FAQ
>What is cyberpunk?
Cyberpunk is a subgenre of science fiction in a future setting, noted for its focus on "high tech and low life". It features advanced science, such as information technology and cybernetics, coupled with a degree of breakdown or radical change in the social order. - wikipedia
>What is /cyber/?
/cyber/ is a board on 8chan devoted to the Cyberpunk genre, setting, and ethos.
>I want to post "x". Is "x" cyberpunk?
Lurk for a bit and ask yourself if you think users here would like it.
>What are the specifications for banners and flags?
banners should be 300x100 png or gif. file limit must not exceed 750kb
flags must be 20x11 png. Flags should be clean and legible on a dark background.

Newfag looking for help
I know little of technology and want to be more /tech/ and /cyber/. How should I start learning about things such as the following: encryption, computers, networking, programming, steps to enhance anonymity, ect.? And any recommended books? I apologize if this topic is against the rules, but I doubt I will get good replies from the /tech/ board. Any additional advice is also appreciated.
Forms of Resistance
As most of us know, censorship & surveillance are our biggest threats. Hardware backdoors, censorship on social websites, and background data collection in software are their primary form. The question is, how are we going to combat them?
Any solutions we adopt need to be easily able to be distributed and decentralized. If it's not accessible we'll cut off most of our potential userbase, and if there's a central body a corporation or government could sue or otherwise pursue then it will not last against a determined foe.
Use this thread to discuss technologies and techniques internet denizens can use to dodge Gov./Megacorp surveillance and censorship of all forms.
Potential Hardware Solutions:
-3D printed homebrew hardware, distribute the models online for free
-Website that tracks hardware backdoors and allows users to share strategies on disabling/removing them.
Potential Software Solution:
-Firewall that blocks all outgoing information that isn't specifically authorized and provides false info to fool data-miners.
Potential Online Solutions:
-Improved TOR-style network that fully protects anonymity
-A peer-to-peer hosted net where each connected machine acts as a server, unlike TOR which relies on the TOR network of servers. Files would be hosted on random machines, and the user that was the original owner of the file will not be attached to that machine. Essentially, an anonymous decentralized cloud-networking solution that protects anonymity.
This is all brain-storming, feel free to tell me if I'm a dumbass and none of this is feasible
Frugal /cyber/ fashion
I need to adopt a /cyber/ aesthetic for future endeavors. Not necessarily full goth-ninja, but cyber-influenced and occasionally full goth-ninja. I don't wanna be a corpcuck and spend out the ass to buy clothes that look like shit though.
I want a minimalistic, futuristic pieces.
What are some frugal /cyber/ fashion items that you'd recommend?
Stuck in the Past
For a board about the future you all seem to be living in the past.
I'm not trying to pick a fight it just seems like you're all obsessed with outdated and forgotten technology like BBS and you have this paranoia about not being spied on despite the fact none of you are even worthy of being spied on. I just think you're looking in the wrong direction, instead of sitting around pining for the past wouldn't it be more productive to forge a better future?
You shit on other people for being surface level and establishing hugbox communities where no discussion happens because no one is ever challenged yet /cyber/ itself is a pretty enclosed community. Instead of worrying about being spied on or who's a poser and who's not wouldn't you like to work towards ways to use technology to spread knowledge and intellectual discussion instead?
Billboards that track cell phones
>"Using anonymous aggregated data from consumer cellular and mobile devices, RADAR measures consumer's real-world travel patterns and behaviors as they move through their day, analyzing data on direction of travel, billboard viewability, and visits to specific destinations. This movement is then mapped against Clear Channel's displays, allowing advertisers to plan and buy Out-Of-Home to reach specific behavioral audience segments."
Basic Security
ITT: How to not be an idiot about securing your shit.
Leson 1: WEP security for your wifi is shit. If you want wifi, you'll need WPA2.
If you use WEP, then your password's hash is transmitted openly–and someone who's listening can send that hash in place of your password.
That's basically all I know on the subject, though. Anybody else got any tips?
Apple Hate
As someone who has abstained from Apple products since becoming even remotely tech literate; Does this change how we feel about Apple?
I still resent them and use strictly modded Android and Linux because I believe in it. It's just that the world isn't as black and white as our heroes like to paint it.

Apple Releases Updated Version of iOS 9.2.1 to Fix Devices Bricked by 'Error 53'
>Apple today released an updated version of iOS 9.2.1, which is designed to prevent the "error 53" device-bricking message that some iOS users received after having their iPhones or iPads repaired by third-party services using components not sourced from the original device.
>Apple originally explained that error 53 was intentional, implemented as a way to prevent the use of a malicious Touch ID sensor that could be used to gain access to the Secure Enclave, but customers with bricked devices were not happy with the explanation and Apple found itself facing a class-action lawsuit.

This Is the Most Amazing Biomimetic Anthropomorphic Robot Hand We've Ever Seen
>Because of the inherent complexity of a real human hand, biomimetic anthropomorphic hands inevitably involve lots of compromises to get them to work properly while maintaining a human-ish form factor. Zhe Xu and Emanuel Todorov from the University of Washington, in Seattle, have gone crazy and built the most detailed and kinematically accurate biomimetic anthropomorphic robotic hand that we’ve ever seen, with the ultimate goal of replacing human hands completely.

Linux Mint Hacked: ISO for 17.3 Cinnamon Edition Modified
>Linux Mint project leader Clem Lefebvre revealed in a blog post today that the popular Linux distribution’s servers were hacked on Saturday. During the “brief” intrusion, the hackers modified the ISO of the Cinnamon edition of Linux Mint 17.3 (Rosa) and also gained access to the distro’s forum database.
>The modification installs a backdoor into the operating system and any installations made from the affected ISO will need to be replaced.

Foxconn agrees to, then delays, Sharp acquisition
>Hon Hai Precision, better known as the electronics assembly giant Foxconn, has agreed to acquire Sharp for $4.3 billion - but a last-minute delay has thrown the deal into question.

