Online Security
We need to take steps to ensure our privacy. Do not let them pull the "if you've got nothing to hide" card; that's like saying we don't need freedom of speech because "I have nothing to say." I have nothing to hide. I am not a terrorist nor am I interested in helping terrorists, but my emails and such are mine and I refuse to lay down and let the government walk all over my freedoms. So, if they want to exploit me, I'll make them work for it. So should you.

Useful Tips
Obviously from time to time someone will come to this board and they wish to discuss a portion of Qur'an or the life of the Prophet(عليه السلام) or the tribal practices of certain people(s). There is nothing wrong with questioning and questions should never be shunned. All answers lay within Qur'an.
Taqiyya (تقية) is the Shi'a practice of concealing one's religion when in a life threatening situation and is unheard of in Sunni fiqh. It is NOT a license to spread misinformation or lie about Islam to non-Believers. Anyone who believes everything you say, regardless of how well sourced, is a lie, then there is nothing you can do. Don't argue with them. Just smile and walk away. They will claim it is taqiyya, even though you did not make it up.
Do not mix truth with falsehood and do not deliberately hide the truth Qur'an 2:42
Note that all Believers - Shi'a, Sunni, Ibadi, Sufi, Druze, Salafi, regardless of masjid affiliation - are welcome on this board. However, Qur'anists (those who reject hadith) and Jihadis (radical Islamists) can go to their respective boards: >>>/modernislam/ and >>>/islamicstate/. They are not considered Muslims and can take it up with Allah.
Remember: You are Allah's ambassador to the world.
Unsure
Salaam Brothers. I am a 19 year old white male from the united states. For the longest time I have struggled with religion. I have read alot about Islam. For some reason I feel like I'm being pulled to Allah. I don't know how to explain it but I feel it.
For the longest time I have been involved in many activities that are forbidden in Islam. I really enjoy them but they are haram. I fap alot to furry stuff, eat non halal, I drink, I smoke Marijuana and I'm not circumcised. I don't know how to get away from these things that are haram.
I have in the past when I misunderstood islam, I mocked Islam. I know Allah forgives and I want to get closer to him.
I have some questions too.
1. What is Jannah like?
2. Will the things I said I did like drinking, eating non halal, etc will these always be haram? Even in Jannah and after judgement?
It has been said you can have anything you want in Jannah, what if the thing you desire is haram? And with me fapping to furries is that haram? Is that haram to have in Jannah?
3. Do I need to be circumsised?
4. What are the differences between Sunni, shiite, Ibadi, etc and which is right for me? Does Allah condem other sects?
5. What do you think of the "Children of the book" idea? I am currently a non practicing catholic. Does Allah condem the jews and Christians even though they stil worship Allah (swt)
6. What does (swt) in reference to Allah and what is (صلى الله عليه و سلم) in reference to the prophet Muhammed?
7. Do I need to marry?
8. Will Palestine ever be free again?
And finally if god created everything, why did he let other cultures that do not worship Allah (swt) to exsist? Thousands of years of history and culture yet is is false? It just seems weird to me.
Thank you for taking the time to answer.

Kharijis history and ISIS today
I'm not going to write out all the history so here is a beautiful article about the history of the Kharijis.
http://lostislamichistory.com/who-were-the-kharijis/
In short it talks about the rise of a group called the Kharijis who disagreed with the current caliph who was Ali.
They ended up having very twisted views of Islam and committed horrible atrocities all stemming from their view that Ali had made a mistake in his rule. Ali making a mistake (from their view) eventually warped into the belief that all rulers should be free from sin, this warped into the idea that people who sin (mainly focused on Ali) are disbelievers, this warped into an idea that they should kill all who sin. But clearly they kept making up ideas to fit with their political agenda which was to kill Ali (which they ended up doing) and all those who supported him, by the time Ali was dead the movement kept moving and caused much destruction before it eventually dies out.
The main people who ended up following and joining with the Kharijis were uneducated youths who didn't really know much about Islam themselves.
Why knowing this history is important is because all this is extremely similar to ISIS today. ISIS formed by taking grievances to the extreme, just like with the Kharijis. ISIS twists Islamic teachings for their own political purposes, just like the Kharijis. And ISIS mainly recruits from those who know little about Islam but feel they need to make up for it, just like the Kharijis. In order to stop ISIS we need to learn from our past.
Converting
Hello people,
First of all, I hope you are all doing well, for you are all my brothers and sisters, muslim or not.
For a while I have thought of becoming muslim. And with a while, I mean around three-four years. I have thought of becoming an Orthodox christian too, but after following a year of theology classes I have come to the conclusion that Islam is, theologically speaking, more reasonable (to me).
Now, the problem that I have is that I am not accustomed to Islamic rituals whatsoever. I have no muslims in my family nor do I have an Arabic background (I'm western European). Yes, I believe in God and the oneness of God.
But I do not know how to pray. I got some muslim friends but I am afraid to tell them that I want to become muslim, because then there is no way back. I am quite a person with quickly changing thoughts, hence my question here. Yesterday I layed in my bed, and as a flash, I felt the urge that I NEED to pray, in order to come in Heaven (or Jannah, whatever you prefer). Plus, my parents are very hostile to Islam.
All in all, sorry for this chaotic post, but I have no idea what I should do.

