Yeah, they kinda are. The main pain of it is that every school has their own app format so you have to put in all the same information over and over again. You also have to deal with getting transcripts and recommendation letters in and any other documents they may want. Most also want a statement of purpose which details what you have done so far, what you want to do, why you are applying to their school, future plans and motivations, etc. That thing carries a lot of weight from what I've been told. Some make you pay to apply too, which is just great!

Three subjects stick out in my mind as real stinkers: Criminal Law, Land Law and Equity and Trusts Law. The study of all three is mandatory to become a lawyer in England and Wales.
Criminal Law was terrible because it involved a lot of memorisation of cases, and I think I've made it clear that my memory isn't very good. The exam was also the single hardest out of the lot.
Land Law delved into a lot of minute details of the substantive law regarding property ownership and rights of tenants, 3rd parties, creditors etc.
Equity and Trusts is one of the subjects I'm studying at the moment, and it makes no bloody sense whatsoever. It's a separate body of law which is supposed to serve the principles of justice and fairness over the strict enforcement of the law, but that makes it hard to see where the boundaries are. It's a very confusing subject which makes my head spin.
Special mention goes to IP Law which I just find terribly uninteresting. Trademarks, Copyrights, Patents, you get the idea.
On the other hand, I loved studying Comparative Law, which takes various legal systems from around the world and compares them. I found very interesting, and it was the subject where I was the highest scoring student.

You are correct. As far as my astrophysics courses go I have enjoyed them all. The one thing I enjoyed the least was one class where we had to clean up (technical term is "reducing") some images from a telescope. There is a bunch of stuff you have to do to get some actual science out of raw data and I didn't care for it. The standard programs used to do this aren't user friendly, but nobody has made a better free alternative.
For more general physics, electricity and magnetism has been a drag. The subject itself is cool, but the problems almost always involve some messy calculus that is just a pain to do. The results for all the work are never that interesting either. You essentially know what will happen based on the configuration you are given. There are a few equations that tell you everything you need to know pretty much, and the E/M fields don't behave in complicated ways. So it is just a grind to get the actual solution. Other areas have grinds too, but they usually have more interesting outcomes to me at least.
