Gachas are ruining SL and should be banned.

this gacha stuff seems like some kinda scam every time I hear about it. Everybody I know who has gotten involved is just stuck perpetually trying to sell all of the crap they've piled up.

It pretty much is. There's no such thing as scarcity when it comes to virtual goods, so it's just artificial scarcity, which is just shitty on the part of the creators, since it'd be just as easy to make something copy+mod and stick it in their regular store. It just wouldn't make them as much money.

Even LL's land prices are (slightly) more justifiable than making gachas, because at least with land prices, there's an actual scarcity involved (cost of server/upkeep, although it's way less than they charge), and one that couldn't just be removed in two clicks.

it's quite fun if you don't mind getting any of the things on the list. they're generally pretty cheap so you can get a nice piece of decor or a bicycle for pretty cheap.

you can usually find the non-rare items on the MP for a little more than the cost of playing the gacha. the rares are generally quite expensive, which is really annoying when _black_ is the fucking rare color.

it's definitely artificial rarity, and some people might be put off by that. i personally find it fun as you can collect stuff and put it on a shelf in your house or whatever.

Gachas are very cheap, if you keep playing to get a specific item it's only your own fault.

People keep putting outfits in gachas. Or things that basically require you to win every item in the gacha for any of it to work. And of course the perms have to be no copy and usually no mod, which is utter crap. And the majority of store owners do not allow trade ins for better perms.

If gachas were solely used for trinkets like plushies and such, like they are in real life, it would be fine. But in SL they've become just a way for greedy store owners to prey on the weak minded for more money.

The saddest thing is is that it works.

I think there are definitely some pretty shitty gacha sets out there. Trinkets, accessories, vehicles, etc are great for gachas, but it's shitty to try and get someone to keep playing to get a working item.

As for the perms, I hate having them no copy. No mod I can live with, even if it's not ideal. I haven't experienced inventory loss yet so my fingers are crossed.

You see the same shit when people criticize mobile microtransaction games as a business mode in mobage threadsl over on 2x2chan.

That said, as a non-gambler, gachas occasionally provide me with exceptionally cheap decent quality stuff because of people playing constantly the get the rares. So I ultimately benefit from their exploitation.
