This is the board for CYOA images and threads. These are images "that describe varied scenarios with a common theme, intended to spark discussion about the choices you would make as you describe why you feel one of the offered choices is better than the others." to say it with the words of 1d4chan. Some of them are stupid, really, really stupid but others are impressive feats of worldbuilding and graphic design. Either way, almost all of them are fun in their own way.

Please obey our golden rules:
0. Obey the global rule.
1. Only one CYOA per thread, please. Unless it is a OC or project thread.
2. Keep it CYOA related
3. Do not spam
A copy of these rules can be found at all times at http://8ch.net/cyoa/rules.html

Dice have been enabled
I have added many subjects in older posts to make CYOAs easier to find
This board is now officially NSFW, it is NOT safe for work. This means that lewd CYOAs can now be posted un-spoilered and the occasional porn image can be posted.

Other suggestions for this board can be posted here.

Trust me there ain't no sense in being mad at an entire board.

Does pic related answer your question?

>Attachments lost on 8ch.net are also lost on the beta because they are linked, so the longer your board stays active on 8ch.net, the less migrated content will exist on the new site when the switch is forced for all boards.

In a unrelated/related note, setting the complications last always causes trouble. I'd rather get them now.

Malevolent, Rival, Hero, Treasure. 15 to 31 minion tokens. Great.

[AFFINITY: GAIA]

BOSS STATS:

GIANT CONSTRUCT

Vitality, Physical, Agility, Magical, Perception and Charisma Prowess.

Empowerment(Mystic) and Personal Guards.

31(+4 personal guard tokens) to spend.

Minion Types: Average and Giant Sizes - Humanoids and Elemental

4 Personal Guards: 2 Champions, 2 Archmages.

8 Tokens > 200 Guards

2 Tokens > 50 Scouts

2 Tokens > 50 Servants

1 Token > 25 Recruiters

2 Tokens > 20 Sorcerers

1 Token > 10 Overseers

2 Tokens > 20 Priests

2 Tokens > 20 Craftsmen

2 Tokens > 2 Warlords

1 Token > 1 Oracle

1 Token > 1 Chosen

MINION PERKS: Appearance, Ascendancy, Faction, Sustenance, Equipment, Training.

REALM PERKS:Expansion, Legendary.

Here we go. Sorry for taking Complications first, but its a pain in the ass to have to go back to check complications.

I really don't know what to put for my main Boss - He's the least important thing I can even think about. I even put on some points for Personal Guards because otherwise I have no need for anything here, Corruption is just nifty because it goes with my realm's gimmick. Besides, having two Champions and Archmages in my throne room isn't too much of a waste, when you think about it.

Everything is focused on self-sustenance and the expansion buff. I have (and need) no Soldiers, Scouts work together with GuardsPost too long. Click here to view the full text.

First off complications so I don't have to revisit earlier options.

Treasure, Malevolent, Rival, Hero. 31 Tokens.

Affinity: Mystic

Boss: Giant Humanoid.

Vitality, Physical, Agility, Magical, Perception, Charisma Prowess. Enchanted Weapon, Personal Guards.

MINIONS: Humans and Elementals, Average and Giant.

[5] 125 Guards, [7] 50 Mages, [9] 50 Scouts, [10] 25 Servants, [12] 50 Clerics, [13] 25 Recruiters.

[15] 20 Battle Mages, [16] 10 Sorcerers, [18] 20 Riders, [20] 20 Priests, [23] 30 Craftsmen.

[24] Warlord, [25] Witch.

PERSONAL GUARDS: 2 Champions, 1 Archmage, 1 Oracle.

6 Coins Remaining. Ascendancy, Appearance, Faction, Sustenance, Equipment, Training.

REALM PERKS:Expansion, Legendary.

THE PLAN.

The whole realm I've made is focused on the Expansion Perk. With Training, Equipment and Sustenance, I have no need for food and can avoid trading, which is helpful if I'm going to use Expansion, which is likely going to blot out trade relations(which I'm not even trying to save at the moment). Just make Guards watch over what I "conquered" by being close to.

