>Perhaps the Gods saw it fit for us to become Christian for a while

I respectfully disagree, the Gods don't decide the fate of humans.

Our fate is already woven at birth, and our lives are woven day by day.

The day you take action is the day you were always meant to take action, the gods would have helped if they were meant to.

We, as a people, failed and have to take responsibility for that, we can't go blaming the gods for all that ails us.

 No.9871

Just exactly how much of what Varg says can be taken at face value?

I don't doubt his sincerity, but something is amiss when he cites his own books as source material.

What is to be done about these "anti-racist" faggots polluting the name of heathenry?

This clown posts shit like this, and then even has the nerve to sign his name "Odin."

I am convinced that many of these people are deliberately attempting to take the wind out of the sails of volkish heathenry with this type of garbage.

I'm supporting Donald Trump despite his support for Christianity. I suspect he may be a demigod in human form.

His promotion of nationalism and isolationism may be the answer that not only America, but the Western World needs.

Trump isn't really Christian. The guy can't name his favorite bible verse, misquotes the bible regularly, and doesn't seem to adhere to any articles of the Christian faith.

That said, there does seem to be something divinely inspired about his candidacy. I feel as though he has truly been blessed with a type of divine kingship. I know this sounds crazy, but I can feel it in my soul.

Long live Emperor Trump!

 No.9832

The thing is I like Trump but I'd really hate for him to become president. He seems to bring up his Christianity with increasing frequency, which might empower Christian influence in conservative/reactionary circles just when this influence has been in decline for a while. The christfags on /pol/ are the kind of people who'd benefit from this while many potential heathens might be lost

Pretty nice mane, I think I saw that one somewhere online and was tempted to grab it. The Irminsul is a pretty hipster piece of heathen iconography to wear, compared with mjolnir or the valknut. Once, on holiday in Berlin, I saw some guy with a mjolnir pendant, and he saw me. I assumed he was German and my German at the time was even suckier than it is now, and he likely didn't want to assume that I was German given the tourist-filled place we were at, so neither of us said anything but we gave each other a nod of recognition. Was a cool moment, I worry that if I wore something more obscure, Murphy's law would kick in and I'd happen to walk past some heathen QT who sees my Irminsul, doesn't recognise it, and walks on, whereas in a parallel world in which I wore a mjolnir that day instead, she'd see it, recognise it and start talking to me and we'd end up having 12 kids together some years later.

I don't care how far-fetched such a situation it is, leave a man to his fantasy!

"Óðinn actually sends Heimdallr to Earth to create a better human race. His first attempt is called Trell (Thrall), but he is black, ugly and stupid, so Heimdallr pays no attention to him and keeps trying. The next result is Karl (Free Man), who had red-brown hair, is tall and strong.

He is still not satisfied though, so he keeps trying. Then finally he gets a son called Jarl (Proto-Norse *EirilaR, English Earl), that is fair-eyed, intelligent, beautiful and fair (European).

Heimdallr had finally created a man who is good enough for Óðinn and Valhalla, so he teaches him - and only him - the runes (secrets) of the gods and Valhalla is opened up to his kin. His kin is the only one that will be let over the bridge that leads to Ásgarðr ("the court of the Æsir" or "the yard of the Æsir"). The others will ignite and fall down like rocks if they set their foot on this bridge, that is guarded by Heimdallr."

ITT: Tell us you personal story. Whatever. How you found Asatru, how you

Became convinced this was your path, or its any story you find significant to you personally.

Allow me to tell my own. This literally happened tonight:

>Go outside on my porch with a good bottle of beer

>settle my mind and focus on my ancestors

>hold up the beer and specifically call out to my maternal grandfather as we was my paternal grandmother and grandfather

>I thank them for the sacrifices they made so that I could be as successful as I am

>I tell them I love them

> pour out some beer & take a sip myself

> suddenly feels overwhelming sense of love being directed at me

> at that exact moment, I see the brightest shooting "star" I've ever seen.

>I'm in awe, it was beautiful

>I pour out more beer to my deep ancestors as well as the heroes of old

>take one last sip of beer

>tell my grandparents that I love them and pour out the rest of the beer

This was the most profound experience I've had since coming back to out ancestral faith. I would love to hear any stories you would like to share. Please don't be shy.

