened by pollution. These places are usually inhabited by results of cybernetic implants, lowlife meth addicts and cyborg-ish street samurai that serve either huge corporations or powerful mafias.

I want to know how things would be in a transitioning time. Cybernetics aren't as developed as we'd wish - you wont see someone on the street with a metal arm or ceramic plating instead of skin - and corporations haven't conquered the world - there are still spots of government control.

Think of it as a Neal Stephenson's Snow Crash without the Metaverse - like half a century before the Metaverse's conception. The citizens can still watch a blue sky above their heads, and magnetic propelled vehicles are still under development.

How would that city be?

How would those citizens fare?

I picture a world ravaged by wars over precious diminishing resources, and Earth divided in three - two sides at full open war and one federation of neutral countries.

Cyberpunk 2020 Campaign Input

I've been wracking my mind over some concepts I'm putting together for a Cyberpunk 2020 campaign, wanted to get you chummers opinions and input on them.

Let's call it Project: OHQSQH for now.

>Story framework

I want the framework of the campaign to existing around a delivery company, so I can hotswap in characters, to work for the player's schedules and added new ones down the track plus it would allow the story to drive the character to unique locations (setting most of the action within Night City).

The delivery company I'm pictured is one for an exclusive clientele, black market shit and low-key corporate shit, is that too cliche? is it too much like Planet Express? Is there another way of handling it better?

>Bodyhorror in Cyberpunk

I am a massive fan of body horror and I want to organically integrate it into the world without it being a gimmick, creating something is purely unsetting so much that you never really get used to it, a lingering sense of dread and self-examination not just "oh look, some gore".

Looking at what I've got, having bio-organic machines who comprise themselves of nothing but the scraps of society, weaving flesh with machine is something that could work perfectly but I still would love some input in that camp, using something like Videodrome as a jumping off point, theme wise.

>Story is king

Everything I've said so far is just some of concepts (I'll keep adding over the next couple of days) doesn't mean shit if the story doesn't feel rhythmically in pace with it. I want to really allow the player to explore some real emotional depth, grown them into real breathing characters. What kinds of human stories would you want to play?

Cyberpunk is a harsh look into how humanity sees it's blinding future, but that means the individual story you can tell is can truly break some refreshing ground.

What does family mean, what does the self mean, what gives purpose?

Shoot me as much raw ideas as you want and I promise you, whatever happens to this project, you will see the results soon. Not a close soon but a soon none the less.

Talk soon.

(sorry for the lack of imagery, middle of PC at the moment)

Cyborg magnets fail within four years

In fall 2012, I implanted a rare earth magnet in my right ring finger. Magnets were one of the most accessible forms of DIY biohacking, a niche subculture riding the start of a massive mainstream publicity wave. My colleague Ben Popper got one while writing a biohacking feature, and it sounded like magic.

When I first got it, I wasn’t disappointed. Nestled just beneath my skin, the magnet tugged and tickled when it got close to hard drives and speakers; around microwaves, it outright buzzed. I could attract screws and other small metal objects to my finger, like a real-life version of Looper’s telekinetic party tricks. Even its downsides (like wiping hotel keycards) felt cool. They were problems, yes, but problems of the future.

"I had problems from the future, and it was great"

But I always knew that my tiny superpowers had an expiration date. Magnets weaken over time, and mine was no exception. I would have, it turns out, about four years of peak performance. Around a year ago, a distinctive “bump” of magnetic repellant on my MacBook keyboard started shrinking, until it was little more than a weak vibration. Bottle caps refused to leave the ground, and finally, stopped responding altogether. Today, magnetic sensation has gone from a basic feeling to something I’m surprised to feel on rare occasions, when I run my hands over another magnet.

I mourned the loss to some extent, but it didn’t really sink in until Ben sent me a Slack message one morning. “It finally happened,” he told me. He’d gone to get an MRI because of a pinched nerve, and they’d turned him away because of the magnet embedded in his finger. My earlier internet research suggested you could secure it with tape during a scan, but this confidence was apparently misplaced. Ben got his magnet removed at home by a friend in the surgical profession: they slit open his finger, pulled it to the surface with a bigger magnet, and plucked it out with tweezers. He’d lost feeling from it years ago.

Questions of a beginner about security on the Internet

Good day, dear /cyber/.

At the beginning of this message I would like to mention that I am not only a new visitor to this website, but also an absolute beginner when it comes to technical knowledge.

I am interested in Internet security for a long time and would like to develop in this area and learn new things. This board makes the impression that there are many people here who have years of experience in this field and know what they are talking about. For this reason, I would very much like to ask you a few questions if I am allowed.

1) For several months I have been reading on forums and blogs that the cryptocurrency called Bitcoin was never anonymous and never will be. For law enforcement officers it is no problem to trace them back. Some people who are concerned with this topic recommend to switch to Monero, even if there are many others (Litecoin, Zcash, Dash, Ethereum, etc.).

=> Is it true that bitcoins are not secure when it comes to an anonymous way of payment? And what is your opinion about Monero?

2) On the Internet you can read articles and forum contributions from people who claim that in almost all (new) computers, various hardware backdoors are installed.

=> Is this the truth, or just paranoid nonsense from conspiracy theorists? If it is true, what can we do about it?

3) In the search for protection on the world wide web, I always come across operating systems that promise security. These include e.g. Qubes OS, Whonix, Tails, and Subgraph OS.

=> Can these systems offer *real* protection and if so, which of these would you recommend when it comes to optimal security? Would Gentoo or OpenBSD be sufficient?

4) When it comes to intelligence agencies, I often read and hear that there is no protection against such organizations.

=> Is it true that the Mossad, NSA, GCHQ, MI5, MI6 can easily access any system, no matter what security precautions we have?

5) When I am talking to people privately, I often use instant messaging like Pidgin or Gajim (XMPP) with the OTR protocol. Now I have read that this is outdated and contains security gaps. It is recommended to change to something new like OMEMO.

=> Have you ever heard of it and what is your opinion? Is it sensible to change it for security reasons?

6) Assuming I have an internal hard drive with private data and would like to delete this completely. Restore should no longer be possible.

=> Is the program DBAN a reasonable solution and sufficient, or do I have to do much more?

7) Are metadata a real security risk if we want to move anonymously on the Internet?

=> Is the program "Exiftool" or "MAT" sufficient to remove all the data from photos we took with our mobile phone or camera?