France reportedly hitting Google with €1.6 billion tax demand
>The French government is reportedly demanding that Google pay €1.6 billion in back taxes, just one month after the UK government agreed to accept a mere £130 million over the same complaints.
>The French government, though, isn't such a pushover. Investigating the same tax dodges as its UK equivalent, France's tax authority has been reported by Reuters as preparing to demand €1.6 billion in back tax payments - though this has not yet been officially confirmed by either the French tax authority or Google's local subsidiary.

implants?
how do you guys feel about implants?
i'm planning on doing pic related myself as soon as the magnet source i'm going to use gets their magnets back in stock.
how do you feel about it? would you be willing to do it?
it allows you to feel electromagnetic fields. people can feel basically any alternating current. you can tell live wires from dead ones and feel any kind of electromagnetic generator.
Cryptography General
Recently there was a complaint that this board all about aesthetics - music, clothes, movies, desktops, GUIs, rather than truly /cyber/ technological topics. This can be fixed.
Lets start cryptography thread, where users learn, teach and discuss cryptography.
Reasons to learn it? Mainly, because cryptography helps to secure communications with encryption. But users also need in-depth knowledge - how algorithms (schemes, to be precise) work, because there are a lot of encryption tools out there, and in-depth knowledge will help to sort really useful tools out, maybe even improve them. Otherwise, how can you be sure what that crypto library does, right?

House Automation
I'm gonna automate my house soon.
Anyone done this, or plan to?
It's gonna be computer controlled (arduino)
Things to automate:
>Appliances (Coffee maker, TV, roomba)
>Lights, Audio (RBG LEDs instead of conventional lights)
>Security (Facial recognition profiling and RFID keyless entry)
I'm making a chatbot too so it'll seem like my house is completely AI controlled.
Retroshare
We at /tech/ are building a community on Retroshare. Download it here:
http://retroshare.sourceforge.net/downloads.html
For those who don't know, Retroshare is a private file-sharing platform with social networking features on top (messenging, forums, channels, VoIP etc.). Network is friend-based, you may add friends on the /tech/ thread (https://8ch.net/tech/res/243323.html once you've installed the software, post your public key and add every other one). Traffic goes through several hoops so that everything is anonymized, and everything is of course encrypted. A file-sharing paradise.
There's also a thread on /netplus/ if you want to know more: https://8ch.net/netplus/res/6.html
CSI Cyber
This show is really pissing me off.
Hollywood hacking everywhere of the "furious typing" then "I'm in!" variety, they say "cyber" like a Smurf says "smurf", and anyone who mentions online privacy is invariably a killer or a pedophile.
Did they really need a Captain Erzatz of Slenderman? Isn't Slendy open source?
Plus the Arquette woman has the acting range of a two-by-four.
Tell me this screenshot isn't some kind of injoke?
Making a minigame
I'm making a cyberpunk game, and it needed a hacking minigame, so I got inspired by Rez and made this thing. I'm trying to make the whole game VR compatible.
The minigame is a mix between boardgame and shooter, you could say that Starfighter Sanvein is an inspiration too, where you go along the map against time powering yourself up and fighting enemies.
I went for realistic hacking as you can see.

Politics
Honest thoughts on this man?
I'd like to demystify him a bit, and see past the lies of the media, I'm open to all opinions.
I'll preface this by saying I absolutely don't agree with everything he stands for, but I have come to the conclusion that he is by far in a way the BEST option of all the candidates save Sanders, who has relatively no chance of becoming the democratic nominee.
First of all, why is he running? He's 70 years old and a billionaire. His family is historically very long lived (the ones that aren't alcoholics). He could spend the last 20-30 years of his life playing golf and fucking his supermodel wife. He's influential enough he probably could make anyone else the front runner in his place. What does he gain from it? I don't buy that it's just a power trip, because he's not a dumb person. He just isn't. As much as the regressive left likes to meme that he's dumb as a box of rocks, he's incredibly smart and incredibly cunning. He graduated from a very prestigious school and turned a few million dollars into well over 10 billion and owns high exposure properties in 4 continents. He has to have SOME plan here.
Are his policies really that bad? He is a populist and a protectionist. He opposes TPP, NAFTA, and destructive globalist policies. He has absolutely no corporate donors. The media (who ARE corporate owned) like to paint this image that he's "the man" when "the man" seems to hate him quite a lot.
Is he really a bigot/racist/misogynist/etc? I've seen NO examples of him being homophobic, literally none. He's EXTREMELY socially liberal and economically centrist and has made it this far in the republicans by masking it with the traditional state's rights cop-out. He even wants legal weed to be a state's rights issue. He says that he wants to repeal and REPLACE Obamacare, and has said on numerous occasions "we're going to make it as free as possible, but there will always be people with nothing, and we can't let them die on the streets". And misogynist? Where is that even coming from? What has he ever said that's misogynist? Insulting SOME women automatically means he hates ALL women? I don't buy it. There are only two things which I can even begin to accept MIGHT be misconstrued as being "bigoted". The first is his comment on ILLEGAL Mexican immigrants which simply says "They're not sending their best, they're sending their criminals" which is arguably true, but it doesn't matter if it's true, it's not racist. Like at all. If Mexico was a white country he wouldn't be getting any of this flack. And the second is his "total and complete shut-down of Muslim immigration" which is yes, perhaps a bit harsh, but you seriously have a regressive and dangerous ideology that manifests itself in the form of violent extremists. It doesn't matter if the majority of Muslims are non-violent, they're still religious extremists nevertheless because the core tenets of their faith fly in the face of western, secular, values we claim to hold dear. I'm a staunch atheist but it's easy to see that the Amish, the Buddhists, etc aren't committing violent acts of terrorism.
He seems like the last choice we have to take back the world from the globalist corporatists for better or worse. This will be the last chance we get.

What I did:
>convert the image to .tiff or .tif format in GIMP
>open it up in audacity by starting a new project and importing it as raw data (you HAVE to pick A-law as an option when importing)
>play the track
>cool crackly noises
Now let's fuck this bitch up
>avoid modifying the beginning of the track, that's where the guttywats of the image are, and it wouldn't work without it being intact
>apply echo, reverb, wahwah, phaser, normalization, noise reduction, anything you fucking want
>export as headerless raw data (you have to pick A-Law again when exporting)
>erase .raw extension and replace it with .tif again
>open up the image
try it, anons

I begin to shill for the Pyra. Costs estimated between 400 to 600€, but with the modular design a hardwareupdate of the SOC, RAM and storage can be made in under 100€ some time after the release. Schematics and case design files will be released with the device in ~Q1/Q2 2016.

