Also, completely straight person here. The short version is: You can't 'rewire' people based on what's available. It just doesn't work. I guess a way to make it understandable how it is, is to say if you're 100% into women, you can't even instinctively judge whether a man is attractive. All you can do is look at how attractive women find which men, look for overlapping features between the ones they find attractive and approximate a judgement that way. And even then, the results seem to be two extremely contratictory types. Some seem to like ubermanly greek hero types, some seem to like thin, stringy youngsters.
What that means is you say that some few, you find to be 'a genuine rare 10/10' because that is the degree of interest they spark in you. Imagine that particular 'software' that allows you to tell if someone is such a 10/10, is simply not installed. The interest doesn't pop up. It doesn't matter if others find them to be a 10/10 because to you, it's not even a 1/10. It's more of a 'no value available'.
I guess…imagine being colourblind. Imagine you can't see purple. Purple, blue, it's all just blue to you. And then there are these other people who say they're attracted to purple things. Specifically purple things. If an object has puple on it, they will be attracted to it to some degree. But you can't even tell if there is. You can try to approximate it by looking how much blue there is, but that perception of attractiveness purple colour just isn't there. And then they tell you you're neurotic for not seeing and appreciating the purple on things. Maybe you're simply attracted to orange. Maybe they can't tell red from orange. Maybe you're a man (women don't seem to be grossed out that much, they just won't do it unless there's some additional advantage to gain like attention or lack of men that are willing to put up with them ) and the idea of doing sexual things with things that aren't orange grosses you out the same way those other people would be grossed out by the idea of sex with things that aren't purple.
And before you get cheeky and ask what 'about objects that are both', ask yourself what colour does it's genitals have? What colour do it's facial features have etc. There are certain core features that just aren't murky whatsoever. You can have an object the face, chest and genitals of which is orange (which with humans, if one is, all will be), and the rest of which is completely purple, but someone who's into purple will simply not be attracted to it.
If this helps, this is how non-bisexual people are.