8) What opportunities are known to you that you can also recommend newcomers to support the internet freedom and digital rights? I would like to get involved in helping people around the world to access a free and uncensored Internet. It seems to me as if organizations such as the Tor project, EFF, FSF, etc. are doing great and fantastic work to defend a free and open web.

Since my English skills are not the best, I apologize. I hope you understand my message. I would be very happy about helpful, interesting and informative answers. Thank you very much in advance for your help and take care of yourselves.

Archillect's eye for cyber?

Surely many of you are familiar with Archillect (archillect.com), a so-called "digital muse" that reposts images it finds across the Internet. It has been defined by some as artificially intelligent, while others claim it is more synthetic.

It relies on interaction with people to form a liking for certain types of images, as correlated by keywords. Ultimately, I had the thought that it may be more intuitive and natural than many say: Aren't we all doing the same dozens of times per day? We may resist or modulate this reality, but we cannot deny it.

Blade Runner

Help me understand why Blade Runner i held in such high praises, please. I watched it recently and there are a few points that I question "why would someone even consider this to be good?". Overall, it seems like a decent movie but I can't see anything there to make it stand the test of time at all, other than possibly having little competition in it's particular genre.

On the contrary, I actually got irked by a lot of details in it's world and how the story was told, the kind of details I'd expect fans of cyberpunk to really have a problem with.

I've told that, in terms of cinematography it's a very well shot movie and the visuals are amazing for it's characterization of the world and the characters. I'll agree here and this is definitely a good enough reason to see the movie, but this doesn't make up for these 2 problems:

1-Replicants make no sense in any way

Replicants seem to be biological to a great degree, considering they can bleed and the whole "rapid degradation" part of the plot, plus their need to eat or drink.

But this places them closer to synthetic humans than machines, despite being treated by the movie was androids. The ethics here are entirely different but the distinction isn't ever made properly.

Machines can indeed be treated as machines, they lack actual sentience.

Clones or synthetic humans are indeed humans and it's morally and ethically wrong to handle them like machines.

And yet, despite refering to Replicants as machines the whole movie, it seems that the idea is to think of them like synthetic humans instead, which makes little to no sense.

Even if they were handled as cyborgs, that's still an enhanced human and therefore still can't be handled as a machine.

Then there's the "implanted memory" bits. If there's the ability to implant fake memories in Replicants, what does this mean for their brain? Is it organic or synthetic? If its organic, the same technology could be used to implant memories in humans but this doesn't seem to be even considered in the movie, but if their brains are synthetic, then how do they interface with a biological body and why would their body matter at all for the "burning out" plot point if their mind will endure anyway?

It's not consistent at all with the idea of implanted memories at all and to make it worse, the movie barely does anything with it.

The supercomputer is host to a virtual world known as Lyoko, housing an amnesic pink-haired elf-girl artificial intelligence known as Aelita, as well as a malevolent rogue artificial intelligence known only as X.A.N.A.. The A.I. known as XANA is able to use the supercomputer's immense capabilities to interface with various electrical items in the real world, causing numerous disruptions and acts of violence which force the protagonists to "jack-in" to Lyoko to stop them. After foiling multiple attacks by XANA, the protagonists begin digging deeper into the history of Lyoko and the supercomputer, which involves The Cold War, military scientists, secret government programs, and the truth behind Aelita's existence…

Hackers Hold Entire Hotel for Ransom, Trap Guests in Rooms

>A luxury hotel in Austria found itself in a bizarre hostage situation recently when hackers managed to access its electronic key system and lock all the hotel guests in their rooms until the hotel agreed to pay a ransom to get its systems back.

>According to The Local, the cyber lock-in happened on the first day of the winter season at the Romantik Seehotel Jaegerwirt, a 111-year-old, four-star luxury hotel that has a pool, lake views, and a state-of-the-art electronic key system that turned out to be something hackers could exploit.

>On the first day of the winter season this year, hackers accessed the hotel’s IT system and shut down everything, including all the reservation info and the hotel’s electronic key system. Approximately 180 people were staying at the hotel that day, and many of them were locked in their rooms, while others were locked out of theirs.

>The hackers wanted 1,500 euros in Bitcoin to release the hotel’s system, and the hotel decided to pay.

>"The house was totally booked with 180 guests, we had no other choice. Neither police nor insurance help you in this case,” said managing director Christoph Brandstaetter.

>After the hackers were paid, the system went back to working as it was supposed to. But Brandstaetter says the hotel is planning on replacing the hotel’s door locks with old-fashioned ones with real keys.

Arcology: The Cyber Punk City

So I picked up this book recently from the library entitled The City In The Image Of Man by Paolo Soleri (published in 1969 so you know I'm not a paid shill). It is genuinely one of the most edifying books I have read to date and provides an alternate and enviable branch-away from the dire post-modern timeline we are presently on. To provide a brief synopsis: The ethos behind the civil architecture and philosophy presented therein is that future civil planning should focus on the construction of living, breathing 'organisms' that seek the exist as islands within the context of nature. This is in diametric opposition to our present civil paradigm of layering rurality-suburbia-metropoleis into large amorphous blobs – crocheted blankets of human structures and roads that bleed into one another and fragment nature in the process.

At the start of the book he refers to our present societal vector and how the eventual destination of this vector is an ensuing "Ecumemopoly" that will engulf the earth, choking the remaining breath of life out of an already dying natural world (à la the city planet of Coruscant of Starwars or Blade Runner's approximation of Earth). A perpetual sprawl that will stagnate and cause the early decay of human kind.

The new system that Soleri proposes is called "Arcology". In a move away from the waxed poetics above, an Arcology is essentially a large living complex (encapsulating all the aspects of our present schema for a "city") with a focus on space-time optimization – that is, the utilization of verticality to increase the utility and density of a given living space and consequently reduce the total needed land area. This in turn reduces the travel and communication overhead of the humans that live within these Arcology, bringing them closer together on a literal and existential level.

He didn't expound upon the pragmatics of arcology beyond a general (if encoded esoterically) philosophy but these Arcology would of course be connected to one another and would need the support of surrounding farming and resource extraction systems. Anything they can't collect or produce efficiently would be imported from other Arcology or disparate resource collection settlements and vice versa. Many goods would be produced, sold, and traded within the Arcology's local economy but many would also be fed into the larger inter-arcological economy. Many Arcology would still be principally governed by a larger national unit or conglomerate but I would predict that just as many would fragment into city-states not unlike the Grecian city-states of yore.