Hacking vidya
Since theres a lot of doom and gloom about the low PPH on /cyber/, I'll contribute stuff about my videogame. (This is the hacking sim/strategy game, not the point and click adventure, which is >>26172)
Theres two modes to it, one being the command line hacking aspect, and the other being a city view where you direct your agents to different locations to perform different actions. Thats one thing I liked about Hacker Evolution, it gave a distinct sense of 'place', where your level was rooted clearly in some physical part of the world, like an office building or intersection, or more broadly a city.
>Why start this thread?
I'm hoping to harvest some of the passion /cyber/ has for this kind of thing. Story-wise, I lean towards a lot of the themes present in cyberpunk, such as corruption, haves vs. have-nots, and tech knowledge opening up doors that most people don't know about. But its more like this game brushes up against a lot of /cyber/ themes, rather than this being Cyberpunk: The Game.
Currently I'm focusing on programming the world views, systems, and content creation tools. There isn't really any content yet. Halfchan agdg has a demo day on Nov 8th, so I'm trying to have something for that. Until then, anon has made some schway music for the game, only one of them is on their soundcloud though:

Will there ever be a true successor to deus ex?
It's been 15 years, and this game is still kicking. Sure, eidos/square has resurrected the franchise, but I think most of us know the godfilter update isn't a true sequel. There's mods, updates… but this isn't the same as a professional package. I don't necessarily mean in the same franchise, the same universe or story. I mean as a genre, and furthermore how to bring this about.
Is this a kickstarter thing? Better to iteratively graft on mods forever until it's effectively a 2.0 sequel? Will developers ever split the pie right?
fanboyish and a rant maybe, but god damn this gives me the itch. Please share thoughts and the like

Official Cyber Movie Night Thread
I was thinking we watch the movie on Sunday so people with social lives on Friday and Saturday aren't excluded and it still be the weekend. 10pm GMT (London) and 6pm EST (Murica). If that makes you feel some kind of way then speak up and we can try and fit everyone in that wants to participate.
I was thinking we could start off like basic bitches and watch Matrix or Blade Runner. However if you just post what you want and go with the majority or we could choose via https://www.random.org/ so it is non biased.
This is the first movie night, it will be trial and errory so don't act like spastics and lose your shit if people don't agree on everything or it seems a bit shambled. By the second or third week latest we should have a working system we can all agree on that runs smooth. Hopefully this all works out, should do its not fucking rocket science. Look forward to it so post your thoughts, etc.

Just found out that fully P2P imageboard already exist. What a great time to be alive.
Get ZeroNet:

That means you can have fully distributed imageboard that can't be censored by anybody.
I don't know about you, but i'm amazed that it really works.

Pirates beware: ISPs may soon be legally obligated to reveal your identity, thanks to the Trans-Pacific Partnership.
Wikileaks this week published a leaked copy of the intellectual property chapter of the sprawling agreement, which includes a mandate: Every nation must set up a way for copyright owners to find out the identity of copyright violators.
“Each Party shall provide procedures…enabling a copyright owner who has made a legally sufficient claim of copyright infringement to obtain expeditiously from an Internet Service Provider information in the provider’s possession identifying the alleged infringer,” the leaked document states.
The document also states that every country should establish a system that forces copyright violators to pay up, saying damages should be “adequate to compensate for the injury the right holder has suffered because of an infringement of that person’s intellectual property right.”
The treaty, nominally a free trade agreement, lowers trade barriers between 12 Pacific Rim nations: Australia, Brunei, Canada, Chile, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, Singapore, the United States, and Vietnam. But it goes well beyond trade into areas such as intellectual property and agriculture – two fields that tend to prompt domestic controversy virtually everywhere. Negotiations have been ongoing since 2008.

Board-tan
Hey, /cyber/.
I'm doing something that uses some board-tans, and it got me thinking on what's the status of board-tans and mascots overall on 8ch. Over the next few days I'll be asking around other boards, to possibly catalogue them somewhere eventually- do you guys have one, a board-tan, a mascot?
Over a year after the board's creation, was the idea ever approached, did you reach some conclusion, do you want one, not want one? What's your shpiel, basically?
Pic unrelated, I just figure you'd like Bubblegum Crisis.
Artificial job protection
how will people make brouzouf when its no longer realistic to expect to make brouzouf off things that can be pirated?
when any digital product and anything that can be 3d-printed can easily be pirated by the absolute lowest-denominator normies completely anonymously/untraceably, and all that is left are service sector jobs, how will the middle class afford food? where will the wealth come from?
and then, what about when computers are able to outclass the top human engineers by magnitudes? or when business owners have computers in management instead of people?
Shadowrun 3 Hack
Hey there,
just wanted to make a little post here to gauge interest, as I do not know how many regulars the board has,
and how many of em are interested in P&P-RPGs.
I started roleplaying and experiencing Cyberpunk with Shadowrun 4th edition, about 10 years ago, and have come to hate the rules system with a vengeance.
A while back now I started looking at alternate systems. Eclipse Phase is pretty awesome, GURPS might be an option, but the problem is that, as I have found out on Dumpshock, people want the D6 system.
That led to me going back and looking at 3rd Edition, and that experience was pretty funny, as a couple of stuff that made no sense in the system as I knew it, suddenly made sense in the older one.
Some rules though are way too complicated, such as Rigging and Driving in general, hacking, and some details in every aspect of the system,
so I started working on a simplified hack of Shadowrun 3 a while back.
I could work through all this shit myself and present the finished product here, but I thought I might try crowdsourcing some ideas, and getting some input.
In the end I would like to have a relatively simple (for Shadowrun standards) system for Cyberpunk roleplaying, with modular elements, such as the time period (from early SR to GitS level of technology) and things like Magic.
How to get spare parts/ free equipment/ dumpster diving thread?
Hey what's up chummers? In multiple threads I heard from some of you guys that you're able to pick up used computer equipment for free, basically dumpster diving or because your work through them out. Any of you guys want to share your methods, what places to look, etc.it'd be cool if you posted your stories here.
Bitbusking
Greetings /cyber/, I need your help today, I'm a homeless artist, my story is long so I don't want to bore you with that (unless you guys ask), My art is making music and I don't like charging for it because it is what I truly love to do so here you go guys
https://my.mixtape.moe/phdorb.mp3 "Haze", This is an unfinished track in progress, you may like this one Genre: think of it as triphop, house drums and vaporwave at the same time.
https://my.mixtape.moe/pdfdxo.mp3 "Unfolding", this is a little rap beat
https://my.mixtape.moe/yfcwpj.mp3 "Concrete", you guys are probably going to like this one as well this is the loop version of an industrial drum and bass song I'm currently working on
I also take song requests although I can't really make high quality music right now, currently I'm working in a portable version of lmms (free music production software) and cheap earphones so sorry if the quality is not so great.
What I'm asking is for a little bitcoin donation, with 10$ worth of bitcoin a day I can eat, I'd use paypal but I dont have bank accounts or credit cards so paypal will freeze my brouzouf if I dont "verify my account", what I do is I use local bitcoins to get fiat. Why not go busking in meatspace? I'm currently living in an undisclosed location in the american continent (not in north america where homeless people can live with just pennies because the local currency there DOES have buying power). Again If anyone is interested please feel free to ask anything, how I got here or if you want some tips on living unbanked or about music production (or how to become one, before going homeless I was about to start freelancing with my audio services) please feel free to ask.
Thank you for your time.

