Jim, I've just quit my job and have unlimited amount of free time.

I'm thinking about coming to live in Philippines for 3 months or so, any idea where the best cheapest place would be to rent and how much would I spend monthly?

Would I be able to get by on say 1500 AUD a month?

any info would be appreciated, cheers :)

147ac6 No.1938

You can get by nicely on that amount of money. What you rent depends on size and location requirements. Renting a nice house could cost more than 1500 AUD a month. So probably you would want to rent a small apartment.

The only decent girl in that image is the middle one.

So doing some quick mental arithmetic

Could I live a professional manureposter's life style with beer every day and a modest apartment for $21K a month in real money?

Like would I have enough for a house and once or twice monthly "companion" visits?

Also do they still have the double down dog down there? That manure looked really cash.

Kek 2.1K

$2100 American a month

You can rent a nice house in Manila or just outside of Manila for about $1000 a month.

That would leave you $1100 To pay for your utilities, groceries and double down dog, whatever that is. I don't really know what double down dog is. It that a KFC item?

Hahaha, that should come with a warning from the surgeon general. I am getting indigestion just thinking about eating it.

I know several people that have doubled down at KFC. They said it is tasty.

Yeah me too. I can't eat really oily food like that or I start feeling ill.

It takes training to be able to stomach that stuff.

Mandaluyong is not a suburb. It is a large city inside Metro Manila. There are some excellent condos there. Good luck on your journey.

Please respond. Is housing actually much cheaper than the US, or not?

That depends on where you want to live. Housing in the Philippines depends on the province you live in, and what you consider a home. Three hours from Manila you can rent a 3 bedroom bungalo for about $200 a month. I suppose this is similar to West Virginia. I used to live there. If you are in Beckley, the housing cost is high for a decent place, but if you are in a small town a couple hours away then housing is inexpensive.

I have decided on Davao. I'm the OP.

I'm going to stay in Davao (in the top 10 safest cities in the world) and aiming for 3 months for now.

I found a condo for only 13,000 peso a month and that includes all utility bills, internet, air con in room, has a kitchen in my condo etc

I'll make a post somewhere on 8ch and post photos of my journey soon :)

Davao is a good choice – not a manurehole like Metro Manila, and the beach is just a ferry away.

A nice clean, convenient, midsize provincial city.

Lot of medical students there. Mayor Duterte did a good job, though /pinoy/ hates his ass.

Good luck with that. They have the famous mayor. He is running for President. I have heard nothing but good things about Davao.
