Having watch the Matrix series again and more properly than before I've found some very interesting philosophical references, such as Plato's cave allegory, what's your favorite piece of philosophy from Matrix?

Matrix is pretty much Hermetics in a new form (hence the name Neo), who believe in the Great Architect, the form of movies.

the whole movie is a reference to psychedelic drugs. taking "the pill" is the most obvious one but all the stuff about "freeing you mind," becoming "unplugged" etc. it even directly references mescaline at some point. also the constant references to alice in wonderland, another famous drug tale.

it's a very simple epistemology lesson.

it takes the typical fedora tipping scientist's world and tears it right out of his mind.

a few professors referenced it in lectures. surprisingly, large numbers of students didn't understand because of the generational gap. gettin' old...
