Guess they're only a few months away from some sort of release.

 No.16259

It's in closed alpha for professional Maya users apparently, not sure if they'll be doing a beta at some point but I would guess maybe some time around the Oculus/HTC VR headset releases next year if we're lucky.

Only saying that as there's no pictures yet, they're being really secretive about it and I doubt they'd want to beta without the full feature set, and for what it is it probably it's probably a lot of work.

Fucking hell LL, it's just going to be used by furries and brazilian men to get their rocks off, calm it with the buzzwords.

>implying Brazilians can afford an oculus rift or anything like it.

Also the hardware specs required for this are gonna be much higher than SL so I predict an 80% decrease in Brazilians.

Furries tho,nah most of them are rich degenerate 1st worlders with autism, they're gonna stay for good.

I bet my ass the first thing getting created for Project Sansar is a dong.

The great question is if it's gonna be a furry or human dong.

 No.16265

I'm going to reserve judgment until the alpha people start posting on their blogs

The first thing created for it will be unrigged meshes ported over, stuff like furniture.

I hope the bone hierarchy stays largely the same so rigged stuff can easily be ported aswell.

They signed NDA, that's all I've heard about it, I don't think most of them if any have even played Second Life.

>>16266

I'd guess they'd allow custom skeletons, as the whole point of making a new platform was so they could get past the limits and constraints of their existing platform without breaking everything. You could probably import the LL one anyway, if you wanted that garbage.

So what are the chances they try too hard to suppress lewd to the dark corners of the new game in an attempt to escape SL's reputation as a virtual sex simulator, and how hard is it going to kill their conversion rate when they try it?

 No.16406

When asked about adult activities in Sansar they specifically said they plan to cater to all their current customers. So the chances are low but still possible.

Found a new-ish article

http://geekdad.com/2015/10/project-sansar/

Also, anybody curious about how they plan on doing the supposed "free land" mentioned in a few of them?

My best guess would probably be something like the size of all those premium homes currently in SL :v

 No.17203

>>17200

Everyone gets free land and all sales are "taxed" by the Lab because of it.

 No.17213

>>17203

From what I heard, the possible tax won't be much different from what marketplace already takes

 No.17287

>>17200

If this is really what they're going for, they're already destined to fail. This is exactly what Blue Mars tried to do and it sucked balls because of it.

Second Life 2.0 is exactly what they need to make, so I hope they have a fucking contingency plan.

 No.17341

The question remains

How hype should I be?

 No.17343

>>17341

Not hype. Hype makes you enjoy things less when they come out.

 No.17357

>>17341

Atm for me, it's mostly curiosity to see how it turns out.

Not a whole lot of hype that can be had with so little information or visuals to see how it looks so far.

 No.17358

>>17357

>>17341

Course I am hopeful it does turn out good and can survive as an alternative to SL.

If that "experience" thing they added into SL is anything to go by for what they have planned with Sansar, I see a lot of potential in it for some pretty nifty games and such.

Plus, if people are able to own land larger than the confined square boxes we have now for regions, just imagine the possible RP/combat/etc themed places people could make!

 No.17505

I've already put a lot of work into SL, can I just have my stuff ported over?

 No.17506

>>17505

Everything you own is shit anyway, it's SL. Dinosaur outlooks like this are why texture clothes still exist.

 No.17508

>>17505

Not unless you're the creator of the stuff, most likely. And that's good. To make it so that SL stuff would port over would severely degrade the quality of Sansar from the get go.

 No.17511

>>17511

I hope they'll have some system in place to heavily discourage people from uploading mess like this so that they'll actually have to git gud, while also hoping it won't be too restrictive for the rest of us still learning with some decently moderate skills by comparison.

I've seen people suggest to add a "land Impact" styled system for avatar attachments in SL, which honestly might actually be useful to help encourage content creators to get better at optimizing their shit so there's less picture related be it in the form of mesh, scripts or even texture,

[Your microscopic peircings don't need a 1024x1024 texture]

 No.17524

>>17521

They're planning on having systems in place so things they are uploaded will work well and look good on vr devices, meaning everything has to run at, I believe, 120 fps or better on current setups.

 No.17526

>>17521

The upload cost formula was supposed to prevent this. However the formula was easily broken by setting the LODs to nothing.

 No.17553

>>17526

even without that trick ultra-high poly meshes were a maximum of 1000 L$ which is nothing when you sell your 150k tri blingscripted ring at 500 spacebucks. they get the upload money back just selling two copies of that shit

 No.17671

>>17524

80 fps per eye, 160 total.

 No.17692

>>17671

that's not how it works, the resolution is split down the middle

 No.17827

>>17521

Making attachments a limited resource for the actual consumers is probably the best way to get people to make reasonable avatar attachments. Just look at the render weight of furniture vs jewelry in SL. Of course that partially depends on them actually getting a workable way of detecting it.

 No.18500

The prim limit was made worse by how wasteful each plot was. LL sometimes has no idea what they're doing.

A couple of years back there was a premium gift that was an airship.. that couldn't be easily flown around and couldn't fit in a completely bare LL premium plot.

I finally managed to get in a question abotu adult content in Sansar

"E: not completely finalized but there will be content ratings in the beginning... the platform will be flexible to meet needs it is not that we wont allow, but we wont focus on adult."

"No plans to disallows"

>NO PLANS TO DISALLOW

 No.20921

>>20874

They would've killed their playerbase off before the game even launched if they banned adult stuff.

Now we just need to make sure the modding and editing tools are robust, and don't get shit on by copyright concerns.

 No.20924

Ebbe had another talk.

http://blog.nalates.net/2016/03/10/ebbes-speech-shaking-things/

It looks like Sansar is being rolled out as something distinct and separate from SL and isn't precisely intended as its own 'virtual world.' It will have its own currency with an exchange between it and SL. It will not have a live editing function either, instead having some form of production mode for the entire sim and a publish mode for the entire sim.

Looks like their solution to the issue of potentially losing their user base with the massive hardware requirements will have (to the perception of your average LL bodied/no ALM peasant) is to simply regard them as two separate products which will require support in parallel.

 No.20928

>>20924

>It will not have a live editing function either, instead having some form of production mode for the entire sim and a publish mode for the entire sim.

I'm not entirely sure what that entails, but if ends up making user modding more difficult, they're shooting themselves in the foot.

 No.20929

>>20928

Probably for baked in texture shit, better physics culling and such, environment maps for reflections and other shit I can't remember that's pretty much standard nowadays. It's probably for all performance reasons.

Not sure why they didn't bother going into any detail into it, WordPress is such a retarded example.

 No.20931

>>20929

That's pretty much exactly what he said, yeah. Besides the Wordpress thing, which I agree is dumb, but I think it's just how he's able to comprehend it. Ebbe himself isn't too technically inclined, if I had to guess, but he seems to be doing a decent job of listening to those that are. I might be wrong, but that's what I gather, and really that's all I ask of his position, to know who to listen to and when.
