I play a lot of f2p grindfests and spend money on them. Planetside 2 is my go to game right now. SOE/Daybreak is a flawed company, but the game is still fun. The community is dying, so I'm getting what I can out of it.
I was playing World of Tanks one day, and suddenly got messaged by someone from 8/v/. He had seen a video I posted, and remembered my name from it. After talking for a bit and deciding he wasn't a creepy stalker, we grouped up and played for a few hours. I never have anyone to play with, so that was nice (I hope I didn't hold him back). It was the last thing I would have expected to happen. Problem was I was bored with the game, so I just couldn't be bothered to sign back on. I hope he doesn't think I blocked him or something. I may have been hiding, too. Not sure. Someone actively wanting to play with me is so rare it's off-putting.

You'll always have "that" group of people among competitive communities in video games. I finished playing Ghost Trick for the first time the other day. I was mostly into it since people were saying the twists were similar to the anime Punchline but it sill managed to surprise me a few times. I had a lot of fun with it.
Do you guys know any other good puzzle/mystery games like it for the DS?

There are a few puzzle/mystery games for the DS.
There is Hotel Dusk, along with its sequel Last Window, both feature an ex-cop doing his detective thing. Both have very good stories, and have a light film noir feel. Thinking about these two, I should get around to replaying them.
Theresia is a thriller themed adventure game, where you play as an amnesiac who wakes up in a dungeon full of traps. Movement is made in typical dungeon crawler fashion, and when you get to any areas of interest, you are presented with a picture n the bottom screen which you tap to interact with things, some of which are trapped and can hurt you.
Another Code: Two memories is another puzzle game, but I never got into it, so I can't vouch for it.
Flower, Sun and Rain is a puzzle game developed by Suda51, the guy that made Killer7, No More Heroes and Killer is Dead, so the story gets confusing and abstract at times. It's about a private detective that get's called out to an island resort to investigate some problems they are having. The music is nice, consisting of remixes of various classical pieces.
As >>18569 Mentions 999 is a good one, the only problem would be that trying to discover the true route on your own will have you replaying the puzzles repeatedly, which gets boring, so try playing it twice(or maybe it was 3 times) on your own to go through all the different puzzles, then use a guide to get the endings you want to see, as your dialogue choices along with which combination of puzzles you pick will determine which ending you get.
Fug, I almost forgot to mention the Phoenix Wright series. If you haven't played it, you play as a lawyer, and in order to protect your client, you investigate crime scenes for evidence, then use that in court to expose any contradictions and blatant lies in the prosecution's assertions.
I wish there were more English puzzle VNs

I beat three games within the last week: NOTAHERO, Alpha Protocol, and Call of Juarez: Gunslinger. Currently I've been switching it up between Dirty Bomb (The only game I've been able to play with /v/ on) and Rust (I only play because I know a coworker who plays it and he's the only one I can play games with)
Lately I've been kinda sad because my friends are too busy or going away and aren't able to play games, or even talk about them. So I'll end up beating a game and then have no one to talk about it with and be stuck with these memories and no one to talk to. It kind of sucks.

Regarding the game itself, it is really lackluster. I seriously have no idea what happened at Gamefreak during this Generation but even XY itself was a very disappointing games and so are ORAS as both game and even as a remake.
I know Gamefreak are very incompetent developers but this is a brand new kind of idiocy from them. What I wouldn't give for Pokemon to be given to more competent people. It's a franchise ripe with potential but sorely wasted right now.

From what I can tell the extent of the content is like less than ten dull game modes, no campaign, no galactic conquest, no clone wars teams, seeminly no ability to get in vehicles, maps are pretty much decorated rooms more than anything- just a generic shooter. Oh, and they shove girl power in your face with both the commanders who give directions (overly-specific to you) being women and the rebel survival mode character being a girl. At one point an AT-ST was called a "chicken-walker".

I'm pretty passionate about video games as a whole. I like to look at the history of it and stuff. I remember emulating yet to be translated games as a kid. I'm fine with most genres, eras, and platforms of games. Some of my favorite series are Smash Bros, Castlevania, Fire Emblem, Tales of, Street Fighter, F-Zero, Devil May Cry, Final Fight, Rockstar games, Metal Gear, and more. Recently been emulating alot of beat em ups. I do have PC games, but my laptop is pretty terrible and can't run more demanding games like Warframe. I plan on getting a good gaming Computer in the summer though. It seems most people I meet online just play TF2/Counter-Strike/Battlefield all day. Which is fine, but I don't have a good gaming computer yet. Its rare I meet someone who's deep into console, handheld, and PC stuff.
I still follow gaming news and everything, but I can't enjoy them as much as I used to anymore though. I don't think I have "grown out of it" or "gotten tired of it". I just guilt myself so much. "Why are you playing this game when you could be studying or doing chores?". I need to learn how to relax again. I also honestly waste too much time online. All of the time I wasted online could've been used for movies, games, music albums, reading, stretching, working out, cooking, etc. the list goes on. The internet literally causes me to procrastinate from leisurely activity.