Advice needed
Greetings, i want your advice. This will be a bit long but i need to explain my whole situation.
I am a ethnic (white) Swede with no family connection to Islam or the Middle East whatsoever. Or to religion at all, for that matter, all my relatives and most others around seem to think religion is stupid, more or less.
Since my early teens i have been interested in Islam, along with a passing interest in other religions, but i always felt that Islam was something for me, but i could never find a way to get into it. There are a lot of Muslim immigrants around here now, and there are actually several mosques in this city, but they are all very "ethnic"-one Kurdish, one Iranian, one Somali, and they don't advertise in Swedish or welcome Swedes in any way, as most of them probably can't speak it at all.
So i always felt that there was no clear way to become a Muslim if you weren't born into it, and judging by all the signs there are very few actual ethnic Swedes who have done so. Curiously, i had some Middle Eastern friends who were all pretty negative towards it, some even became irreligious Christians just to distance themselves from their upbringing, so they have been of no help.
I have checked all over the Web, of course, but everything related to "Swedish Muslims" seems to be all about immigrants and not aimed at ethnic Swedes at all. The websites of the mosques and organizations here are mostly written in Arabic or some other language, or in such bad Swedish it doesn't make any sense at all, further showing they have few if any ethnic Swedish participants, and don't care to get any either.
So what do you suggest i do in this situation? Moving is out of the question, and i wouldn't even know to where.
Shellfish, haram or not?
Are shellfish haram or halal? I've honestly heard different things about this, one is that everything in the sea is halal, and the other is that shellfish are haram because we still follow all Jewish dietary laws.
The reasoning behind pigs, dogs, ect. being haram is basically because they are nature's garbage disposals and they eat anything including the trashiest stuff out there (more then they can filter out of their bodies) so they end up having lots of toxins in their meat and are more likely to have worms and diseases then other animals.
If we look at shellfish they also seem to eat a lot of trash (crabs basically eat trash off the sea floor right?), but it is also harder to tell for some shellfish exactly what they eat or do.
What have you guys heard about all this, and what are your opinions?
For those still keeping track ...
Some fascinating documents have been declassified concerning Osama bin Mohammed bin Awad bin Laden.

Love him or hate him, he was a fascinating historical icon and will be studied for generations to come.
Just wanted to say great job
I just wanted to say I like the board you have running here. I may not follow the religion but to have a board that is so open & welcomes explaining the ins & outs of Islam is very unique. Yeah /christian/ exists but they seem a bit harsh to people who ask any questions, so it's good to have a nice going religion based board.
You guys still have a thread on /icup/ where you were getting a team together but never finished. If there is a third one this summer I hope you guys get in.
also what happened to all your threads from before?
Questions about Islam
I am a catholic and some feeling is bringing me or making me more interested in Islam, but apparently there is a alot of contradictions in the qur'an but so many scientific answers in there too? I was also wondering if how can Jesus be a Muslim if Islam was made 600 or only found old documents non before year 600 years after his death? Why do Sunni's and Shiites hate each other? And my last question why are the laws of Islam so violent? I mean stoning for adultery, decapitating hands for stealing, execution for people leave Islam, non Muslims have to pay a tax so they don't get killed etc. I will try to get my hands on a qur'an soon but I want to ask these unanswered questions.
Nigera Murders
Boko Haram burned a bunch of children alive in Nigeria the other day. 86 so far confirmed dead … No hashtags or flags with faces on FB praying for these victims? I guess only when the media deems it a tragedy worth talking about is it actually worth talking about. Sad case … This lack of equality sometimes makes me sick and I have no answer for it. If this happened in England it would cause a giant [foul language] storm and be unavoidable news. Who cares about these dead kids with Kanye in the news and oh Trump has something dumb to say.
The killing of children as well as the burning of prisoners are both equally forbidden in Islam.
Boko Haram attack refugees
Nigerian troops rescued over one hundred "sex slaves" from Boko Haram last week.
Sexual slavery and the selling of women is permitted by the Koran, therefore it is practised by Muslim insurgent groups.
The women were taken to a camp where they were supposed to be safe from further Muslim attacks. But yesterday, suicide bombers, murdered 58 people inside the camp itself.
Suicide attacks are rare in history. One example is the Japanese Kamikaze pilots. In Islam, the Koran promises rewards in the afterlife for such people, therefore suicide attacks are common in Islamic wars.