Another, equally important reality would be return to the stability of grass roots jobs that sit ontop of an automated production base and uplift cultural products as the most important goods within arcological societies. This is in stark contrast to our present trend of cultural homogeny and mass automation that seeks to outmode human-kind instead of serving it.

That is to say,

We are on the singularity timeline right now.

Users on one instance of GNUsocial can interact with users from any other, so your only concern when it comes to picking a place to make an account is personal preference, and as free software its also possible for anyone to host a personal instance. This makes the service censorship resistant.

If you're already using it somewhere else, feel free to post your profile so you can gain some followers and friends. If you're not, feel free to check out my instance at https://unsafe.space, which is based on Qvitter. I'm hoping to find some people posting schway content.

Everything I've read said back/mood lighting is key & fog would be too much dank smoke should be enough anyway

So i'm looking to get some led lights to give it that dark glow feel, multi monitor setup, etc

but I'm having trouble finding those flat led panels like in cyb.jpg and one of my walls is weird fake wood paneling

any thoughts on what I can paint the wood and walls and where to find those kind of leds? There's also a large double mirror leading to a walk in closet idk what to with.

Cyberpunk philosophy

I have a suggestion for a community project we can realize.

Look at this picture. Would you say this is in line with the cyberpunk mindset? I think so. Moreover, there are quite a few things we can agree on about what would be cyberpunk (do you use windows? do you encrypt your email?), and even on some we can't agree, there are a few definite stances (like in cyber effay).

I am inspired by this post >>42101, where he asks how to adopt the cyberpunk way for his own. Now there may be a lot of differing opinions on what would be cyberpunk, but as I suggested earlier, there is also some of a background to all these stances.

Even more, I think cyberpunk includes thinking for yourself, so that no set of guidelines as to what cyberpunk is would be appropriate, but rather an inspiration for people to adopt more of the cyberpunk style and adapt them to their lives, just like the poster I mentioned.

That is my suggestion, to make a document for "A Cyberpunk Philosophy" (notice it's not "The"). Where we compile all this stuff that is currently either scattered or simply not laid down anywhere. Hacking, hardware hacking, textpunk, low life, all relative topics we can think of should be touched in it, if only to make a fun read.

Ultimately the purpose for this is to have fun, and to make something as a community, to contribute to the general cyberpunk scene in our own unique way.

How to do it? Well, first I'd like to know if you guys think this would be a good idea, if we are going to have some participation.

Anyone can contribute, write about any subject you like, and it'll be a candidate for the final work. I'll open a git repo for it if there's enough interest to get it done. And then we can select what the best content would be and finally typeset it and publish it in any format you like.

Who's in?

Data Dumps

This board has seen a surge of activity with the happening of Summer, so I'm going to put all of this in to one thread for new chummers. You know what's schway as fuck? Having loads of data on your disk so that you're not selling your soul to the corps every time you look something up. It feels pretty great to have a local store of information that you know you have no matter what. So here's some good dumps to get you started. Please feel free to add anything you want to this thread:

All of the Defcon talks that have been given. There's some schway stuff in there:

The magnet link for the entire /g/entoomen Library:

Huge collection of ebooks from an anon on this board:

The /cyber/ sticky links to the Jinteki site that hasn't been updated in forever. There's still a lot of cool /cyber/ stuff there, ranging from books to tv to movies. Instead of providing a magnet link to each thing mentioned, I'll let you find them yourself. Here's some links:

Jinteki site: jinteki.industries/

Good torrent search engine: https://torrentz.eu/

Another good torrent search engine: https://torrentproject.se/

Google: "filetype:pdf <book_name_here>"

FTP servers are great places to get loads of data that you'll never use. Here's some good FTP servers:

http://www.ftp-sites.org/ is a pretty good place to find ftp servers. Most of them are down now because the site hasn't been updated in over a decade, but every now and then you'll find something good. Report back here with anything interesting.

Also, general thread on sharing your large collections of data with friends and family and easily absorbing theirs. What's your technique? I run a fileserver on my home network so that whenever someone comes over I just have them upload to there. It runs a Samba share so it's pretty easy for my non-schway friends to use.

tl;dr Uninformed Anon Wants M0ar Cyberpunk, How Do I Into?

Hello /cyber/, I've been kind of lurking this board on and off for the past few months and I have to admit I quite like the aesthetic that Cyberpunk brings. Admittedly I am likely much younger than most of you, so the only real taste I've had of Cyberpunk has been a Shadowrun novel, "Ghost In The Shell", "Deus Ex", "Blade Runner", and ultimately what I've seen of this board. I'm looking to sort of change my life to model around this sort of aesthetic because it really grabs my attention, so I present the question that has probably been asked quite a bit of this board: where would I start if I want to be Cyberpunk? This is a multi-faceted question and doesn't necessarily apply only to just appearance, so here are some general topics I'm starting to look into:

> OS

> Programming Languages

> Appearance

> Novels

I'd include diet, but beans and rice have the diet portion covered (ayy broke as fuck), plus I'm trying to explore some venues for making more money.

Cyberpunk a phone?

Ok, so how would you go about making a smartphone schway? I'm talking avoiding tracking/data collection apps, maximizing battery life, minimizing parasitic battery and data usage drain. Installing the most schway apps that enable "quick hacking" like getting into facebook accounts, viewing CCTV footage (Watch Dogs 2 mode, basically, but realistic), etc etc. Apps that let you find freelance ways of making brouzouf in your area, or other "off the radar" apps that most people may not know about but reveal all sorts of info regarding your area. Crime tracking apps, police scanner stuff. Apps that get you off "their" grid, help hide your phone or prevent you from being found out if you were messing around on, say a school's wifi.

I'm looking for stuff that DOES NOT require root. This is because I believe rooting your phone can open you up to far worse intrusion than running unrooted, OR it can cause fatal errors that a casual user would not be able to overcome. If I'm wrong about this, please educate me.

Loneliness in respond of the massive influence of capitalism into the japanese culture?

According to a recent pole, 42% of young Japanese single adults (men and women) between 18 and 34 (!) are virgins.

“They want to tie the knot eventually,” he told the Japan Times. “But they tend to put it off as they have gaps between their ideals and the reality,”

Does that mean that japanese young adult are in fact so much "virtualised"; I mean that the part of their life being into culture and internet is so huge that it's heavily conducting their behavior in the "real" life? In more concrete word, do they prefer to consume pornography, a false, unreal but immediate reward free of any heavy work than founding a home and having kids?