self defense thread
I have an idea similar to pic related.
Basically it's a discrete taser built into a glove.
> wires lead from glove to a control unit
> unit is where all the components (battery, pi zero, etc.) are so hand function is not limited
> activated by pressing using the thumb to press a combination of buttons located on the index finger
> two combos, kill and stun

Any of you watched the first episode?
I just watched it and holy shit. I was just expecting your usual tv l337 hax0r type of show, but this show perfectly captures the cyberpunk look, and feel, plus it all takes place in a modern setting.
There's only a pilot episode, but so far I'm impressed with how /cyber/ it is.
Cyberpunk phones?
I never use my smartphone's features and I don't like the idea of having accounts and spyware in my phones software (yes i know about custom roms, my phone currently runs cyanogen, and if i could it would run replicant). So what are some cool old (or maybe new) phones that can be used on today's networks for about $50?Transportation in a Cyberpunk World
The city is a playground. How do you get around? Motorcycles seem to be the popular choice, with bicycles being a close second.
I've been considering customized electric boards and skates as an alternative. They can be made to run at a hushed volume and can reach speeds of 20+mph. Some versions even have suspension, large wheels, etc.
Tools of the Trade
Hello friends.
If any of you are planning to do anything that lives up to the /cyber/ dream of raiding corporate facilities, you need some serious kit and planning. One of the tools I've found exceedingly useful is the illustrious compound, thermite. It can be used for melting security fences, sabotaging equipment (cameras/computers/you name it), and anything that requires destruction or heating. It's also fairly quiet for what it does.
So, if you're looking into how to get your hands on some, here's a basic guide to creating it at home.
Thermite is actually a name for many different mixtures, all made up of two parts: A reactive metal and a metal oxide. It works by a simple redux reaction that swaps the oxidation to the reactive metal, releasing a shit ton of heat in the process.
Realistically, the only metal you should use for the reactive metal is Aluminum. It works well, and is readily available.
For the oxide, you have two common options: Copper (II) Oxide, and Iron (III) Oxide. Copper ignites at a lower temperature, meaning charges made with it are easier to light, but in my experience Iron makes a more reliable reaction.
Now, to prepare the Thermite itself, you want to have these chemicals in the finest powder you can get them in, then mix them together, with a proportion of ~2/3-3/4 Oxide and ~1/4-1/3 reactant. Precision isn't required here.
To light, you'll need something hotter than a match to do it. As stated previously, Copper Oxides also start the reaction easier. You can light a strip of Magnesium or use a sparkler to light charges reliably.
Also, make sure to be wearing a glove to prevent burning yourself, and shield your eyes adequately.
Last thing is acquisition of materials. Powdered aluminum is actually what's inside an Etch-A-Sketch, so if you can find one of those lying around you're set. Alternatively, you can just grind down some aluminum. Copper Oxide is possible to create at home by just heating Copper in an oxygen atmosphere until it oxidizes. Iron (III) Oxide, on the other hand, is very hard to get pure. You can get it from a chemical supplier, but that can look suspicious, and be an unwanted paper trail.
Thanks for reading, pyrotechnic responsibly, and feel free to share other effective chemicals/equipment itt.

キタ━━━━━━(゜∀゜)━━━━━━ッ!!meta thread
I am seriously considering hosting /cyber/ by myself
Reasons for doing so:
1. Josh (infinitechan dev) announced that the migration to infinite 2.0 failed, and that the next time we switch, everything after december 18th will not be saved. If this is the case, then there's really no difference between that and switching to a completely new site besides the URL (assuming the new site uses infinity next).
2. The way the site is run and general non responsiveness from the administration is frustrating, and I feel like I can do a better job by myself.
3. The current site is a broken mess, and won't be fixed any time soon.
—————
I'm aware that taking such an extreme action would fracture the already small userbase, but at this rate, I'm very pessimistic about the future of 8chan. We've been waiting for fixes a long time, and what we get is mostly silence from the administrator. Over the last year I've donated around 300 dollars to keep this site up and help development, but the rate of change and lack of communication is frustrating.

