"We Should Not Have Done It": Thiel Breaks With Trump Over Iran War, Warns America May Not "Have The Hard Power"

One day after we reported that Donald Trump Jr. has privately broken with his father over the Iran war, Peter Thiel, the PayPal and Palantir (PLTR) co-founder who was the first big tech investor to back Trump in 2016 and the biggest funder of super PACs behind JD Vance's 2022 Senate run, has also drawn a line in the sand over Trump's defining foreign-policy gamble.

In audio from an Oct. 12 private lecture in Nashville obtained by Decoded by POLITICO (Calder McHugh), Thiel told the room:

"I'm skeptical of [the war], I think we should not have done it. There were a lot of mistakes that were made."

"Maybe we don't have the hard power. Maybe we're going to lose the soft power war."

In other words, one of the architects of the MAGA-tech alliance now thinks the war was a mistake and that America may not be strong enough to finish it. The scoop crossed overnight:

Per Politico, Thiel spent much of the lecture on what he called the unchecked power of the International Criminal Court, drawing on Rumsfeld and Cheney, and then said this:

"I read the Cheney family's Trump derangement syndrome as an attempt to buy favor with the [International Criminal Court] and avoid prosecution. Probably too late… And I have come to suspect that the threat of an ICC arrest warrant is the sword of Damocles hanging over the Trump administration as it tries to persecute this war in Iran."

("Persecute" is the word in Politico's transcript. We assume he meant "prosecute," though at this point in the war, who knows.) Translation: the president's most cerebral backer is publicly speculating that Trump officials face war-crimes exposure. Very reassuring.

Thiel also recounted a meeting with Benjamin Netanyahu in early 2024, after Oct. 7, in which he asked about Israel's plans for Gaza. According to Thiel, Netanyahu replied: "I can't just Dresdenize it," a reference to the Allied firebombing that killed roughly 25,000 people.

Millions of Palestinians living under Israeli control have been stripped of their ability to vote in the upcoming parliamentary election that will shape their lives, RT correspondent Charlotte Dubenskij reports.

Ahead of the October 27 vote, Dubenskij visited East Jerusalem and the occupied West Bank to examine Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s description of Israel as the Middle East’s “only true democracy.”

In East Jerusalem, which Israel captured in 1967 and later annexed in a move rejected by the UN, many Palestinians hold permanent residency rather than Israeli citizenship. They pay taxes, social security, and VAT, but cannot vote for the Knesset, Israel’s parliament.

“We are really helpless, voiceless,” one resident told RT. Another described the frustration of facing the consequences of an election without being able to influence it.

Although Palestinian residents who obtain Israeli citizenship can vote, those who spoke to RT opposed taking that step, arguing it would amount to recognizing Israeli sovereignty.

In the West Bank, around three million Palestinians live with Israeli control over key aspects of their daily lives, including movement and construction. Area C, covering roughly 61% of the territory, remains under full Israeli control.

Palestinian politician Mustafa Barghouti argued that the occupation and different legal systems applied to Palestinians and Israeli settlers contradict Israel’s democratic claims.

“Two different laws for two people in the same area is nothing but the description of apartheid,” he told RT.

Jared Kushner’s Phone Was Hacked — It Exposed An Alleged $2 Billion Foreign Money Web

A Vanity Fair excerpt from an upcoming book alleges that Russian military intelligence hacked former Trump White House senior adviser Jared Kushner’s phone, exposing purported access to Middle Eastern bank accounts holding at least $2 billion.

The article, published Thursday, was an exclusive excerpt from a book written by Matthew Cole entitled “Princes and Thieves: Jared Kushner and Mohamed bin Zayed’s Secret Plot to Remake the Middle East.”

The excerpt said that sometime between 2017 and 2018, Russian military intelligence was able to hack Kushner’s phone.

After Dutch intelligence arranged for British authorities to apprehend a Russian military intelligence operative and offered him the choice of cooperating against the Russians or facing arrest, the operative gave the Dutch access to a Russian intelligence server containing screenshots of Kushner’s iPhone. Dutch intelligence later developed its own method of monitoring Kushner’s screen as he used his phone.

Cole alleged that Kushner had access to “Alpha” and “Beta” bank accounts connected to leaders of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Saudi Arabia.

The Alpha account was allegedly held at the UAE’s largest bank and overseen by the bank’s chairman, the brother of Mohamed bin Zayed (MBZ), the president of the UAE.

The author wrote that $750 million was transferred into the Alpha account, which Kushner and MBZ would oversee and partially manage as part of an effort to strike a deal to end the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

“Jared was looking for shortcuts in his diplomacy,” a source who had spoken with both UAE and Israeli officials about the account reportedly told Cole, adding that this style was typical of Emirati and Saudi leaders. “Jared promised MBZ that he’d push their agenda with Trump if they participated in a fund. He wanted normalization with Israel so that business could take off.”

Dutch intelligence traced the funds to an Azerbaijani government-linked bank account that sent hundreds of millions of dollars to a Dubai account, according to Cole.

“Regardless of whether he was a signatory or the owner, Jared was required by federal government regulations and the Internal Revenue Service to disclose his access to the account,” Cole wrote. “Unless disclosed to and approved by the US government and reported on his tax returns, Kushner’s access to the Alpha account may have violated US law.”

By spring 2018, the Beta account had moved about $1 billion to Israel through Azerbaijan for Kushner, Cole wrote, alleging that someone who knew about the money told him it was for Kushner’s personal benefit.

One source reportedly told Cole that the money had been transferred in “significant amounts” to individuals including a warlord, a mercenary and a former hit man.

Kushner rejected these accusations, calling Cole’s claims “completely insane, categorically false, and never happened.”

Kushner said he has denied each claim and said the author has failed to present any substantial evidence, including bank statements, wire transfer records, account numbers, transaction dates, or other verifiable details.

Kushner added he was “one of the most scrutinized people in the world” during the time of the alleged accounts, noting that despite media coverage, congressional investigations and a special counsel investigation, none of these allegations have ever surfaced.

“These are outrageous fabrications being presented as investigative journalism,” Kushner said. “This is not journalism. It is a mixture of fantasy, fiction, and advocacy, written by someone who is either deeply disturbed or acting with sinister intent.”
