went into season 5 expecting it to suck ass but it was actually pretty good overall, and there was an actual story and character development unlike the 90% filler 10% gold of season 4

Todds whole ark was an eyesore tho ever since they flanderized his character, and the whole feminism shit was cringy but the episode about male feminists had me in stitches, they even called out Joss Whedon by name

the eulogy episode was by far the best of the season

Diannes schtick is that shes hypocritical and has a severe case of imposter syndrome. She wants to have big goals but is proven again and again that shes as vapid as everyone around her. She plays well off Bojacks character because she has a moral compass while Bojack does not, but theyre both cunts, and neither has the moral highground. She underlines the point that good intentions alone dont make good people. MrPeanutbutter on the other hand is the flipside of Bojack, no moral compass but hes manic and egotistic all the time instead of depressed and egotistic, his characters schtick is that you dont have to be miserable to spread misery all around you. Its the unholy triangle of cunts.

Well, this just came out. It's interesting. Seems to be a direct-from-comic adaptation, including the art style. Now it would be strange for Jhonen's style to not have evolved in 16 years but this somehow looks both more colorful and cheaper. Less in-between frames and the shadows don't lend the same sense of depth as the old show. It's just lots of colors all layered on top of each other. Your thoughts?

Wait they managed to get Sokka's VA and Aang's VA back? I thought Aang's VA had grown up or something? Surprised he could still do a kid voice.

Honestly, I feel the show suffers from a lack of worldbuilidng. It doesn't feel fleshed out enough and seems like a basic fantasy setting. Maybe, they might fix that with later seasons but still seems meh.

I'm gonna pretend this comic and this new Vertigo as a whole line doesn't exist, because I can already tell where this is going

The story so far does a really bad job at selling the witches as protagonists to root for and the "bad guys" feel really cartoon-ish, which for a "mature" comic is a big mistake, I bet 50 bison dollars that by issue 3 every male character is gonna be a strawman for "muh patriarchy" and "muh privilege"

Someone call the Inquisition please, we're gonna need 3 companies of Grey Knights and 5 Sororitas orders to purge this filth

I feel the need to say something about this, since this ended up comparing shots from manga to western standards. Japanese editors consider the kind of paneling that westerners do to be distracting in the sense that not every page needs to be wacky and breaking borders, but action scenes look more akin to the american comic page with diagonal panels and interesting layouts. This is why the left and right page comparisons are bugging me, one is setting up an opening scene the other is a full on fight, they are not very comparable.

I also feel the need to say that the negative space given to a panel around the scene gives that scene it's own feeling. For example, in the third picture, the frame on top could be used to illustrate a scene that increases tension, or nervousness. the bottom one makes you think it's dynamic and fast.

What i'm trying to say is, authors like to express their scenes differently. pages with action don't always need diagonal panels, since they're not meant to be understood the same way.

What layout do you suggest to illustrate boredom and monotony while not boring the reader as well?

Chris Ware's work. Lots of his comics deal with boredom and monotony but he's one of the most creative layout men in comics.

One thing you could is make paneling repetitive and monotonous. Repetitive poses and layout could would reinforce monotony that comes with boredom. Keeping poses static is a good idea as well. You could also use washed out colors, or make black gray instead.

> Ben 10, Megas XLR, He-Man reboot

They were more like 80s Toy focused show. Yeah, I know some of them were outsources by japan studios but they at least keep it off with this symbol expression, have strict westernization and a bit limited animation.

>Avatar, Teen Titans, Martin Mystery Totally Spies

Totally anime inspired.

>but the bean mouth look nothing like anime characters

I watched in my childhood many animes from the 60s and 70s their mouth work is the same and mostly in comedy parts does the anime character the beanmouth.

It does feel kinda weird when you watch older cartoons and start noticing characters that have the bean head, though I think the other major difference was that those series and anime was those characters had more realistically proportioned bodies compared to today's "Calarts bean head" and better art styles to compensate for the simple head design.

Basically they went simple in one area of the body (head) but went into more complex detail everywhere else while Calarts is just simple everywhere.

Exactly, even the very simplied character designs from Joe Murray and McCracken need efforts to pull the characters in good motion spots.

No I meant audio. Cutting video quality goes without saying, but when you're encoding a video that is all one person talking, that is to say, all you want to preserve in terms of audio is the information conveyed by a clear, loud, enunciated human voice, you do not need to keep the audio at source quality. Eyeballing it I'd say you could encode that in 32 kb/s and retain full comprehensibility, including tone and cadence. You might be surprised how much data audio takes up alone.

There are elements of personal preference and certainly there are lots of cases where you want to preserve the audio more. If you're encoding something with scripted dialogue, that'll often be pretty fast, people might talk over each other, cutting quality can make it tricky to follow. Music, obviously you want to preserve as much as possible. Some people just can't listen to bad audio, me personally I'm pretty deaf to quality unless I pay attention.