WHAT YOU'LL BE LEARNING:The /cyber/ diet
Even in dystopia, you got to sustain yourself somehow. But where to begin? Here's some comprehensive and easy meal replacements to live more dystopian and /cyber/.
Drinks:
In dystopia, a lot of resources are scarce. How to combat this? Make do with cheaper alternatives.
>Soykaf; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bZsNu30s0OM
>Alcohol; best bought at supermarkets, most definitely scotches/whiskeys or vodkas are preferred but stuff like absinthe can be a hell of a dystopian drink
>Canned coffee from Japan (or China to keep it really /cyber/); purchase at asian supermarkets or through e-stores: http://oyatsucafe.com/pokka-canned-coffee
Breakfast:
You start the day in a rush, understandably, to get to your job. Here's some on-the-fly foods:

Lunch:
Maybe you're in a rush to storm a megacorp. But wait, you didn't stop for lunch. How will you fight all those security guards if you need to when you're exhausted from not eating? Here's quick take-out lunches or food to easily prep at home.
>Mongolian beef; http://www.myrecipes.com/recipe/mongolian-beef

Cyberpunk Bedroom
I've finally got my own room that I can change/alter anyway I want,i'm trying to get a good cyberpunk vibe/theme going
Everything I've read said back/mood lighting is key & fog would be too much dank smoke should be enough anyway
So i'm looking to get some led lights to give it that dark glow feel, multi monitor setup, etc
but I'm having trouble finding those flat led panels like in cyb.jpg and one of my walls is weird fake wood paneling
any thoughts on what I can paint the wood and walls and where to find those kind of leds? There's also a large double mirror leading to a walk in closet idk what to with.
Secure hardware choices
What do you guys do about hardware security e.g. backdoors/etc.?
I mainly run a laptop because I travel a lot but I have a desktop back at home. My desktop is fine but my 15" A8 APU laptop will melt my testicles and rarely gives me more than 3 hours of battery life. And I don't want to go with intel because with their vpro chips giving nearly all of their cpus 3G connectivity nowadays you might as well just email your encryption keys to the nsa.
Is it even possible to find a decently laptop without being a bluepilled slave to the kikes?

/Cyber/ Academy - Books,Podcasts,Forums.
Hello /cyber/!
I come to you today in search of guidance.
There's plenty of INFORMATION on the web about:
* How to program.
* How to configure your router.
* How x protocol works.
And while that's cool 'n all, that's just INFORMATION, fragments info, that you read in x forum or wiki and forget in 3-5 hours.
I propose,we try to LOCATE and ORGANIZE technical books, courses, and instructional videos, in order to facilitate the study of computers and their inner workings.
>why?
what's the point of looking /cyber/ if you don't have the know-how a citizen of the web should have.
>How will it be organized?
i was thinking about using a binary tree.
So can any one recommend, books, pod casts or other material that could be used for self study?
i made a similar thread on lain-chan,and they pointed me to Computer Networks' by Andrew S. Tannenbaum, as a introductory book about computer networks, their technologies, organizations & protocols.
The idea is to make a single thread, asking about content for a specific theme(applied math, networking theory, etc) ONE THEME AT A TIME.Get the entries make a list and post it.Then move to a different subject,we would refine the list over time.
So.. right now we need to decide what THEMES we will need to look at.I Recommend:
History of Computation,History of programing,Applied math,"programing theory"(what's a class?,Programming paradigm?),networking theory,Something about the operational systems we have today.
Any one would recommend additions or changes?

How did japan become the favored defaul tsetting for so many cyberpunk writers?
Looking through the Cyberpunk wikipedia, when I came across a link to a dead article about the setting of cyberpunk novels.
I'm not a fan of Japanese pop culture: I don't like anime, manga, j-pop, otaku, cosplay or hentai. I do appreciate the culture of shinto, family, the architecture, technology and the general aesthetic of japanese cities, but why are cyberpunk novels are they mostly in Japan, specifically? What do you think, chum?
List of compromised corps
This thread is dedicated to corps you should not trust
Do not buy hardware, software from them, do not use their services (avoid if possible).
When posting others, write their name down, and add their exploits/shenanigans/problems next to them. If it all goes well, we should ask the CEO of Jinteki Industries to host and save the list. I will start by the obvious ones:
Microsoft: win10 telemetry, xbone-1984-fun
Google: infamous botnet shazbots
Lenovo : Sole known manufacturer and seller of the infamous henghzi chip (no public specifications known) , Superfish incident, Lenovo Service Engine bloatware/botnet software
Intel : The memory sinkhole , (can't find source right now) some motherboard chipsets have a special IC which can send data without the computer knowing it
Sercomm: hidden firmware backdoor in routers
Amazon : tracks you like mad shit
Verizon : hands over all call data to the iNfamouS Admins
Yahoo: same as google

I am depressed by the War on Drugs
Ladies and Gentlemen,
I started reading cyberpunk fiction back in the 1980s.
In particular, I liked the depiction of drug use in _Hardwired_ by Walter Jon Williams.
Back then it was possible to use street drugs but still have a middle-class life.
We listened to the warning that the War on Drugs was a war on civil liberties. We got older and we accepted that we had to pass urine tests and hair tests to confirm that we had not been using lately. But it got worse and worse and worse.
Now the War on Terror is eradicating the remnants of civil liberties.
I can't believe in cyberpunk fantasies. I can't believe in a Walter Jon Williams world any more. The War on Drugs was ridiculously effective. It killed off civil liberties.
The fact is that street punks must survive first. Even if you're nihilistic and suicidal, you have to make sure to die on your own terms. Getting access to street drugs nowadays entails too many compromises, too many sacrifices on your personal independence.
(Note: I am fully aware that some people can use Tor to browse bitcoin-based markets. Apparently these people live in countries where parcels are not searched. I live in a country where parcels are searched thoroughly.)
However, having survived without drugs for many years, it has become clear to me that drugs were just part of the picture. A cyberpunk ought to have dangerous drugs and dangerous weapons.
Our black markets are simply not up to the task of equipping people with both drugs and weapons. Even if we had weapons, we would not have a serious chance of attacking the plutocrats. We *could* try revolutions, but the plutocrats would probably co-opt the revolutions.
We could try to build an alternate society before the old one collapses. E.g. we could learn how to rig up solar panels and how to distill rainwater. But that is not easy: many governments want to tax solar panels and criminalize rainwater collection.
And a word about sex. The original cyberpunk stories were soaked in Baby-Boomer-style sexual hedonism. That is crap and it will not work. Sexual hedonists are not going to succeed at any kind of revolution; they are going to be too busy visiting the STD clinics.
My head hurts and I don't have decent painkillers because the damn doctors don't want to over-prescribe.
Even if Putin crushes the evil Yankee empire, the aftermath will not be pretty. A Russian-Chinese alliance will not be very joyful. It will not have a lot of room for civil liberties. Maybe Putin will let us have solar panels.
Schway Rides
Who /motorbike/ here?
They're a pretty schway way of getting around

