https://www.vulture.com/2019/03/the-simpsons-is-pulling-the-episode-starring-michael-jackson.html

https://archive.li/wybGQ

>Simpsons executive producer James L. Brooks told The Wall Street Journal that the season 3 episode “Stark Raving Dad” will be pulled from circulation. Not only will it be removed from syndication, but the episode will be pulled from streaming services like Fox’s EverySimpsonEver and from all future DVD and Blu-Ray box sets. “The guys I work with—where we all spend our lives arguing over jokes—were of one mind on this,” Brooks said. “It feels clearly the only choice to make. Brooks said that the Simpsons higher-ups were overwhelmingly convinced by the HBO documentary Leaving Neverland, calling the behavior of Jackson “monstrous.” The episode depicts Homer being committed to a mental institution and meeting a man named Leon Kompowsky who is convinced he’s really Michael Jackson. Jackson voiced the character under the pseudonym John Jay Smith. “I’m against book burning of any kind,” said Brooks, “but this is our book and we’re allowed to take out a chapter.”

Fuck me, this is one of my favorite episodes in the Golden Era.

Why are media producers so obsessed with virtue signaling? They're making a statement about an episode that aired almost 30 years ago about a case that happened about 15 years ago regarding a man that died 10 years ago. If they wanted to take a stand, they should have done it when the case was relevant. or if it was ever supported Erasing the episode is pointless considering millions of people own it on DVD, and they're now just going to encourage people who haven't seen it to pirate it.

The episode isn't offensive even if you believe he was a kiddy diddler. They're offended about Michael Jackson just being present in it at all. Hell, Warner Bros. still sells the WW2-era episodes of the Looney Tunes with Hitler and racial stereotypes. (Sure, you get a nigress telling you how bad the episodes are, but at least they weren't censored.)

>>1063269

You're overestimating this. The season 3 DVD has been available for over 15 years. Most people who would want it probably already have it. DVD sales have also dropped significantly over the years in favor of streaming, and Blu-ray to a lesser extent. You can sell an original season 3 with the MJ episode for slightly more due to it being out of print, but it's not going to be rare anytime soon.

possible, if done right. I will be sorely disappointed if Shreeky isn't in it. She was the best thing about the original series and her absence in the coddled 3D 'care-a-lot' series was glaring, though not surprising given how much tamer it all was.

TOS actually dealt with shit like death through barely veiled metaphor (watch sleeping giant ep) and had cute human girls besides shreeky.

If they don't draw the bears cute enough to inspire a decent amount of porn, interaction with the human world could possibly make up for it and it might be a competition between /delicious/ and the furries to see who wins most tributes. I expect if Shreeky is in it she would come out on top but 'girl of the day' chars getting attention is still pretty much exception.

Why was she so bitchy towards the end of the show's run? The writing staff thinking that Margaret needed a college education, therefore mindset alongside being an opinionated mouthpiece out of nowhere was the worst decision that ultimately sank this character for me. It's atrocious, a far cry from what used to be a fun, ditzy coffee girl, who'd on a few occasion we'd get a glimpse of outside her job to whatever lapses of happiness, struggles, or simply mundaneness.

Skimmed though it.

It is 110 pages, with research limitations being a footnote. (Most of it being about privacy laws and the difficulty that comes with tracking how/where firearms move)

Oh yeah, they sure acted on that CDC funded study from 1993 that found that the risk of homicide increased with gun ownership. They took swift action … to ban the CDC from researching gun violence for 18 years.

>It is 110 pages, with research limitations being a footnote.

Data limitations make up an entire chapter of the paper. It's the first chapter that appears after the introduction, and their need for additional data is brought up in nearly every single chapter after that.

It's telling that the Protective Effects of Gun Ownership opens with

>Estimates of gun use for self-defense vary widely, in part due to definitional differences for self-defensive gun use; different data sources; and questions about accuracy of data, particularly when self-reported.

That's not "bending every argument for gun control over". That's "We don't have concrete data for any of this shit."

>Ban three years later

>This means the CDC NEEDS to be able to push my agenda and not doing so is "not telling anyone" about a problem if it is found

<Data limitations make up an entire chapter of the paper.

Short chapter, again with most of which being about privacy laws and tracking firearms. Sorry for the confusion, the restriction for CDC research were a footnote for the chapter.

<their need for additional data is brought up in nearly every single chapter after that.

Brought up in only a handful of chapters.(Mostly with the internet/vidya shit) Unless you are confusing the suggestions for further research with the need for more data. Which would see still if research was not restricted.

<That's not "bending every argument for gun control over". That's "We don't have concrete data for any of this shit."

That has to do entirely with how they collected the data for in that chapter though. This would still be a problem with 20+ years of research as well.

You seem to forget they also found:

>Most firearms deaths being suicide

>70% of firearms used in crime not being obtained through retail

>"Sandy hook" style mass shooting being rare with media focus making people feel unsafe and potentially inspiring copy-cats similar to how media focus on suicide does

>Muh gun ownership makes you more likely to get killed being up in the air, only contributing to higher potential for suicide and use in a domestic abuse situation

Bends a lot of arguments for gun control (although not completely fucking everything over as the anon described.) It iPost too long. Click here to view the full text.