In the name of God, the Compassionate, the Merciful
God Almighty has said: "Go forth, lightly or heavily armed. And wage jihad with your wealth and souls in the path of God. That is best for you if you know" (al-Tawba 41) [Qur'an 9:41]. And on the authority of Anas (may God be pleased with him): that the Prophet (SAWS) said: "Wage jihad against the mushrikeen with your wealth, souls & tongues"- Musnad Ahmad: Musnad Anas Malek (11798).
Jihad of wealth has been mentioned with jihad of soul in the Qur'an in ten cases, and in nine of those cases jihad of wealth has been presented beforehand over jihad of the soul, and only in one case has jihad of the soul been presented beforehand over jihad of wealth. And on the authority of Omar bin al-Khattab (may God be pleased with him): "The Messenger of God (SAWS) ordered us to give charity and that coincided with the time I had some wealth. So I said: 'Today I will outdo Abu Bakr, if ever I have outdone him.' So I came with half of my wealth, and so the Messenger of God (SAWS) said: 'What have you left for your family?' I said: 'The same amount.' And Abu Bakr came with all he had, so he said: 'Oh Abu Bakr, what have you left for your family?' He said: 'I have left for them God and His Messenger.' I said: 'By God, I can never outdo him in anything.'" (muttafiq alayhi).
So on account of the exceptional circumstances the Islamic State is facing, it has been decided to reduce the salaries that are paid to all mujahideen by half, and it is not allowed for anyone to be exempted from this decision, whatever his position. Let it be known that work will continue to distribute provisions twice every month as usual.
And God is the guarantor of success.
About Syria
In Syria things are getting worse everyday. Muslims suffer extremely because of khawarij(ISIS) and Russian air strikes. I know Allah will grant victory muslims in Day of Judgement but also Allah says "Fight them; Allah will punish them by your hands and will disgrace them and give you victory over them and satisfy the breasts of a believing people" in 9:14. When this day will come?
Islam and Meditation
Just got back into meditation practice and it's really helped me a lot. I found this video and it motivate me even further.
This man was serving a life-sentence and converted to Islam in prison. He talks about how vipassana and metta meditation improved his salat and his understanding of the Quran. It made him a more calm and compassionate person.
Might help others here, it's worth watching imo
salah for trans women?
Serious question:
Okay, so I know it's not wajid to salah during haidh, and women are allowed to take three-to-ten day breaks from their salah in each month.
But what about trans women? Trans women don't menstruate per se, but we do still have a hormonal cycle which causes PMS-like symptoms (irritability, cramping, nausea, etc.)
Is it wajid for a trans woman to perform the salah during these periods of physical and emotional stress?
Scientific achievements of Islam
Salaamu Alaykum,
while debating with a friend he claimed Islam would stop any scientific progress and there were in fact not a single nobel prize winner from an islamic background. I countered with invention of algorithms and fundamental math theory which both have their origin in the Arabic world, but he noted those were before Islam got a foothold in those. I want to be able to properly defend my religion and culture in a debate, but I guess I am unable to find good arguments on the internet, please help a brother out!
A real question brothers and sisters
Salam my brothers and sisters. Now i have a odd question. Firstly I am a convert whom speaks hardly any arabic. Now i find that in my community i dont fit in. So as it would seem im seen as the "other" aspect of the community who doesnt seek conformity or to be in this and that club and event. my friend ( also a convert ) is always trying to be in this and that event or group and in the end hes kicked around by our peers and looked down on, but he is shy and dismissive. He doesnt see it so i dont know what to tell him. Even when it comes to me i generally keep to the older brothers whom i know well, i never talk to the "youth" and they few whom are my friends are always urgeing us in this direction or that, not in the Islamic way more like this is what we ( the youth ) see as a acceptable thing. is it only me whom sees this?
Here in lay the question why should i care about being in the community, I love Islam i have loved it every day since i embraced it. Am i a bad muslim for not going with the flow and just being another guy in the line?