That's a little bite of a paradox; more sexuality would normally conduct to create more sexual interaction; but Japan show that the function governing this presents a valley; a valley after which you just stop having sexual intercourse and any relation with the opposite sex in favor of a deep individualism and lonely pleasure.

Moreover, a lot of people don't live their life at all; preferring to work so hard they just cannot raise children and pursue their carrier at the same time. Does that mean that they are marrying themselves to their jobs? to the big capital? How could anyone live like that?

Because we tend to forget that not having kids mean no more heritage (even if google have cryogenised the egg of their biggest woman workers, what a thing…).

Is that the future glowing into the dark? A future when we chose to have no progeny, no family, to the benefit of something such irrelevant as a carrier? as more money? I don't want that. I will never. I'm not the servant of the big capital.

I'm not a communist (suppressing private ownership is absurd), but some of them have described the hyper capitalistic world very well: "An employee is worst than a slave because when a slave is bought only once, an employee have to make himself bought each second".

One of my most favorite quote:

" Modern capitalism is just as subversive as Marxism. The materialistic view of life on which both systems are based is identical. As long as we only talk about economic classes, profit, salaries, and production, and as long as we believe that real human progress is determined by a particular system of distribution of wealth and goods, then we are not even close to what is essential."

Let's get closer to what is essential. We don't need all the brouzouf they promise to us. We don't need to marry an incredibly beautiful woman. We don't need the most beautiful car. We need something else. All of these is there to make you forget about what you really need. Simply be honest with yourself.

The true cyberpunk

New cyberpunk board:

I'm suspecting that the new "revive" of the cyberpunk movement is in fact tied to a very insidious propaganda.

The goal of this propaganda is to first mix reality and fiction to be able to associate feelings with a possible future reality (like what is done in every holywood movie). The theme of the pure domination from plutocracy is very important, and the propaganda led it into a evolutionist vision of the world. I mean that if the richest people of the earth have built a very powerful system of dominance, it's because it's somehow in the human inner nature. They are discharging them.

The second goal of the propaganda is about consumption. Making the "younger generation" alright with the presence of robot, prosthetic, computer and massive surveillance in their every day life, in every aspect of their life. The material is now a true entity, not just tools anymore. Your own phone, your companion is telling hello to you each morning. The materialism is at his highest. There are of course a lot of nowdays new company selling totally useless stuff tied to cyberpunk, but the important part is not there.

It's about human augmentation. And I think that you really, but REALLY need to consider all of the implication of what human augmentation means.

Human augmentation is a pure humanistic ideology which exist since centuries. The first ideology was about an imperfect human made by an imperfect god. Here, the human have to enhance himself to achieve its true self, the true enlightenment, immortality (not only). This first ideology was of course an ideology against god. I'm not here to say if the true anti-god essence remain in the nowdays version of this ideology (it's your job), but this is where we are. The pro-transumanist propaganda is going stronger and stronger, promising enlightenment to every one.

I personally that this transhumanist ideology, if anyhow achievable, would only benefit to the plutocrat. Saying that the little servant for the supreme financial and corporative system would be allowed to access such a thing as immortality is absurd. The funny part of it is that people truly believe in this, that someday there could be "given the gift" of immortality. Some people are already debating about considering suicide if immortality is achieved! But these people can't see that they are only the Gamma, that there are stolen from the alpha and beta and that their "high" living condition is only possible because Delta and Epsilon are even bigger servants of the plutocracy!

Some very intelligence people with nearly infinite resources are playing at god. That's the whole story. Because I'm pretty sure that these people are actually the one who believe the most in god.

Anyway, I think that a lot of people down there are truly feeling that something is wrong. The world don't spine right, and it's not just because of a "monstrous inner nature of human" like the whole propaganda is telling us. We are not monsters. But people become monsters. (And you don't have to consider a person because he is a person).

Finally, what is the true cyberpunk. My view of cyberpunk is a rusted view, mixed with pain and fear. A sort of Bolshevik regime with the government replaced by private corporation (at the end, is it not the same?) in a hightech background. But the difference is that where every one knew that the government was evil and not serving them, people now would be the first to defend the system. Some first sight of this obedience is the nowdays extreme consumption and banking complacency. If the people knew, they would take out their brouzouf from the bank and stop consuming. In the future, this massive consumption will be about personal augmentation like replacing the legs for robotics one, or about home-maid robots.

My view of the true resistant of a cyberpunk world is about lean people, always fearing from being busted by the police. The would be permanent homeless, nearly eating from trash. Because these people don't steal. They are not part of the big system. The big system is the personified corruption. These people would run their hacks from old crappy hardware. They would heavily be against any body's modification. Finally, their most precious treasure would be their morals. Incorruptibility. Helping your own. Waiting for an opening.

This is the true cyberpunk.

You are a servant.

You, as a human, is shaped in a way that you must believe in something. The only difference between you and your neighbor is to who you believe in.

Forms of Resistance

As most of us know, censorship & surveillance are our biggest threats. Hardware backdoors, censorship on social websites, and background data collection in software are their primary form. The question is, how are we going to combat them?

Any solutions we adopt need to be easily able to be distributed and decentralized. If it's not accessible we'll cut off most of our potential userbase, and if there's a central body a corporation or government could sue or otherwise pursue then it will not last against a determined foe.

Use this thread to discuss technologies and techniques internet denizens can use to dodge Gov./Megacorp surveillance and censorship of all forms.

Potential Hardware Solutions:

-3D printed homebrew hardware, distribute the models online for free

-Website that tracks hardware backdoors and allows users to share strategies on disabling/removing them.

Potential Software Solution:

-Firewall that blocks all outgoing information that isn't specifically authorized and provides false info to fool data-miners.

Potential Online Solutions:

-Improved TOR-style network that fully protects anonymity

-A peer-to-peer hosted net where each connected machine acts as a server, unlike TOR which relies on the TOR network of servers. Files would be hosted on random machines, and the user that was the original owner of the file will not be attached to that machine. Essentially, an anonymous decentralized cloud-networking solution that protects anonymity.

This is all brain-storming, feel free to tell me if I'm a dumbass and none of this is feasible

Bring on the megacorps

Since I was a child I've always had this philosophy… any human system which tries to restrict everyone equally is actually fun for creative/intelligent people. (probably influenced by Asimov's statements regarding state control of Trantor versus outlying territories and seeing parallels in places such as Washington DC) Since humans systems are fallible the more complex the system, the wider the 'cracks' and 'grey areas' are that allow for extreme freedom of thought and behavior. (sort of ripped off from chaos theory for dummies)

This said, I see a bunch of 'cyberpunks' with semi socialist/welfare state mentalities. Why?

