The fundamentals are the same. The difference between western shit and Japanese stuff are different work ethics and different influence.

You're best of just learning how to copy accurately and then trying to apply that skill by copying Japanese artists. Only then does it make sense to look for their guides on how they approach construction.

/loomis/ anon here.

You're more than welcome on our board. Before you start drawing from imagination, you have to draw from reference. Start with pencil and paper. Read Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain by Betty Edwards and do the exercises (though the stuff she recommends that you make like that plastic frame aren't really necessary).

A common misconception is that stylized faces are easier to draw than realistic ones. You have to study a lot of faces before you can make good stylized drawings.

Draw every day.

Once you have step miles further, you will realize that it's not just the quality of drawing that matters. It's how you apply the best technique so that it makes your life easier while maintaining the kind of quality in your drawing as you wanted. Drawing techniques are very broad, practical and kind of complicated to explain. An artist can get really frustrated just because he didn't do the technique correctly. When drawing proportion of a figure, you pretty much have to get the measurement of the body realistically right. But whenever it comes to applying technique, its whole new subject in drawing. At one point, you will feel that you'll never be good enough because there's a lot of things to learn.

Well that sounds promising at least. And yes I have great issues finding proper tutorials, or applying them properly. For some things the explaination just isn't sufficient.

Anyhow feeling less depressed today so I'm posting a second drawing. Feel free to criticize as you wish. I tried coloring by feel (except for the eyes) so yeah it's a mess. The drawing sucks but I think it's better than the first.

File: de2afcbdbe1ecf0⋯.jpg (55.86 KB, 1200x600, 2:1, contour.jpg)

>>43256

I think the main focus is in this drawing is her body since her legs and hands are hidden from viewer. The thing about body shot is that you have to give a lot more detail in her body compared to other area because that's the only revealing part for viewer want to see aside from her face. The detail isn't fine enough for that drawing, personally I don't think you're ready to draw on that kind of pose. First thing first, get the proportion right. Understanding how the contour line works in drawing can really help you getting the shape of your figure right. Right now, the way you draw the head is kinda off. Maybe you should work on that before go into more difficult part.

What? No way. You are joking right. Theres no way you've improved so much within such a short time

>>43258

You're probably right I should work more on the basics again I feel the same. Instead of randomly coloring and shading I should understand it first. I just felt like drawing figures a bit for fun I guess. And about the head I totally felt that too it always ends up looking a bit weird somehow. Not too sure where I'm messing it up but I guess it's the hair maybe.

>>43259

Don't be fooled I just added shading and didn't draw hands. (Haven't really felt like practicing hands).

The base is pretty similar to the first picture.

Also had to use a reference to fix up some of the anatomy since I ran into issues.

Arm and leg are slightly long but still acceptable. Make sure the elbow dont pass below or reach at the same level of where the waist is. The elbow should be 1 or 1.5 inches just above the waist.