Other things I bought is for manipulating other realms without attacking them. Appearance, The Witch, Malevolent, The Recruiters, Legendary Reputation? Everything so I could intimidate other realms as I grow. Hopefully, the end reaction is that they won't attack me, or that they'll hold off attacking me in hopes that my nemesis is going to defeat me, which will give me more time to train my armies and prepare for the realm storm which will happen should the Rival and the Hero fail to defeat me. Once I'm done spreading my mystical land plague onto everyone, I promise to dominate them gently.

Taking complications first:

Treasure, Benevolent, Crusade. Undead. 31 Coins.

Whispers. 10 Shards

Mystic Realm. Average Human.

Empowerment on:Inferno, Aquatic, Glacial, Earth, Air, Gaia, Light.

Enchanted Armor, Enchanted Weapon, Personal Guards.

Minions(31 Coins): Humanoid and Elemental Giants and Averages.

Perks: Empowerment(Wasteland), Ascendancy, Equipment, Training. (27)

50 Soldiers, 200 Guards, 75 Mages, 50 Scouts.(12)

20 Battle Mages, 20 Sorcerers, 20 Riders, 20 Priests.(2)

Champion, Warlord, Archmage, Chosen.(0)

Personal Guard: 4 Champions.

Realm Perks: Large, Protected.

I am the fucking owner of thousand of Empowerment options. Because I can. I am exploiting the fact that Enchanted Weapons, Sorcerers, and Champions are knowledgeable in my empowerments to make the most powerful fuckhouse of magic out here. Maybe individual Prowess options are better than taking Empowerment, but not if you have 4 Champions and two enchanted equipment choices. In my case, I have enchanted armor and sword with all my Empowerments. Also? 4 Champions.

Okay lets whip up how fighting everything coming to fuck me up is going to work:

Treasure is not as important because the Undead Complication makes the nobles flee the land, leaving only bandits and scattered peasants. The complications I got only mean that some of them have come under my wing, and they're mostly non-peasants. My Soldiers should quickly collect them into my realm and bring under my benevolent protection so I can strip the Undead Lich of possible corpses. My Realm is Large, so I don't suspect anything too bad will happen even if we get more people into my realm.

As for the Whispers, I have a pretty big magical force.

I shall remind you that my Empowerment of Post too long. Click here to view the full text.

"human beings matching the *buttons* criteria" would mean that those humans are matching both buttons at the same time.

"human beings matching the *button* criteria" means that each button is taken individually. And this is what the image says.

> mall

Best way to hack this is to get yourself hired by a rich bloke who pays you a multi-million dollar salary for doing some pointless task, in exchange for buying all paintings by famous artists which have ever been sold at auction and giving them to him, as well as ancient artifacts and shit.

> the stash

Spelling error, probably? Should "Its technology permits it, virtual sex" be "If technology permits it"?

What would happen if I ask for "explaining the solution to quantum gravity porn"? Either it gets information from elsewhere to fill in the gaps of my shitty imagination, or it's limited to my shitty imagination and therefore shit.

> Ask away

First, write a compression algorithm optimised for grand advice, and mentally commit to engaging in a certain decision tree upon receiving the message. Then ask:

"What is the best answer you can give me to this question?" [where "best" is to be more carefully defined as representing my interests and wishes, as per standard wish lawyering].

4000-8000 bits of unadulterated optimised information. At least that would be a solution to quantum gravity, and at best a roadmap to building a superintelligent AI which represents my interests and takes over the universe for me.

> SimEarth

Hold the world hostage, writing out your demands in columns of fire. Kill world leaders and terrorist organisations who don't cooperate with tornadoes which appear out of nowhere. Set cities ablaze until war weariness sets in. Deter migrants from entering Europe by destroying camps and making tornados off the coast of Lesbos. Essentially, become god emperor.

> Death Note

Polite of them to let you get away with it. Does this mean you can pretty much do it out in the open? Have a rich guy bequeath all his money to me, and then croak?