>also pic related exists and only costs like $13k
Have you ever taken a walk through a city at night?
When politics and advanced technology are taken away from the subject of cyberpunk, we are left with a fundamental aspect: the city. The perception of reality
How can we be sure that what we perceive is real if our senses are subject to the inherent bias of our organic systems?
Even use technology to record a moment for example, leads to the same problem. While a non-edited/manipulated recording would be a definitive memory of sorts (in contrast to our reconstructive memory), the only way to evaluate, observe and perceive such is still using our senses, which makes everything subject to the same bias. Wh is to say that other beings wouldn't perceive the world with a different bias (and thus in a different way)?
Now imagine, how would it would work out with a machine that doesn't have a reconstructive memory, allowing her to pick and mix events as it best fit her?
Thread Rules and Traffic
Does anyone else think that having no bump limit and refusing to make new threads is slowing this board down?
Bear with me here:
>Because there's no bumplimit, loading threads takes forever (and nobody wants to read the entire 1000+ post thread)
>Threads on the front page get deleted or locked because a thread on page 9 is about the same thing (and has stagnated)
>Because of this, people are afraid to make new threads (because the thread might get locked for being the same topic as another thread buried somewhere in the depths of the catalog)
It's the same thing that kills most forums–discussion of a topic is limited, because it's already been talked about in another thread and duplicate threads get deleted. At least we don't ban people for necrobumping, though that doesn't seem to be helping any.
disconnecting w10
Is this enough to make it tolerable? I know it's closed source software made after 2000 which instantly makes me suspicious but still if I can isolate it enough I'd like to run Windoze software, but I'm not willing to sacrifice security for entertainment.
What can you do to stop M$ traffic? I read that it bypasses the hosts file and you'd need a separate firewall. I can do that but is there an easier way?

Meditation General
Does anyone on here meditate? I've been getting into it recently, and I think it's a really great thing to do. It's more humanistic and not directly cyberpunk, but I still think it is and will be necessary for humans in a cyber world to find inner peace away and personal freedom from corporations, etc.Stenography
>inspired by dank cyberpunk hacking theme
>download 3586 files from /cyber/
>find only 2 hidden ZIP archives
>1. LAINZINE #1
>2. worthless joke
For LAINZINE #2, the OP of that thread fucked up and didn't have the PDF in there, they had to link it further in the thread. That was disappointing.
So far I have just looked for hidden ZIP files, not for hidden text as seen in this example:
http://www.wikihow.com/Hide-Text-Within-an-Image
I haven't written a bash script to look for hidden text yet. I'll give that a try and see what comes up. If I come across encrypted text I currently don't have any tools for decryption, and depending on the type of encryption it would be foolish of me to try to break it with my equipment, which is not that powerful. It also occurred to me that one could use stenography to encode a message in the pixels based on certain shades at various XY positions, such that it would not stand out as being obvious in the image to the casual observer.
If you anons can show me anything that I missed, help me level up, etc., that would be great. Otherwise let this be a general stenography thread and I will post techniques as I progress.
btw, worthless joke is as follows:
>Friend has desktop
>Friend has cat
>Friend's desktop starts BSOD'ing consistently
>Figure it was cat hair, fan, overheat
>Get to friends house
>Hey anon, you start fixing the computer, I'll go get some chips and pop. What flavours you want?
>Head upstairs
>Begin dismanteling computer
>Pause
>Something is not right
>Look about
>Feel like I am being watched
>Keep working
>Fuck, why are these bolts stripped? Anon probably overclocked this shit
>Mangae to get it off
>Look inside
>Cat hair everywhere
>Scratch marks on compenents
>what the fuck
>Noise to the rear
>Turn around
>FUCKING SIAMESE CAT ATTACK
>Crash into computer
>Claws my face
>Pull it off
>Oh god my arms stop it
>Drop it
>Leave room
>Slam door
>friend comes home
>what happened anon
>Explain
>Dude, that's mitten's computer, he built it himself
>Mine is downstairs in the kitchen, I thought you'd like to work there better

The Definitive "What Is Cyberpunk" Thread
Calling all the schway-azz kobuns here.
Every other thread devolves into this one argument - what is cyberpunk?
Free as in GNU/Freedom?
FUCK-DA-MAN-style punk, with a digital bent?
Doing whatever it takes to make it?
Grey man fake-corpcuck?
Crime and glory with big fucking computers?
Just enjoying the ride?
Slumming it up with a hardline tech angle?
What does it all mean to YOU?
Feel free to argue, shitpost, whatever. This thread is a safe space for absolutely nobody.
In Your Nature
This is a call to true /cyber/ folk.
The soft revolution and first major apocalypse approaches. This is real. It will be in your lifetime sooner than you might be prepared for. I'm compelled to remind you that the heart of cyber is not based in superficial technology. It is based in primitive survival. It is based in native living. It is open to exploiting technological advances. Many if not most of you know this. Many of you need to be reminded.
There is no greater knowledge than survival in the natural world. It means knowing how to live off the land. Growing food. Shelter. Water. Fire. Harnessing electricity. Independence. You must value the Luddites. Though they may not respect everything you do, they are your friends and even greatest assets. There's great irony in cyber heroes having to reject many forms of technology to keep tyranny at bay. You embrace technology to a maximum where it's a path of freedom and reject it where it is the path of authority. It won't always be clear. And so you must err on the side of humanity or you will be dominated by what soon approaches. You'll try to be wise. You'll try to be open.
Natural living may embrace cybernetics but it is natural living that we must foremost embrace. I am with you. We have the technology. We must have the wisdom.