Also;

>any lore you might know related to shooting stars & Germanic culture (I could use google, but that defeats the purpose of this community)

 No.9843

Always kind of flirted with being Asatru since my teens. Wasn't til I studied more that I realize that I felt a sense of belonging. It was like recovering wisdom I used to know but had forgotten everything made sense to me and it was like my soul resonated with the stories.

Stephen Mcnallen calls it a feeling of "Coming Home" which is what I felt when I first started delving into the lore.

I have been a serious Asatruar for ten years now.

 No.9846

I was for the longest time, a militant atheist i was filled with hate towards religion because of my upbringing. But then in my Ancient history class we learned about non-Semitic religions, I appreciated Buddhism (Reincarnation in Buddhism, comes from the same roots as European paganism), and Hinduism (Although modern India is cancer). I did a couple Assignments on the Norse religion, i found it interesting. I'm not sure where i found out that people were practicing this religion today. There was awhile maybe a year where i was agnostic with respect for our ancient faith. Then i became content with being a "Pagan" in my own mind, but i didn't exactly believe it. I didn't really understand the esoteric/metaphors and took things at a base level. But then after lurking on this board and watching vargs videos, that explained things better than most other places, i finally started to properly believe.

I haven't advanced much in religious knowledge lately, i could always learn more but I'm focusing on exercise and studying.

 No.9873

I'm still flirting with the whole thing.

Only reason I haven't made any commitment is because I have no idea who my ancestors are (adopted at birth), so I don't want to go all in only to find out they're not my kin.

It seems like their not interested in a religion, just a bunch of faggotry. FUCK. They're not even interested in foreign practices like Datuk Gong, that are highly relevant for this religion.

This board sucks too by the way, I've been reading through a bit, and every fucking page seems to be about racial shit, or mead and other viking shit. Fuck.

No, your options are the made up feelgood hippie bullshit of /r/wiccasatru and places like it or the national socialist völkisch heathenry of here and places like it. Though judging by your OP you didn't really want to discuss anything actually relevant to Asatru so go find some wiccans who will appreciate whatever you think because they'll never say anything is a bad idea (if they could what a bad idea was, they wouldn't be wiccans)

>Racial shit

>Germanic/Norse/Viking shit (like mead)

Is about 80% of what we do here, yes. As a germanic religion for germanic people and all.

See: I'll tell you where you messed up on the off chance you aren't just shitposting. Had you just gone and made a thread about all the different land-spirit shrines of the world (or whatever you wanted to discuss that you feel we haven't touched on) we'd have happily discussed it. We have celts, occasional romans, even the odd discussion about asians.

Our practice is one of being welcoming to guests from all lands and ways. Our practice is also, just as much, one of not allowing guests to pretend they are us, to overstep their bounds or especially to tell us how to do things in our own lands or spaces (in another word, Fríd). This is why you will find nothing but a bad reception having gone about it this way. If you want to try again with that in mind, by all means. I'm not sure if you can delete your own threads here or not.

Where does /asatru/ stand on traditional Islam?

I ask because a friend who had introduced me to politics and Asatru is planning on becoming a Muslim. He says it doesn't conflict with his traditionalist views and in fact supports them. Both Paganism and Islam are worldly, in the Nietzschean sense, in contrast to Christianity which is otherworldly. So basically Asatru and Islam share a common enemy in the Christian, although it still might not be possible for pagans to ally with Muslims.

From Nietzsche:

>If Islam despises Christianity, it has a thousandfold right to do so: Islam at least assumes that it is dealing with men.

>Christianity destroyed for us the whole harvest of ancient civilization, and later it also destroyed for us the whole harvest of Mohammedan civilization. The wonderful culture of the Moors in Spain, which was fundamentally nearer to us and appealed more to our senses and tastes than that of Rome and Greece, was trampled down (—I do not say by what sort of feet—) Why? Because it had to thank noble and manly instincts for its origin—because it said yes to life, even to the rare and refined luxuriousness of Moorish life!… The crusaders later made war on something before which it would have been more fitting for them to have grovelled in the dust—a civilization beside which even that of our nineteenth century seems very poor and very “senile.”

'While both Islam and Asatru can be used to cleanse the West of the Christian virus, including its liberal egalitarianism, it's only in Islam that something is actively being done. Pagans may not gain power soon enough, and it's the Muslims who are doing to Christians what the Christians did to pagans of old. At least this means Muslims cannot raze pagan structures and temples, as there is nothing to raze in the first place.'

