Enough arguing about languages, about editors, and about operating systems.

Let's argue about colorschemes.

I alternate between wombat256mod and a hand-modified eva01.

What colors are your favorites?

Forgot the eva01.

Dark backgrounds are the tacticool of color schemes.

Studies have shown that light backgrounds with dark text are the best for readability. Eye strain can be solved by using redshift.

My personal favorite is Solarized (light). The color scheme is similar to the applications in Plan 9, which I like quite a bit but I've heard people say it looks ugly. I like yellow backgrounds, they remind me of the pages of old books. The highlighted colors aren't too saturated either.

> Dark backgrounds are the tacticool of color schemes.

That's a stupid thing to be elitist about. I just like the way it looks and it's nicer on my eyes. Colored text sticks out more noticeably on a dark background as well.

It's silly to tell me to use a color that strains my eyes and reduce the eye strain by tinting my entire monitor color when I can just use what I'm already using without problems.

You wanted a thread on color schemes. I told you there are studies which show light backgrounds with dark text are objectively better. And the redshift is for all activities on your computer. You dumb bitch. You are trying to rationalize your poor decisions when they have no basis in reality. Wake the fuck up, your whole life is a lie and you just have to take it in your ass like a man. Bend over that barrel. Take it in the ass.

I do prefer the look. I used red shift for half a decade, and now I don't need it. I have no issues reading small white text on a black background. Again, why fix a problem I don't have?

Switching to lucius for a while. Figure I may as well try a lighter scheme out instead of discounting it. I'm curious about how my eyes are going to take it in a dark room though. Perhaps it might be better to have dark on light for a lightened room, and light on dark for a dark room.

I think I've got to concede.

After just a few hours with a light background, I'm already noticing that I'm much faster scanning through my code, making quick edits and even writing code.

I switched about 5 years ago, but back then I was working a graveyard shift, so constantly being in a dark room may have had something to do with my eye strain back in the day.

Either way, you were right, and I was wrong.

I'll have to modify my eva01 to work with a light colorscheme, or find some other purple-heavy one. I like my purple.

I use light color schemes and this sounds like bullshit. I feel like you're some kind of light-color shill making an elaborate ruse.

I just use light color schemes because they're fucking pretty.

Honestly, I still prefer the look of darker schemes, but a bit with light color schemes is already doing well for me. That may be largely because I work with a web browser and switching between light and dark backgrounds hurts.

Ghost in the Shell color scheme: http://www.vim.org/scripts/script.php?script_id=2331

It's actually quite pretty with Forth, with the background colors on stack-manipulation words.

It has colors other than green: local variable definitions are bright blood red.

I've never had eyestrain since I started leaving some fucking lights on while I work.