While this generation of world leaders would be doomed, the next could easily switch to pseudonyms, making you powerless. CouldPost too long. Click here to view the full text.

> Music Box

Multi-millionaire, comfy.

> The Flag

Getting assassinated simulator.

> Skype

Range unclear. If close range, mind reading is the only thing of note, but still a lot less useful than godtube. Mostly interesting for the roleplaying aspects, not for any practical applications.

> Check box

More limited SimEarth, minus needing intimidation to sway the populace. Nice if you want to viscerally experience being a criminal, though you may just be killed illegally.

> The Mic

Imposter syndrome induced depression and suicide, coming right up. Possibly a neat option for sociopaths.

> The Erection

This is the single most powerful app to date. It has time travel, unlimited range, the power to paralyse and even kill. Especially if you can't kill yourself by giving your grandma an erection, this is godlike.

Find a series of photos of crowds from the same source, for example a series of WW2 rallies. Pause at a shot of the crowd. Divide the crowd into blocks. Give each block an erection or not, using a code, for example: –..—..—–..——-. The existence of women in these blocks will make the event noteworthy, and may be enough to have people at the time piece together the existence of a message, i.e. the prime numbers. Check historical records whether this was in fact discovered.

If so, they'll be on the lookout for the next message. Go to the next photograph in the series. Using smaller blocks, send a prime number series, followed by morse code "SIGNAL THRG ERECTIONS REQ PHOTOS IN 2015". In response to this, they'll hopefully make a neat, clear photo series for easy communications.

Then, using blocks of 4 people, tell them of the situation and start giving them information. You'll be able to read their conclusionsPost too long. Click here to view the full text.

The utility of E-Tank varies a lot based on whether you can transfer these apps to multiple machines. If I can keep back-up copies of E-Tank on lots of different machines, and buy new ones to copy it onto as old ones break, then this is awesome, I'm set at least until computer technology changes so radically that basic file directories are no longer a thing. If it's only on my current machine, well fuck, this thing's gonna be gone in like fifteen years even if I take extremely good care of it, so that barely even makes a difference.

>You certainly have the power of the First Vampire

Not what the CYOA says. CYOA says I am the first vampire. Now, this CYOA is generally pretty sloppily constructed, but did the OP forget that the player is the first vampire when statting hunters, or did he mean "progenitor vampire" when he said "first vampire?" Well, unless he shows up to clarify, what he said was first vampire. How do hunters find out how to kill something that doesn't exist yet? Who the fuck knows, but the bounty hunter doesn't, because he's only described as being prepared for magic users.

Even ignoring that, he's an orc in a non-orc city incredibly densely packed with skeletons under orders to kill any orcs they see, because there was an orc invasion. The skeletons probably can't kill him, but they are damn well going to alert things that can kill him to his presence, including my ghost, which can follow him around without making any noise until he's in my citadel, then give away his position to my living armour, my brides, plus any death knights or my apprentice who might happen to be around.

>They could entrap a important guest in the ship so you were forced to use your skeletons on them.

I have a few flaws to point out in the orcs' "trap someone on a boat" plan. The first flaw is Godzilla. The next couple of flaws are also Godzilla. Even if their fleet manages to actually get close enough to the docks to actually capture anyone, and even if they happen to be around when an important guest is at shore rather than in my city, and even if this guest happens to be so important that I can't torch the entire ship and tell his homeland that the orcs killed him, then I can just fry all their support ships with Godzilla and then have my navy storm the ship with the guest.

>You're in a City in the Sky.

If someone's going to revise the CYOA, in addition to what's already been mentioned, please change the complications so that the size of their army is #1 explicit (there's no indication whatsoever how big the monster invasion or king's army actually is, which makes it hard to plan for) and #2 not dependent on the size of your own army or population. The way desert and tundra are the only ones who get bigger populations is weird to begin with, but the way they get double-fucked over by nasty invasion is bullshit. Likewise, the way the lich's army size is tied to your own. It's basically telling anyone who bought the swarms of weak soldiers instead of small cohorts of strong ones to fuck off because the enemy's army is arbitrarily as large as yours.