I don't have that problem with online games, probably due to a lack of a good gaming computer. I do play Smash online alot though instead of starting new games. What I tell myself is I'm too busy to start a new game because I'm too busy to give it the attention it deserves, so I just keep playing the same couple of games. My backlog just keeps growing too. I think that's why there are people out there with 500+ steam games.
It's especially easy to fall in that trap in online games because beating other people feels fun and you also get to interact with people as you play them. I spent so much time this past summer playing the same two games with my ex instead of starting new ones.
I dwell alot on the time I wasted, but I don't think it's healthy. All it does is make you paranoid and unable to relax, it makes you sit there and choose what activity you want to do in your leisure time, before you know it 2 or 3 hours have passed.
Honestly I think 1/2 hrs a day of vidya isn't so bad. I feel like I "grew up too much" and now I can't enjoy things. I just have to relax. Also man that anime was qt. I still have to finish Shin Mazinger.

Im a console pleb and no issues there (so far, at least)

Cant complain about either, but its an extremely subjective matter anyways
I find most people who dismiss it are longtime fans, so maybe thats it (its my first game of the series)

I recently picked up a game called Lovely Planet again. It's really difficult, and I don't play FPSes much, so I gave up on it a while ago, but I forgot just how fun it is! The cutesy aesthetic and upbeat music are also pretty relaxing. It seems like the kind of game some /kind/ friends might enjoy!

Same here, its particularly discouraging how total posers who were never into this think they deserve respect and can't be criticized
Sometimes I sort of get why kurt cobain hated how corporations were making grunge commercial and mainstream then became so depressed he killed himself. I get its easy to mock it when its not you and its not your hobby whats getting destroyed by posers and wannabes

I've been playing Dark Souls in anticipation for the new one. I've sunk over 1,500 hours into this series, and my hype is reaching critical levels. Thought I'd mention it here, halfchan's /v/ and /vg/ have god-awful Souls communities.

No.27858
>>27774
When I first saw a commercial for Bully way back when on Adult Swim I thought it looked like a really lame game. I consistently hear people celebrate it on the chans though so now I feel it's a must-play. Who knows, maybe a chunk of it was that the latent /kind/ spirit in me didn't want to embrace anything under a bully label.
Sort of vidya-related I've been having a real good time reading the Pokémon Adventures manga. I got the whole series of 14 volumes for something like $60, probably some of the best money I've spent. I mean it has it's flaws definitely but it has a ton of fun with the source material and what seems like a questionable story element often redeems itself in a cool way. I wanna go back and play the old second generation games now but it wouldn't be possible for me to trade (like, in the unlikely event I had a pal to trade with) or get the time working right if I emulated on my flash cart and finding a working cartridge would be more of a hassle than it's worth. Nintendo will probably release them digitally but I'll bet they gimp the letter function to that nonsense they have going now because they need to let bullies ruin things before they can even lift a finger.
So there's my lengthy blog post for you.

Jesus Christ, man. Is it that good? I've been looking to get into the souls games but what little I've seen of them seems to show they took the japanese approach to lore, ie. disjointed and self-contradictory snippets with no actual thought behind the story.
So is it just a good-looking fighter with good atmos or is there an actual story behind it?

>what little I've seen of them seems to show they took the japanese approach to lore, ie. disjointed and self-contradictory snippets with no actual thought behind the story
I think I know exactly what you mean. Certain, if not most of the Final Fantasy titles are this, right? They take the hands-off approach to storytelling, leaving much of the really juicy bits for the player's imagination to fill in. However, they do this out of laziness, and it shows. The characters are shallow, and the story has a bunch of gaping holes in it that leave story nerds feeling very unsatisfied.
I am a biased as fuck Dank Sauce fanboy, so take this with a grain of salt, but Dks1's story is not self-contradictory or lazy. But it is a lot of work to figure out on your own. The devs actually encourage guide-reading, and talking with others to collaborate in figuring out both gameplay and lore subjects. They say this harkens back to the old days, when games had real secrets and you would explore them together via forums and chat rooms. So if that sounds terrible to you (not judging, it's a matter of taste) then you won't like it much. But I suggest giving it a pirate anyway.
Demon's Souls is a mystery to me because no ps3. So is BloBo. I still don't understand why no PC release. It's like they hate making disgusting amounts of money.
Dank Sauce 2 swings and misses at nearly all the points that made the first one great. But it's servicable, and the PVP is more fun no thanks to the increased artificial input delay. You will not like this one.

I'm currently playing 999 on a DS emulator.
This will be my third attempt in playing the game to full completion. It's not that hard of a game, so far. It's more or less whether or not I have the time to play that eventually gets me to stop playing.
Here's hoping I can actually finish it.

Well, the game itself is basically a visual novel with a bunch of puzzles thrown into it. A key element, lack of a better word, is the use of "digital roots" which the game does very well to explain to you.
The story itself; however, has a very ominous tone. I won't spoil anything, but I'm actually very scared on how my decisions will effect the rest of the characters.
Music is good. I think I'll get the soundtrack when I'm finished with the game
I currently have progressed farther in one day and have entered storyline territory that I haven't been in before.
Also, the game seems to run well despite being played on an emulator.

nothing, really.
In terms of genres, I suppose my biggest one has been JRPGs, but I'm tight with platformers too. I dunno, though, something about Shantae always rubbed me the wrong way. The game, not the character. Maybe the hair whipping thing.

Who even cares really? Smash 4 ended up being probably my least favorite of the series because of all the bullcrap they pull on one hand and the lack of common sense on another. I like Shantae but I wouldn't spend a cent on her with their overall underwhelming performance. As for the voting congrats to the Project M dipshits for getting Roy in regardless (or if it was a plot just to piss off Project M fans a non-sarcastic congratulations).