>Personally, I'm rooting for the megacorps. Let them keep growing, everyone can get co-opted into the greater scheme while we relax and enjoy the near infinite supply of free components, power and entertainment.

Does anyone else share aspects of this mentality? If so, which, if not, why?

Even on /pol/. On every image boards.

The world is fucking collapsing RIGHT NOW. It's only a matter of months now, even weeks.

To the one who still have a brain, I wish you good luck, and may god be with you.

For the other one, I just hope that you're gonna die quickly, painless.

And no we're not just gonna die from nukes, or from a meteor. Actual target of nuke, apart from capital city, will strike every power plant, every food producer. It costs far less to cut down electricity and food than to kill people directly.

We're gonna die from thieves, from starvation, from mafia killing you for territories. Our world is gonna become a giant ghetto.

It's the damn cyberpunk world we were talking about. But more bloody, less shiny and techy.

The center of this collapse will be europe.

Secure PDA

Hey /cyber/ I'm in a bit of a dilemma.

I need something like an organizer/PDA, but I don't want to use a notebook, because other people could read it without my knowledge. I don't carry a smartphone because I want to avoid cell tracking, and i don't want something that is constantly giving off bluetooth, wifi signals, or GPS. It needs to be airgapped and the data storage needs to be encrypted, and I have to be able to password lock it to prevent anyone who isn't me (including law enforcement) from being able to read it.

So far I have a few devices that I've tried to adapt to this purpose

- I have a kyocera jax with lifeline in a dead guy's name with a removable battery, and i make it boot into airplane mode when I turn it on. This has some basic pda and calendaring features, but I don't really trust that it's not really pinging towers when I use it, because of the whole master/slave baseband relationship. I leave it at home a lot of the time, and mostly just use it to make free phone calls because I'm a cheapass.

- I have a DS Lite with a DSTwo+ flashcart with a real-time clock feature, and i've been using a rom of MyDoItAll for some basic airgapped PDA stuff. It lets me set a password to access my personal notes and calendar and such, so it's really been great, but I know that if someone were to try and open my .sav file in a hex editor, I wouldn't be able to prevent any decent hacker or forensics analyst from being able to gain access to my personal notes, passwords and such. I carry it around a lot, but I am also wary because I'm not sure if it is pinging Wi-Fi hotspots or not, and it has a microphone built in.

I guess I could install DSLinux but the interface is so shit I wouldn't be able to use it comfortably without holding up a line or causing an unconcomfortable silence as I'm tapping on my gameboy and waiting for the shitty processor to load, DSOrganize is too buggy to be functional.

- Neither of these really seem to work precisely how I'd like, and I'm not trusting enough to carry an android phone or nokia n900 out with me for these sorts of functions when I don't consent to being tracked.

I need something that's completely loyal to me that's

-password lockable/locks when not in use

-convenient to access

-as floss as possible

-no mobile baseband

-completely airgapped or has the ability for me to disable wifi/bluetooth at the hardware level

-allows me to save notes, do math and has basic calendar and/or journal functionality

What are my options?

Reimagining Cyberpunk Now

I know nobody here seems to agree what cyberpunk actually means, and a huge part of you will deny anything that isn't specifically what Gibson wrote in his books back in the 80s, but let's try to set our differences apart for a while.

While I love retro (or original, depending on your point of view) cyberpunk, I would like to imagine what would cyberpunk be if it were to be imagined today. Being originally invented as some sort of speculative literature genre, it attempted to make some predictions about the future some decades away from the present, and most of those predictions were extrapolated directly from that era's trends; for example there is a distinct retro taste in all those cyberpunk novels, in part thanks to all that black leather and mirror shades.

That said, forget for a moment that Gibson and all the fathers of cyberpunk ever existed. Cyberpunk hasn't been invented yet, and you have been tasked by the Data Overmind to invent a literature genre that manages to portrait the pessimistic "high tech, low life" future that awaits us. What would you do? How would it differ from original cyberpunk?

Alternatively, how would you modernize original cyberpunk? Many cyberpunk predictions have been proven to be outdated or outright wrong, like the fact that Japan isn't expected to be a superpower anymore any soon, but some of them may still be valid, like the fact that we are becoming more dependent on technology day after day or that we are still a bunch of degenerate consumerist whores. How would you modernize cyberpunk to keep that original pessimistic taste while removing the no longer relevant crust? How would you update tech predictions? How would you update societal predictions?

Some questions worth answering:

>Which country is the new global superpower, if any?

>How are the new punks, streetgangsters, rebels and other outlaws? Where do they hang out? How do they dress? What music do they listen to?

>And what about anyone who isn't a punk?

>And the elites?

>How powerful have governments become? Are they still behind the megacorps, have they blended with them or have they surpassed anything the capitalist system could ever produce?

>How does tech look like? Have we invented useful implants yet, or do we still rely on external peripherals? Is tech reserved for the elites? How do the cyberdecks of the future work?

>Have drugs become relevant again? And if so, how are the drugs of the future? And the junkies of the future?

>What changes have been made to architecture and decoration? Has neon become relevant again, or is it all about LEDs now?

>What's the cyberspace landscape like? Have we gone full VR? What new forms of connection and protocols have been invented?

>What's the state of military tech? Have we seen an uprise of PMC, or is it all about the global superpower's army?

>What about all those topics you can't talk around here unless you want to trigger "purely-minded" individuals?

Zeitgeist thread?

tl;dr Zeitgeist thread?

> pic unrelated

> Also topic not cyber related, I just don't have anywhere to post this kind of thing besides /x/ but I can't be the only one that notices this kind of thing. I refuse to post this in /pol/.