This is roughly what my friend says, I'm not sure I fully agree with him and will research this subject further.

>What's turning me off Asatru is it feels like we're wasting our efforts trying to patch together an old torn garment when we have all the material necessary to make a new one.

I don't think you're turned off, so much as impatient. You forget, while our heritage is thousands of years old, our actual modern moment is only a few decades old at best.

You see an old torn garment. I see a complicated disassembled palace that is going to take patience and fortitude to properly put back together.

Using Islam as a foundation is like just hijacking the Islamic palace and slapping Western stickers on it. The Wiccans and New Agers did exactly that, (With Mystery-Christianity as the palace, and Heathenry as the stickers) and look how that turned out.

>1) The Magian form of spirituality is inferior.

Let me rephrase that. The Magian world is in a more shitty situation that the West is.

Islam is the end station for that type of spirituality, a form of fatalism that paralyzes a civilization to the point that we are familiar with; people in Bosnia or Pakistan just exist and consume and breed, without any drive to cultivate something bigger.

So yes, traditional islam does tap into perennial streams of religious thinking, just like every other serious religion. But the destiny of its path leads to stagnation.

However, with the final phase of Western culture, materialism or liberalism or whatever you want to call it, there is still the potential for creative destruction. Remember that Faust gets saved because of his incessant action. Islam just festers on dying civilizations like gangrene until the lights go out.

In other worlds, you're not going to rejuvenate the West with the ossified spirituality of a similarly declining culture.

What does healthy sexuality look like in the context of a Heathen worldview and society?

Obviously it is not the out of control promiscuity of the modern world, but I doubt it's the "beg Jesus for forgiveness for rubbing one out" of Christianity either.

Yet there is not too much I can think of that is written down about sexuality from a Heathen perspective outside of a few definites; like a general frowning down on homosexuality, and women cheating on their spouses having their heads shaven and then driven from the village by whipping.

Yet there are also grey areas such as the existence of brothels, though such things existed throughout most, if not all of traditionalist civilization. Even the Christian, Augustine, famously remarked "If you do away with harlots, the world will be convulsed with lust." Looking at the world around us, I think our ancestors were on to something with that one.

What say you fellow Heathens?

>You were expected to marry young and you had very little say in the matter. Marriage was not for love, it was insignificant. Marriage was for reproduction and political gain.

Not completely. I remember in the sagas that an arranged marriage typically had a two-step approval system: the father had to approve, and then the daughter had to approve.

There was also a running theme throughout the sagas that a marriage that went through without the daughters' approval was doomed (the marriage would disintegrate, or the groom would end up dead due to mysterious circumstances, etc.)

Love was also often a theme involved in saga marriages.

One story involved a woman not helping her first husband during a battle, and him dying as a result. Then when she gets married to the man she really wants, she reveals to him a sword that helps him win the battle that she could've given to the first husband (an example of the theme mentioned before.)

I also remember a saga tale of woman's husband being targeted for killing. As the killer was about to attack the husband from behind, his wife cried out "look out behind you!" but was too late. Later on, she lamented that she had lost her lover and her best friend.

There was even an example of a man who had to deal with a bad reputation because he was an ex-slave who won his freedom. There was one passage where he actually employed charisma and Game to win over a woman who was initially hostile to him.

As for which specific sagas these examples come from, it's been forever since I've read them and could not remember off the top of my head to save my life. All I know for sure is that they were all in this collection of sagas that I own:

Nominate the video you want to see featured in the sticky thread each week, and then vote for the videos posted by you or other users.

Rules:

1) Only one video per user can be added to the thread each week, and only from Monday to Friday. (A nominated video doesn't count as a vote. See below)

2) Each user has 3 votes per week that they can cast on videos posted in the thread. Users can cast a vote on their own nominated video, which would leave them with 2 votes. A user can't vote for one video multiple times. Voting takes place on the weekend. (Don't worry about time zones, just follow your local time zone.)

3) Videos posted must be /asatru/ related, pro-European or folkish.

To cast a vote; just post a link to the video post number in the thread, and say whether it's your first/second/third vote.

The votes are counted the following Monday. If 2 or more videos have the same number of votes; the board owner/volunteer decides the winner.

Ideologically and spiritually i don't fear death. But in order to commit suicide you need to get past some pretty intense survival instincts (They are at a primal level most of us don't understand). You would need depression/stress and strong willpower. I can be indifferent to death, but i don't think i could kill myself. Not unless I incapable mentally or physically because of age or disease.