Also, the population is ridiculous small and seems to have been set under the impression that most or all of a population can be mobilized for war. The actual number of people who can be mobilized for war is somewhere in the neighborhood of 5-20%, depending on various factors, which means that the 400 rebelling peasants in the tier two revolt option is literally your entire available militia under the very best circumstances.

Posting a WIP to get some feedback.

The idea is that with bigger size comes way more resources but with small size and concentrated magic you unlock really cool combinations that the bigger choices just can't get.

Eventually the ambition is to let you design a final boss stage, a dungeon crawl or a city. I'm not sure how yet, I'm adding stuff as it comes to mind and wondered if maybe anybody had any suggestions.

Who knows, I have a few ideas.

Dark Temple

"A quick prayer, a small sacrifice to mischievous gods does more good than harm, but should the temple be ransacked you will face dire consequences"

Cursed Artifact

"A holy relic, by another name. Since they're part of goblin lore and folklore they are worth more than a normal artifact, but also tend to attract attention of more orthodox men of the divine forces."

Goblin King's regalia

"Protecting the Goblin King's personal regalia is perhaps a risky way of getting more resources. You will get grand amount of resources, but also the attention of expert thieves, assassins, and other money seekers, and failure to defend the King's equipment carries hefty penalties."

I really wanted to describe them for whatever reason, sorry if I'm doing most of your work here.

Just wanted to say that I am working on this sporadically.

I'm really thinking about the goblin's king regalia. It should be a super high level object with a high barrier to stop you from taking it twenty times but without it being the main quest of adventurers. Because what are looters going to do with some ceremonially significant treasure?

Maybe it's actual gods coming after it.

I'm torn. On the one hand, I'd REALLY REALLY like to get My Documents just because it'd be nice to be able to re-watch school/college courses without having to pay for them again, and of course fap over shotacon memories. But I honestly feel as if I'd wallow in nostalgia all damn day, and wasting more time in my life is something I don't want to do. So as pleasurable as it would be, I can't do it.

So I'll go with the one that will save me time, which is Task Scheduler. It's honestly like adding eight extra hours to every day of your life provided you have boring stuff to do. For me, it would be most helpful with writing. Every chapter of a novel requires about eight hours for me to write. One for prep work like research or outlining; three for actually physically writing it; and four for editing, proofreading, checking sources, combing for plot holes, etc. All of that mindless stuff like making sure the sentences are grammatically correct and fixing spelling/continuity mistakes can be done while I sleep or if I'm just not in the mood for it but need to get it done. I'll essentially be able to double my daily productivity, and that's powerful.

Either the command prompt, or the calculator, i can handle the rest for myself.

I'd side with the command prompt because super-intelligence + immortality + look like whoever I want sounds nicer than unlimited monies.

I'm going to take a gamble and go with minesweeper. It is the only one which provides you with information nobody has. Which means that it can be used to discover new facts, if you can get your heart up for it. And I for one am pretty confident that I can get myself excited at the notion of discovering the laws of quantum gravity, or difficult mathematical proofs.

But anon, how do you go about doing that? It's simple: mapping. There is a physical library in my university containing many mathematical equations. I want to solve physics, which means I want to find the best equation to start from in the library, which is in a certain exact location. Having found it, I want the location of the next equation or phrase I can best use towards the end goal of solving physics. And the next, and the next, until I solve physics using a couple dozen games of minesweeper.

Theoretical physics is nice, but what about applicable FTL? What about AI? Functional 3D printers? Maglev trains? Mecha robots? Cure for cancer? Anything which can be constructed from elements which can be physically and spatially represented, which should be everything as far as I'm aware, can be built using the minesweeper system. Which basically gives me omniscience at a rate of about 1kb/minute.

That is, if I manage to want each of those elements truly and more than anything else. But having such an ability would be world-breakingly awesome. If there is anything in the world which would enable me to have that kind of control in order to make me that awesome, that would be what I want most. So even if I don't have that level of control, I would soon get it.