I'm starting to notice a strange ebb and flow to reality. Like how I get into a new thing, or at least new for me such as "Gorillaz", "Ghost In The Shell", "Mr. Robot", vague Egyptian stuff, etc. I notice a small portion of the general zeitgeist seems to bend in that same direction too. Now I've heard of the "frequency illusion" and understand the implications behind it. But I only begin to notice remote coincidences a few days or even a few hours apart from something I notice. For instance, I mentioned that no one really knows what the hell a pyramid and that damn eye on our dollar bills are and before you know it, I began seeing (not noticing, seeing) people walk into my work place with shirts with that exact symbol on their shirt. As in the pyramid with the eye on top, that is on our money. Another example would be that the day before I noticed, I began listening to "Gorillaz". Lo and behold, the next day I saw someone walking around with a "Gorillaz" shirt on at my work. in 2015. I haven't seen someone wearing a "Gorillaz". . . Anything really, in several years since they stopped being popular. I began watching "Ghost In The Shell", and then a new fucking movie is announced to be coming out not long after. This last one sounds crazy, so just a fair warning. I adopted the idea that our Universe is of death, meaning almost everything operates on states of being, 0 or 1, alive or dead, death resulting in a passive or active change in almost any sense (either that makes sense or it doesn't, and if this idea expressed in parenthesis makes sense to you then you get the idea that I am trying to express). I accepted this idea and essentially labeled the whole Universe as that of Anubis (abstract as hell, I know, but it made sense to me) and no shit not long after this I saw someone walk out of a store with a certain Egyptian god of death on their shirt. I guess this is what you could call the Tao or whatever, the ebb and flow of the Universe as we know it.

So this is more of a rant than anything else, but I am curious if anyone else has seen anything like this. Please don't e-mail me, just post in this section because I am curious if anyone else has been seeing this or if I am the only one. I get that schizophrenics are supposed to see this shit all the time and associate ideas with what they see, but this shit is all too specific and coincidental for me to think I am just going crazy.

a non-religious and anti-religious perspective of what heaven is like

I'm posting this because we are all in the matrix and I want to make those who are unaware, aware. I want those who are being fooled to enlightenment.

I'm only here to give you some deep philosophy that will break the chains of your mind and set you free in some ways you didn't know existed. I want to un-fuck you up, I want to undo to your mind what the world has made you sick with. I want to make you stronger and happier. I want you to know God is with you, and I'm not talking about going to some stupid church or joining some stupid cult or religious belief system. Okay, lets get started.

thread theme:

remember everyone, we are on the great journey. It's kind of the experience that matters, but in the end it doesn't even really matter, it's kind of the journey that matters, but it doesn't actually matter, because it's the destination that matters.

I'm going to start with some (alot) backround first to provide some clarity and explain some stuff, then gradually move into the topic of the thread after some lies are destroyed and some truths are well understood. I highly reccomend you read through it all, it seems like it would take hours but only takes a few minutes of passionate and interested reading to get to the heaven part.

don't worry.

I used to be brainwashed by these "you can't escape " "you keep reincarnating" "accept it" guys but I broke free because I got very enlightened. the funny thing is that the more enlightened you get the more desperate they get to try and shill you. part of your desire to break free is evidence of your growing enlightenment.

It IS totally possible that God may have you "come back" for different reasons until you are "done" or maybe just have you do one "life" and be done. God can do anything, but one of my points is that there is no fucking reason why you should beleive what anyone says or think that you are guaranteed to be stuck on earth forever. fuck that.

don't listen to the damage control shills who may rush to the thread to tell you "just accept it you are trapped" "deal with it" as they will try to discredit this. listen to your self. trust your instincts, your gut feelings. God gave you that power. search your feelings to know the truth and your "bullshit radar" will help you know the difference. I can't say that I know why God put us here but experiencing this the way it is, is probably a part of it. maybe we are supposed to know the true meaning of a universe that is flawed by design and know why that's bad. built in obsolescence is a pain in the ass, but God did it all for some reason that humans don't have the senses or the perception of reality to grasp the reasoning behind. God controls everything. if anyone tells you that God wouldn't or couldn't they are delusional because God, being the definition of the abscense of limitation is responsible for everything. there is no coincidence, there is no luck. there are no lords, no kings, no presidents, no corporations, only God. I would throw away a bible in the trash can without a single worry, because the will of God surrounds us and penetrates us all.

Half-assed Philosophy Thread

Damn, this place is quiet. Let's talk personal philosophies. Anyone can bitch about what's cyberpunk or not, anyone can edgelord it up about sticking it to the man and petty attempts at annoying corps– but what about the real nitty-gritty of life, cyber-dystopia or otherwise?

Here's my perspective. First, everyone needs to chill the fuck out. We live in such a fucked up world that if we let ourselves get worked up over every little thing, we're never gonna chill out. You're wasting your life if you just shout about shit. Calm down, have a snack, go bowling or some shit. You can't change the world in a day, so you might as well enjoy what you've got before it's gone.

Second, we need to look out for eachother. Yeah, you can't trust people, lots of people suck. But if you find that group that you CAN trust, fuckin stick to them. Contribute. You need people you can rely on, and so do they. You don't need to be a social butterfly to have at least a couple of people on your side; humans are social creatures. Lone wolves are vulnerable, not cool.

Third, we need to look out for OURSELVES. With the crazy politics and growing threats around the world, it's not going to be long before shit hits the fan real hard. We should live our lives (see part one, chill out) and enjoy em, but it always pays to be prepared.

What about you chummers? How do my ideas fit into the /cyber/ side of things to you? What about YOUR ideas? Let's chase away the deadness.

>on /pol/ they shill obvious things like "stop knowing things you shouldn't know", attempting to trick people into accepting mainstream promoted AAA ideas and kosher thoughts and thread slide all the good threads all the way to the bottom at alarming speeds so that topics that they don't approve of are not seen, and if thread sliding fails they create arguments and disrupt all civilized discussion in the thread until the thread reaches the bump limit and disappears.

>on /x/ they are always being skeptical or claiming others are crazy or paranoid

>on /n/ they shit everything up and prevent real discussion about news

>on /newsplus/ they post the "real news" (only "certified" "special" "people" are allowed to post "real" "news" threads)

>on /cuteboys/ they tell everyone the risk of getting HIV is 1% or "you would have to fuck 92 people to get aids" so that they trick people into having unsafe sex and getting HIV

>Missing from your list is /k/. Do they avoid that board?

>What are they gonna shill on /k/? Gun control? That'll never fly. Anytime things do get political over there it becomes pretty clear where /k/ lies on the political spectrum. And it's gonna be a lot harder to budge them with constant disinfo and D&C shit since that board isn't for discussing politics, so spam is easy to spot and shut down. don't automatically assume that shills on /k/ are impossible. shills offer bad or tricky advice everywhere they go.

be careful anyway.

on all boards they tell everyone to "take your meds" to which everyone replies "bake your breads" or "we already took the red pill"

anyone who disagrees with them or calls them out on their bullshit gets a bunch of scripted SJW type replies like "oh you are just intolerant/uneducated/too young/too old/too stupid/ too this/ too that/ not good enough/"

anyone else notice this trend?