Well, there is a Saga where the hero and his maiden were mentioned as being reincarnations of themselves.

I don't think i got the idea of "Relatives" from anywhere other than my own mind, but then again i don't know the exact sources that Varg used to imply it was only descendants.

Well considering all the people that die at birth, or did die at birth. Those who cannot have children for this reason or the other. The number of people that have lived and not had children is more than the number that lived and had children. So either there are shitloads of spirits floating around here, or there. Or maybe the criteria for reincarnation is not that specific. I reckon that you would be able to be reincarnated in anyone who is very close to you genetically. The type of genetic similarity that would produce inbred babies.

That sounds rather reasonable, really. Speaking with someone from here about some comparative study, he said that in Slavic tradition it's quite clearly stated that reincarnation along family lines is a thing. Essentially, if you cannot reincarnate as someone directly descended from yourself, then you reincarnate as someone directly descended from one of your kinsmen; if this is also not possible, then as someone "new" in another family within your race who doesn't have any available ancestors to reincarnate as them. He put forward the somewhat amusing image of their death goddess as fulfilling this impossibly busy desk clerk duty of taking all the dead and organising them as efficiently as possible to get the most possible familial reincarnations and requiring as few new souls as possible. A silly image, perhaps, to picture a goddess filling out paperwork at a desk, but it illustrates the point well enough of "you reincarnate in the closest blood-tie available" which may well be just as appropriate to Germanic tradition as Slavic, even if it isn't as explicitly attested.

Not a goddess working in a stuffy office like an "empowered" woman. But a Norn casually weaving, with all the time in the world.

Wanted to see if we could get a thread started that discusses the more Esoteric aspects of the Exoteric Myths.

There have been hints of such concepts in threads here and there, but not really a concentrated thread.

The closest that I've seen of a thread manifesting this concept is Varg Vikernes' videos, but for whatever reason he doesn't give his sources in said videos.

One esoteric theory I've kicked around (and I imagine others have as well) is that Odin's quest for the Runes is at least partially a metaphor for the power of writing and literacy, in addition to magic.

So I was thinking about Frigg and Freya, how they are different yet obviously very similar. I remembered reading somewhere that it is theorized that they were once the same goddess, but became divided and more specialized for some reason. Frigg becoming a goddess associated with traditional domestic duties, while Freya became more of a goddess of the wild.

My research directed me to the likes of Perchta, the White Women, Hulders, Frau Holle and Holda, which I think are pretty obvious to most, as being earlier forms of Frigg/Freya:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holda

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hulder

Nevertheless, I stumbled across this page, which had a particular revelation that, quite frankly, floored me:

"Traditionally, Frau Perchta is believed to be a god-like creator half man, half woman, but usually displayed in its female manifestation. She appears on Earth on the turning point between the old and the new year (winter solstice, matching with Christmas anPost too long. Click here to view the full text.

Also forgot about Waelburga more than likely being a corrupted version of a Germanic goddess:

It's a spiritual death and rebirth of sorts. More knowledge/power is attained, so the old, weak self "dies" and is replaced by a new self that has knowledge and power you didn't previously posses. It's also one of the places where the christcucks nicked their crucified "saviour" from, as well as being "born again".

Perchta and Holle show how incredibly complicated things are. Here is something from a German source:

>The Bercht-Woman (Frau means woman) is the shining woman; we saw, that she is clothed in shining white linen; so it is Frigg, who today still wanders around many castles as "white woman" and is honored as the ancestress of some royal lineage (Fürstengeschlecht); she appears warning her latest offspring, when danger is imminent (for example when an offspring will die, whereby the else white woman apears black or half black; - a memory of Hel as the foundation of Frigga) or when serious crimes were committed.

Considering her heavy connection with spinning, the norns also come to mind.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Three_Spinners

>She appears on Earth on the turning point between the old and the new year

>She was known as a goddess who oversaw spinning and weaving, like myths of Holda in Continental German regions.

>she was sometimes the leader of the Wild Hunt

Fucking hell, so much stuff comes to mind with this. Is Perchta basically the female part of the male Wotan, as they both are the heads of the wild hunt? Does Wotan's knowledge of Seiðr come from this duality? Is that why they are married, to show them as a unit? Is in the end everyone basically a facet of each other? Pls.