If this exploit works, which rules as writ it should, it is the most powerful of all the options by far. It should even detect threats against my life, since I very much wish to stay breathing. Superintelligence and immortality for yourself are nice, but providing that for the entire world?

Why, there is nothing I would want more.

Alright, let's break these down.

Paint: Fun, but not very helpful. Art doesn't sell very well so you'd have to spend a lot of time both in paint churning out large numbers of paintings (even at just three or four minutes per painting) plus exactly the same amount of time as non-magic artists on actually finding people who want to buy your stuff.

Wordpad: A little bit better than Paint because books and blogs still sell and plus they help you get ideas out into the world in a way that paintings don't. Still, mostly just an awesome toy rather than a life-changer.

Internet Explorer: Only useful under limited circumstances, circumstances any given reader is unlikely to ever be in. Sure, if you want to go into corporate or international espionage this'll make things way easier, but most of us don't want to worry about getting assassinated. It doesn't help that the connection is explicitly unsecure, not to mention unreliable.

Command Prompt: Really getting somewhere now. This gives you excellent health and while it's not explicitly stated, it seems like you can use it to reset your age. Keeping immortality under wraps so you don't get kidnapped by very wealthy/powerful people who want your secret is always a concern, but so long as you're not completely reckless you should be able to manage.

Calculator: Even without the program randomly changing notation, the fact that this doesn't help you avoid suspicion at all means that, much like Internet Explorer, it's only helpful if you already intended to make a career out of fraud. Skipping one dangerous, difficult step of a job that has multiple dangerous, difficult steps isn't really a big win because most of us are going to walk away from that job anyway.

My Documents: Very limited utility except to people in very specific circumstances. The photographic memory is a neat trick, but come on.

Minesweeper: So if you're piniPost too long. Click here to view the full text.

I particularly dislike "choose 1" CYOAs. There's really nothing creative you can think about, no combinations or builds, it's just "which would you rather".

The best CYOAs have a huge selection of options with both positive and negative costs that I can piece together to form a build where the positives balance the negatives while the negatives add flavor and "challenge". After that, the setting should be familiar enough that I can spend time imagining how life would go on under the effects of the CYOA, so ideally real-life modified by whatever event allowed the CYOA to happen to begin with.

This whole board is "pick one" cyoas, no wonder it's so dead.

 No.1485

>>1483

Well, if there were multiple instances of "choose one", then you do have a build.

Personally, I really hate a CYOA where you have to keep a tally of "points" spent. It seems so artificial and contrived. There's never a decent in-universe reason why you're limited to this number of points and how the heck some things give points back.

 No.1509

>>1483

Chose 1 CYOAs are fun if there's some reason for you to be in competition with others who've picked. Then you have to consider all the other options not just for how you can use them, but how they can be used against you.

"Meta" CYOAs, or CYOAs which allow you to use other already-existing CYOAs.

Its a cheap trick, drop it.

People who just post a list of options selected without any kind of elaboration on why or what they'd plan on using it for. Even one or two sentences makes the difference between actual content and wasted bandwidth.

Stating the amount of pages and the order in the bottom of the CYOA picture is a smart decision, should be included in more CYOAs.

So what is this build? Well, I am a god of death hell-bent on using titanic, quickly regenerating x3, almost unkillable, undead monstrosities to strike down the beasts that attack my future followers. My (more) beautiful avatar stands aside the Leader, my (more) undead avatar stands beside my hero. My underworld is an idealised version of the one that seems to be doomed. My followers learn great magic and are granted places to call upon my minions. There is a massive wall that keeps the monsters out of the places I saved and slowly devours more and more of the world until I am finally the supreme god that bested the apocalypse. In the places where the monsters have prevailed I will seed terrible plagues to thin out their herds. Wherever my avatars stand the people will be healed and filled with hope. 5 Underworld Points.

Organic, Realm Guardians, Citadel, Steward.

There we go.