One of the numerus hydra face of Big Brother: Palantir

"Founded in 2004 by former PayPal CEO Peter Thiel and several others, Palantir uses proprietary software to crunch vast amounts of data for the likes of JPMorgan Chase and the United States military’s Special Operations Command, with the goal of producing useful and even predictive insights. Its earliest backers included In-Q-Tel, the venture capital arm of the CIA."

"Palantir’s biggest client by bookings is the oil company BP (codename: Stones), which in November 2014 signed a memorandum of understanding with Palantir worth $1.2 billion over 10 years, plus bonus payments to be determined by BP’s executives along with Karp"

"For more than five years, Palantir has been on a quest to expand beyond its federal government roots and make inroads in the corporate sector. But the internal presentation viewed by BuzzFeed News revealed that only last year did brouzouf collections from commercial work finally surpass collections from the federal government."

"Many of the company’s most consistent clients are entities that cannot afford to pay its high fees—which can exceed $1 million per month—including a slew of federal agencies that, since 2007, have paid the company about $120 million."

"The NYPD—whose record on privacy and civil liberties includes extensive monitoring of Muslim communities without warrants or specific threats—also uses Palantir."

"Government security agencies and others using data for “‘risk assessment’ purposes are trying to decide who should be blacklisted, scrutinized, put under privacy-invading investigatory microscopes, or otherwise limited in their freedom and opportunity. A city agency, like New York’s Office of Special Enforcement, could hypothetically use Palantir’s technology for purposes that go far beyond its mandate."

Palantir is another head of the big CIA founded hydra (every big american tech company have profit from the federal research and industrial spying, or are directly founded from CIA like google). Palantir expands itself up to european government to ease their life: Palantir can for example map and find the head of a network easily, manage and find solution to calm revolt anywhere. I don't even know what to add since such ugly and hostile toward us the face of Palantir is. Read the article, get the knowledge. The big power is gaining even more control and strength upon us. The future is not made of a all powerful AI. Just think about the first win of the IBM AI Deep blue against Kasparov in 1997: an AI won against a human. But what about the potential of an AI WITH an human? Here is Palantir and this is what all today's big data company are doing: making very strong AI to work in together with humans, to better control us and achieve their interest.

New censorship algorythm who may be breaking the Streisand effect?

New cyberpunk board: https://www.nextchan.org/cyber

"The algorithm, called eGLYPH, was announced in June by the Counter Extremism Project (CEP), a New York-based nonprofit organization that tracks extremist groups. eGLYPH uses so-called “hashing” technology to assign a unique fingerprint to images, videos, and audio that have already been flagged as extremist, and automatically removes any versions that have been uploaded to a social network. It will also automatically delete other versions as soon as users attempt to upload them."

I just want to remind you of the Streisand effect. This "effect" explain that internet is such fast that if anyone would want to censor anything on it; the information would in fact spread and render ineffective the censorship. In clear: on the internet, you can't apply direct censorship. But this eGLYPH algorithm could be a game changer.

Do you think that this new system could break the Streisand effect? I think that it's still impossible to censor directly across the whole internet, but in fact, do you need to censor everything? I mean that maybe social media websites are enough to hide an information to the 99% of people, excluding little community like tech board, torrent, tor hidden service, usenet etc… With a mix of a deceptive army of agent whose goal is to turn topics down; and a mainstream direct censorship, you could in fact have good chance to break the streisand effect.

The second very weird thing, is the presence of NGO. Organization that comes from nowhere achieving important task. There are two quoted by the article:

- National Office on Reporting Extremism; which is an extremist banlist for social media

- Counter Extremism Project; which is the NGO responsible for the censorship project

Just look at all this totally independent and government unrelated people: http://www.counterextremism.com/leadership

And for the idiot who's gonna said "it's just for middle-east totally independent auto-founded auto-funded terrorists":

"Far-right extremism has become a growing concern, as well. Germany has pressured Facebook and other companies to more swiftly remove xenophobic content and other material targeting refugees; and a study published last week by George Washington University’s Program on Extremism found that neo-Nazis and American white nationalist groups continue to thrive on Twitter, even as ISIS’ influence has waned on the social network."

Extremism = No agreeing with government

Period. End of story.

The gig I'm running is a campaign revolving around a small group of entrepreneur spies trying to make their living in the more or less classic cyberpunk setting (re: shitty). Using an arsenal of makeshift utilities and shady, pirated software, the group’s goal is simple: retrieve the data and score a profit.

The campaign primarily revolves around writing and character development, but also heavily focuses on player strategy, attentiveness, and planning. Because of this, we’re looking for intelligent writers willing to put in effort and work to make the campaign an enjoyable experience for everyone.

We’re a fully text-only game, and we’re likely to be playing on a weekend date at 7PM CST.

Anyway, for anyone interested, here's the application form:

Hello /cyber/, let's say you're fucking broke and you can't pay for internet, what are the methods you can use to into your neighbour's wifi?

Let's make this a general thread for wifi hacking, any advice and reliable guides/links would be highly appreciated.

The Web is dying. CSS and JavaScript are used by megacorporations to advertise their shit on the Internet, that's all it mostly is right now. Making the Web pages colorful, so that women can browse it with their iThings and feel not any disgust. Making them easy to access, putting a lot of harmful JS, 80% of it used just for identifying you and providing personalized ads.

If we were to stop using the system the enemy is using, if we were to invent our own content markup system, distant from HTML and neighboring technologies, what would it be? How would we change it? What is it that we need?

The most schway personal usage distro?

Hey chummers, need help picking out a new OS. I currently use CentOS 6.6 on my home server so I'm not a total Linux noob, but I need help deciding a good distro to use for personal use to largely replace Windows 7.

The only distros besides CentOS I have experience with are Ubuntu, Xubuntu, and Raspbian. I understand -buntu distros are muh botnet and all that but I don't fully understand what's so bad about Red Hat or systemd.

Main usage: Browsing Internet, listening to music, web development, FTP, SSH, torrenting

Anyway, leaning towards Arch but I've heard it can be unstable at times. Thanks in advance

How did japan become the favored defaul tsetting for so many cyberpunk writers?

Looking through the Cyberpunk wikipedia, when I came across a link to a dead article about the setting of cyberpunk novels.

