The thing is I like Trump but I'd really hate for him to become president. He seems to bring up his Christianity with increasing frequency, which might empower Christian influence in conservative/reactionary circles just when this influence has been in decline for a while. Pretty nice mane, I think I saw that one somewhere online and was tempted to grab it. The Irminsul is a pretty hipster piece of heathen iconography to wear, compared with mjolnir or the valknut. Once, on holiday in Berlin, I saw some guy with a mjolnir pendant, and he saw me. I assumed he was German and my German at the time was even suckier than it is now, and he likely didn't want to assume that I was German given the tourist-filled place we were at, so neither of us said anything but we gave each other a nod of recognition. Was a cool moment, I worry that if I wore something more obscure, Murphy's law would kick in and I'd happen to walk past some heathen QT who sees my Irminsul, doesn't recognise it, and walks on, whereas in a parallel world in which I wore a mjolnir that day instead, she'd see it, recognise it and start talking to me and we'd end up having 12 kids together some years later.

Welcome home. I came to asatru after 7 years an atheist and then flip-flopping for about 3 months before finding my true falling.

Always kind of flirted with being Asatru since my teens. Wasn't til I studied more that I realize that I felt a sense of belonging. It was like recovering wisdom I used to know but had forgotten everything made sense to me and it was like my soul resonated with the stories.

Stephen Mcnallen calls it a feeling of "Coming Home" which is what I felt when I first started delving into the lore.

I have been a serious Asatruar for ten years now.

I was for the longest time, a militant atheist i was filled with hate towards religion because of my upbringing. But then in my Ancient history class we learned about non-Semitic religions, I appreciated Buddhism (Reincarnation in Buddhism, comes from the same roots as European paganism), and Hinduism (Although modern India is cancer). I did a couple Assignments on the Norse religion, i found it interesting. I'm not sure where i found out that people were practicing this religion today. There was awhile maybe a year where i was agnostic with respect for our ancient faith. Then i became content with being a "Pagan" in my own mind, but i didn't exactly believe it. I didn't really understand the esoteric/metaphors and took things at a base level. But then after lurking on this board and watching vargs videos, that explained things better than most other places, i finally started to properly believe.

I haven't advanced much in religious knowledge lately, i could always learn more but I'm focusing on exercise and studying.

I'm still flirting with the whole thing.

Only reason I haven't made any commitment is because I have no idea who my ancestors are (adopted at birth), so I don't want to go all in only to find out they're not my kin.

I don't think you're turned off, so much as impatient. You forget, while our heritage is thousands of years old, our actual modern moment is only a few decades old at best.

Not completely. I remember in the sagas that an arranged marriage typically had a two-step approval system: the father had to approve, and then the daughter had to approve.

There was also a running theme throughout the sagas that a marriage that went through without the daughters' approval was doomed (the marriage would disintegrate, or the groom would end up dead due to mysterious circumstances, etc.)

Love was also often a theme involved in saga marriages.

One story involved a woman not helping her first husband during a battle, and him dying as a result. Then when she gets married to the man she really wants, she reveals to him a sword that helps him win the battle that she could've given to the first husband (an example of the theme mentioned before.)

I also remember a saga tale of woman's husband being targeted for killing. As the killer was about to attack the husband from behind, his wife cried out "look out behind you!" but was too late. Later on, she lamented that she had lost her lover and her best friend.

There was even an example of a man who had to deal with a bad reputation because he was an ex-slave who won his freedom. There was one passage where he actually employed charisma and Game to win over a woman who was initially hostile to him.

As for which specific sagas these examples come from, it's been forever since I've read them and could not remember off the top of my head to save my life. All I know for sure is that they were all in this collection of sagas that I own:

Ideologically and spiritually i don't fear death. But in order to commit suicide you need to get past some pretty intense survival instincts (They are at a primal level most of us don't understand). You would need depression/stress and strong willpower. I can be indifferent to death, but i don't think i could kill myself. Not unless I incapable mentally or physically because of age or disease.

The number of people that have lived and not had children is more than the number that lived and had children. So either there are shitloads of spirits floating around here, or there. Speaking with someone from here about some comparative study, he said that in Slavic tradition it's quite clearly stated that reincarnation along family lines is a thing. Essentially, if you cannot reincarnate as someone directly descended from yourself, then you reincarnate as someone directly descended from one of your kinsmen; if this is also not possible, then as someone "new" in another family within your race who doesn't have any available ancestors to reincarnate as them. He put forward the somewhat amusing image of their death goddess as fulfilling this impossibly busy desk clerk duty of taking all the dead and organising them as efficiently as possible to get the most possible familial reincarnations and requiring as few new souls as possible. So I was thinking about Frigg and Freya, how they are different yet obviously very similar. I remembered reading somewhere that it is theorized that they were once the same goddess, but became divided and more specialized for some reason. Frigg becoming a goddess associated with traditional domestic duties, while Freya became more of a goddess of the wild.