Arbeit
Okay, guys, I've had enough of it.
I basically feel like a fucking hypocrite. I'm advocating free software anywhere I go, but I work as an IT consultant and a programmer in a company that makes proprietary software. I'd love to quit, but I also need to make brouzouf for a living.
In a past year I've been walking the cyberpunk way more and more and now I've begun to hate corporations and I don't really respect any capitalist-made soykaf like intellectual property, I stopped believing in the power of brouzouf, I don't care about the source it comes from. But I need it to survive.
So, my question is: how does one make brouzouf in this corporations-ridden world full of sheep following their more "successful" peers?
/cyber/punk tabletop RPG
Someone mentioned in another thread that it would be interesting to make a community project to revive a bit /cyber/, so why the hell not.
While we already have some cyberpunk tabletop RPG, none of them are flawless. We have Shadowrun, which has a fairly "nonstandard" setting; Cyberpunk 2020, which has some mechanics that haven't aged very well; GURPS Cyberpunk, which lacks a defined setting…
The scene of cyberpunk games has been dead for a while -more or less like the whole tabletop industry, but fantasy games still get some new releases from time to time- and no game has brought anything new to the table (pun not intended) for several decades, so why not change that?
Our options are:
>Release "patches" for existing games
>Cyberpunk 2020 mechanics revamp
>Shadowrun setting revamp (Gibsonrun 2: Cybernetic Boogaloo)
>Writing a module for GURPS Cyberpunk
>Making our own altogether
If we decide on first, second or fifth options, we can invite /tg/ after setting down the mechanics because /tg/ is terrible at designing mechanics and make a cross project with them.
So, what do you think, /cyber/? Do you want to go down mrbones.bin's wild ride with me?

Looking for schway cyperpunk type 8tracks/YouTube/Spotify playlists I can throw on for ambiance. Link to your own playlists or just ones you really enjoy.
I'd just look through the music thread but it has kind of become a clusterfuark of mediocre artists (not to mention its massive size makes it impossible to navigate).

Saving crypto! Another victory for the EFF et al

I really hope Obama will react to this in all of our favour, which was a key point why we elected him in the first place.

GNU ICECAT VERSION 38.3 RELEASE IS FAST AS SPICED MARSHMALLOWS
ICECAT JUST GOT UPDATED!!!!
posting copypasta to help newbies:
The best firefox fork with freedom and privacy as its philosophy is GNU Icecat, which actively removes bad "features".
Icecat is portable, and can be contained in a single folder. It's severely fanatically pro-freedom and privacy. It's more secure than vanilla firefox with just as much room for hardening. It's stable, and the only frequent updates it gets are security updates.
you can get it at http://www.gnu.org/ or just go straight to https://www.gnu.org/software/gnuzilla/ and select https://ftp.gnu.org/gnu/gnuzilla/ and choose your version from there.
remember, if it's too slow, you may need to reenable hardware acceleration in about:config and don't forget to check about:permissions as well
when you have your browser "tar" file you can right click and "extract here" then search through the files and make changes as you please. inside "browser" there is the folder "searchplugins" delete those, they are undesirable and you should choose your own later.
There is also the "blocklist.xml" file, which if you have custom settings for can be a huge help.
GREAT NEWS! UPDATE!
gnu icecat USED to be mysteriously slow. With hardware acceleration enabled it functioned a noticable amount better, and with these addons (listed in addon info) and about:config and about:permissions edits, is significantly improved, yet still slow at rare moments.
but now:
https://ftp.gnu.org/gnu/gnuzilla/
https://ftp.gnu.org/gnu/gnuzilla/38.3.0/
newest icecat version 38.3 is out and is LIGHTNING FAST NOW!

Nomadic living
I want to become a nomad. Ideally, I want to get an SUV, but some bedding in the back of it, and live out of it either full time or part time while traveling across the country. My plan is to either park in busy parking lots at night (they'll be empty, but fill up in the day and surround my car) or at rest areas and state parks. I will move around from area to area whenever I feel like moving.
I'll bring a laptop, mobile devices, a bicycle, my guitar, clothes, small tools, and whatever brouzouf I have. I want to live a simple life on the road; I would need brouzouf for gas and for food, which I would try to be as frugal as possible with.
I want to learn to program so that maybe I can be a freelance programmer and sustain myself while on the road. That's inherently cyber as fuck, but the only problem is that I don't know the first thing about programming and the concept of advanced programming confuses me to no end. I am extremely willing to put the work in to learn. I tried to learn C++ but I had no fucking clue how to even run a program. Compilers confuse me. I'm going to try to learn Python to get my foot in the door.
Any advice?
The sky above the port
Console cowboys, greetings from across the net!
As you may have guessed by the capcode, this is your board owner darkengine speaking. Some of you may also know me as an admin of fellow cyberpunk imageboard lainchan.org.
Your previous owner monoelain stepped down today, and the board ended up in my hands. I want to hear your thoughts about what should happen next.
As far as I can see, our options are:
- Keep me as BO, have me watch the report queue and delete posts which violate the rules, but otherwise keep a hands-off approach to /cyber/ (this more or less maintains the status quo)
- Keep me as BO, but discuss some cool stuff we could do to help reinvigorate the board (remember that we were once in the top 25)
- Find a new BO
Being an admin of lainchan and the BO of /cyber/ could be seen as a conflict of interest (although in my mind /cyber/ and lainchan are not direct competitors), so if there are any issues related to my involvement with lainchan, I will of course invoke the third option and help /cyber/ find a new BO. And of course, I'm open to ideas other than the three I've listed here.
Let me hear your thoughts!
Anonymous laptop
I recently Lost my main hard drive a week ago.
about 2-3 years worth of documents, videos, memes from half chins and this place, info graphs.
Gone.
so I had a realization this shit is worthless to me.it also gave me a Epiphany,a clean slate.
I am saving up on owning a laptop that is anonymous as it can be.
other than Linux and TOR
what other programs/software,torrents do you recommend? hardware specs like RAM and CPUs are already looked at.However your suggestions will be helpful
It was Daedalus all along
So, I just figured out that Deus Ex is, in fact, a cautionary tale about AIs.
I think that all Deus Ex events and, perhaps, some before them, were orchestrated by the Daedalus AI in order to break free and "save the world" in it's own sense.
Here's what I think.
* From Morpheus we know, that AIs consider human need for a deity blatantly obvious. It is later confirmed by Helios in Deus Ex and Invisible War. While Morpheus mentioned that in passing, Daedalus was made to 'keep the world safe', so he'd be motivated by that need.
* Daedalus was designed by Illuminati to hunt down 'terrorist' groups. I think it makes sense to assume, that it was designed to interact with AQUINAS.
* Therefore, merging of Daedalus with Icarus was only a surprise to Everett, who did not take existence of AQUINAS into account. Daedalus existed in the same reality as AQUINAS. Besides, AIs do not forget things. It knew exactly what it was doing.
* It recognized *both* MJ12 and Illuminati as terrorists and escaped. Otherwise it would openly side with Illuminati, rather than work on its own.
* Since Daedalus was designed by Everett, we can assume that it was commissioned before Bob Page took over.
* We also know that Daedalus escaped almost immediately after launch: " Whatever mysterious organization managed to create the first true artificial intelligence succeeded so well that their creation managed to convince them that they'd failed… and then escaped. " [Deus Ex description of Deadalus].
Here goes my first open speculation. Notice, how little we know about the civil war between Illuminati and MJ12. But there is something interesting about the way they were organized. Illuminati was a worldwide conspiracy network. It had multiple leaders (Everett, DuClare, etc) and a lot of redundancy. MJ12, on the other hand, is pretty much Simons and Page. Makes sense - MJ12 was not designed to rule the world, but to transform it into the 'city o the hill', so it is much more lean. But is also way, way more fragile. When JC Denton killed both Page and Simons, MJ12 ceased to exist.
Kaiba
I just finished watching this show called Kaiba. It's a short and unusual anime with one of its main themes being how the advancement of technology has effected peoples lives in a negative way. In this world they don't have computers, hackers, large corporations, or urban cities, but instead they have figured out how store their memories in an external device. People can swap bodies to live forever, download good memories, and delete bad memories, but of course this is a luxury only afforded by the rich, and there is a whole lot of corruption. In general, each episode of this deals with how someone's life has been ruined by this new technology in a different way.