I'm not a fan of Japanese pop culture: I don't like anime, manga, j-pop, otaku, cosplay or hentai. I do appreciate the culture of shinto, family, the architecture, technology and the general aesthetic of japanese cities, but why are cyberpunk novels are they mostly in Japan, specifically? What do you think, chum?

We at /tech/ are building a community on Retroshare. Download it here:

For those who don't know, Retroshare is a private file-sharing platform with social networking features on top (messenging, forums, channels, VoIP etc.). Network is friend-based, you may add friends on the /tech/ thread (https://8ch.net/tech/res/243323.html once you've installed the software, post your public key and add every other one). Traffic goes through several hoops so that everything is anonymized, and everything is of course encrypted. A file-sharing paradise.

Was thinking of building myself an AR wearable. The only real question is– what do I do with it? Like, what do I put on the HUD?

Sure, I could put shit like the weather and fuck, but I can check that once a day by opening my phone's lockscreen. It's redundant.

So, what shit do I do with my AR wearable?

Hey cypervs!

So, I am making a game for cyberpunk lovers. So, I won't take easy in anything, anything I would like to put in the story I will put no matter if it's polemic or not.

I have been gathering some cyberpunk images and references (and if you have some, keep posting!), but now I need to ask something for you guys.

Whatt do you like to see in a cyberpunk game?

Could be anything like = Game, character, mood, design, mechanic, gun, drug, feeling, job, point of view, interface. ANYTHING.

I wanna know what the people who really enjoy it and will, in the future, play my game, want.

ITT: We fuck up files in cool ways so they look schway as fuck

What I did:

>convert the image to .tiff or .tif format in GIMP

>open it up in audacity by starting a new project and importing it as raw data (you HAVE to pick A-law as an option when importing)

>play the track

>cool crackly noises

Now let's fuck this bitch up

>avoid modifying the beginning of the track, that's where the guttywats of the image are, and it wouldn't work without it being intact

>apply echo, reverb, wahwah, phaser, normalization, noise reduction, anything you fucking want

>export as headerless raw data (you have to pick A-Law again when exporting)

>erase .raw extension and replace it with .tif again

>open up the image

try it, anons

Help me not be a wage slave

Hey chummers. How do YOU keep from being a wage slave?

Reason I'm asking is because I'm about to be in a dilemma. I have a full time job already, but will need something on the weekends. After looking through all the normal job sites, all I find is PURE wage slave garbage. I know I'm in no position to complain, but the time LITERALLY wouldn't be worth the money, and would actually end up COSTING me more. So I'm trying to think of something more…off the grid.

Do you guys have any ideas for weekend jobs that just pay straight up brouzouf without having to deal with corporate circus just to get minimum wage? More "gig" type stuff that earns consistent brouzouf on a less "official" setup?

What to do with a COMPAQ Presario?

Hello /Cyber/. Pic related is my COMPAQ Presarios, 2 of them, with the matching monitor. They're all working, you can even see my fat ass in the reflection.

My father was a project manager for several companies before his death, I still have IBM and Microsoft jackets. Pretty schway stuff as you guys might say, but I'm not very literate with new systems.

See, what I wanted to do was load win7 on it but the ODD is busted, so while I'm waiting on another I'm trying to decide what I should do after it's loaded up?

I wanted to go for an opposite cyberpunk/vaporwave feel, windows classic theme on win7 with default font changes and all the stock music/shit replaced, so I made a little folder called VapOS to try and compile all the stuff.

Then, I tried to open some dll's and icons in my own sys32, but I can't seem to figure out how to replace it all. ResEdit keeps giving me a 'wrong format' warning when I click and drag the icons to replace. Tried PNG and ICO

What I was going for was the converse of cyberpunk. Where as cyberpunk is the gritty, black IBM hacker aesthetic, this would be a business computer decked out in logos and advertisement backgrounds with companies and all sorts of warnings- all for display and not to make the system cumbersome.

Do you guys think this is a good idea? Does anyone know anything about these old computers, perhaps if I should upgrade the RAM or if there's any spare parts manufacturer?

Mostly I'm just trying to figure out how to replace icons without going through themes and perhaps download that version of win7 to a disk so VapOS comes loaded and ready on any new old computer I find. I have like 15.

I'd be willing to share some of my other stuff, like the microsoft training book information and project management info found on the server, if I can recover it.

I just watched it and holy shit. I was just expecting your usual tv l337 hax0r type of show, but this show perfectly captures the cyberpunk look, and feel, plus it all takes place in a modern setting.

There's only a pilot episode, but so far I'm impressed with how /cyber/ it is.

/Cyber/ Academy - Books,Podcasts,Forums.

Hello /cyber/!

I come to you today in search of guidance.

There's plenty of INFORMATION on the web about:

* How to program.

* How to configure your router.

* How x protocol works.

And while that's cool 'n all, that's just INFORMATION, fragments info, that you read in x forum or wiki and forget in 3-5 hours.

I propose,we try to LOCATE and ORGANIZE technical books, courses, and instructional videos, in order to facilitate the study of computers and their inner workings.

what's the point of looking /cyber/ if you don't have the know-how a citizen of the web should have.

>How will it be organized?

i was thinking about using a binary tree.

So can any one recommend, books, pod casts or other material that could be used for self study?

i made a similar thread on lain-chan,and they pointed me to Computer Networks' by Andrew S. Tannenbaum, as a introductory book about computer networks, their technologies, organizations & protocols.

The idea is to make a single thread, asking about content for a specific theme(applied math, networking theory, etc) ONE THEME AT A TIME.Get the entries make a list and post it.Then move to a different subject,we would refine the list over time.

So.. right now we need to decide what THEMES we will need to look at.I Recommend:

History of Computation,History of programing,Applied math,"programing theory"(what's a class?,Programming paradigm?),networking theory,Something about the operational systems we have today.

Any one would recommend additions or changes?

Community and Privacy

I've been coming on /cyber/ for over a year now. I consider myself part of the community, but have not posted in several weeks because I still don't feel like there's a community that I've sunk my teeth into yet.So I've come up with a few questions:

>Who created the board?

>Are there other mods?

>Was it a team of people and did they design the theme?

>How come no other 8chan drama spills over into /cyber/? Do we just practice isolationism very well or just not care.

>Does anyone still communicate over TOX

>What are the goals of the board now?

And do these questions themselves violate the general sense of equality through anonymity we've created? I heard somewhere there were only 17 active posters on the board. If that's true, are they like the tripfags of the board?

I know this is a lot to ask chummers, but I'm too curious not to ask.