I am the Eldritch Abomination born form the City of the Gods, a Paradise. Knowing that I can't beat the other gods nor convert more people to my cause at such a state, I have chosen Worldgate to be able to infiltrate other worlds and begin my conversions and sacrifices here in my name. The Cultists will certainly be curious to learn about other worlds and thus will be my prime subject. I shall mutate and use him. He shall be instructed to tell people he captures about me, giving me power through both Fear and Knowledge perks, then finally sacrifice them to me, to which my power shall expand even more. If possible, they shall do this near a monument, bringing the whole process to maximum efficiency possible, and making me grow much faster.

While the two Cultists travel between realms, I shall prepare the child. He shall write small histories about my power as I influence him, making me a little tale within the City of the Gods, in preparation of my reign.

My ultimate goal will be the conquering the World I was spawned in, plunging it to chaos and despair.

Some good rolls. Superhuman strength and ultra agility are hard to beat.

>>839

Sort of weird how twin soul gives you 2 times 70 percent of the stats but you're still supposed to be only as powerful as one normal girl

Still, this one has it all worked out, a job, some income, no problems with police investigations

definitely a support role though, should definitely be looking for a team up

>>841

High magic is useful for a ranger, you need it for ammo, but how much can you really buff that third eye?

Let's hope that luck means something good because imo you're a big fat target

>>855

That's just OP, combined with the dark theme and the monster allies I sense a great villain

>>864

What a scale-back, I have to remind myself it's not that bad a roll per se, but there's no stand out super stat

at least power of friendship is somewhat protagonist-y

>>888

You rolled one of the higher possible ages and then got well-developed with it. You're probably the fanservice character.

Not to mention probably not very competent but lucking through anything. (probably can't get hurt by miss darkness's death curse)

you only need to miss your killing blow once to be royally screwed but that probably never happens

Should have gone with magic for your weapon

Age

Nat 1. Right away I know I have to spend a silver, 'cause I don't wanna be 7. Let's call it 15.

Body Development

2, underdeveloped. Well not what I was hoping for, but I'm not burning any more coins on it.

Specialization

4, Earth. Dollomancy? I can dig it. +2 vit and +1 magic. I would've preferred an agi boost because that shit keeps me alive, but we'll see if I have coins left over at the end.

Weapons

7, Ranged. Ha, awesome, finally landed on what I wanted. I'm going to have a giant gun that is made out of and can be broken down into smaller guns.

Outfit

19, Uniform. I was hoping for more agility boost, but vitality helps keep me alive too, and I like the look of this one better. I'll call it a win. I'm gonna roll with something like the male SEED uniform from FFVIII, but with a more bone white, ghosty color scheme. Transformation phrase will be "Ghost powers activate!"

Magical powers

13, shadow clones. Hell yes, that's one of the best ones on here, except for maybe killing blow or regeneration.

Perks

6, interdimensional home. Hot damn, that solves the "how'm I gonna take care of myself" problem I was grappling with.

3, +2 Vit. Damn, I'm turning into a tank here.

>>Inner mages spend all their time training

>>Nature mages spend all their time alone in wilderness

>The real choice is between the other three, and in the context of "an incoming war".

You spend all your time training as an inner "mage" to move faster than the eye can see and literally blow holes in people's chests with merely a punch. You can't fry the mind of/drain/teleport what you can't see coming.

 No.1331

Actually, I dismissed Inner and Nature for personal choices (I don´t want to spent all my life training or alone), and then I used the war context to compare the other three.

I didn´t express clearly, my fault. Anyway,

>You can't fry the mind of/drain/teleport what you can't see coming.

Having the best soldiers doesn´t make you win a war. Having the best thinkers and leaders, and field advantages, does it.

An army capable of access any information, control the key persons, monitorizing enemy bases, or go anyway without restriction, versus an army that simply has supersoldiers, is not even a fight.

even if you're fast and stronger there's probably someone who's faster and/or stronger

you can't just terrify a group of dragons alone to do work for you, they'll probably just kill you on the spot and even with majesty you'd need some kind of political power to actually get the dragon-people on your own side