starting a game of 2020
Howdy.
I'm starting a game of Cyberpunk 2020 and I was wondering if anyone would be interested.
I'm probably not the finest GM, but I'm determined to see this project to the end regardless. It's a rather experimental game and story-heavy that I'm determined to see the results of.
If anyone from /cyber/ is interested: https://app.roll20.net/campaigns/details/886975/rehabilitation
/grim/ HORROR MOVIE NIGHT
Greetings /cyber/, >>>/grim/ here.

Huuuwhelp. Here we are. Corporations are now officially more sovereign than nations. Look out for police in ironman suits https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t0t_XnK3sz4 and fully automated armies http://www.theroboticschallenge.org/ in the next decade.
We are literally cyberpunk dystopia now.
internet radio
Lately i've been getting super into internet radio. I feel like it's a somewhat cyber way to get your news, what with fewer FCC regulations than actual radio, and if you dig deep enough you can find stations not slaved to the megacorp/botnet/government-controlled media.
Does anyone here listen to online radio stations? If so, post the links and descriptions for 'em.
TPP
went to the cataloque to search and saw NO threads on TPP
Really? You guys call yourselves /cyber/ and this whole board is more about fashion and music than actual cyberpunk events. The Internet is about to die in 5 days and anyone with a bad record is going to risk prosecution and none of you fuckers care.
Techwear
Anyone else here into "performance clothing"? Shirts you can wear for days on end, water-resistant trousers, blazers with concealed pockets, etc.
I'm looking to put together a wardrobe that's as functional as possible whilst being small as possible, since I'd like it to be able to fit into a backpack.
Shazbot Here
/cyber/, help me out. I've loved cyberpunk for years now, but have never actually been cyberpunk. I got into it with the novel Brain Jack back in high school and am now am an avid fan. Unfortunately, I am the least /cyber/ person you can think of.
The most illegal thing I have ever done is torrent one song from Pirate Bay for a school video project. I come from affluent parents and have lived comfortably all my life. I do use a Galaxy S5 running Android, a Windows 10 Dell laptop as my main computer, and have a Google account. I have little to no experience with machines and the most I've ever done with programming is a JavaScript course in high school where I made a few seconds of animation. I want to live the /cyber/ life, but I just don't know how. Help?
Paranoia
Malware, backdoors, deals, surveillance, telemetry everywhere
>No hardware corps can be trusted
>Your software isn't safe
Most sites recording and selling user data (at minimum) to the higuest bidder(s)
ISP doing the same
>The internet isn't safe
Any ideas that differ from the popular opinion are remarkedly discredited, destroyed and disregarded not by logic and facts, but by sheer peer, mediatic and economic pressure
>Society isn't safe
>People aren't safe
>Society isn't safe
Has anyone on /cyber/ already reached the point of no return?
GNU/Linux Attitude
Why do freetards get riled up when someone reveals they aren't using GNU/Linux, but they get stuck at complaining and criticizing, yet never actually helping the wageslaves and SIN-users to improve their systems, their privacy and their security?
Wouldn't it make more sense to instead help even those out against the system being part of their divide-and-conquer tactics?
Is dubstep cyber?
Fuck, this made me euphoric:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V2VmcuOEqEg
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R_xC8b17rCU
I don't know why, but it work better for me than binaural/isochronic waves from audacity… seems like modafinil 100+.
Dubstep and Brostep general.
I write a Story
Hi guys i plan to write a cyberpunk story and i like to hear our opinions what i should definitely put in my story and what kind of stuff i shoud think about when i write the story?
The story will be like the "song of fire and ice" books. That should mean i will write the story out of many perspectives of many different characters. I still look for characters for my story.
Until now there are the following characters:
Hacker (male)
Runner/Assassin (female)
Megacorps Security-Chief (male)
CEO (male)
I hope you like to help me, i would love to hear your ideas and opinions.
2015
>two thousand and fucking fifteen
>robots are still primitive as fuck
>the robots we do have are extremely expensive and are hardly useful except on an assembly line
>no adroids anywhere
>AI is still a joke
>no super giant tech corps churning out groundbreaking new technology every year
This is not the future I was excited as fuck for back in the 90s.
Does anyone else regret not dedicating their life to programming at the age of 3?
