New UFO files detail eerie sightings near California island at heart of 'underwater alien base' theory

Three Boy Scouts hiking on a California island reported a silent silver object they believed was moving faster than a conventional jet before apparently disintegrating.
Their account resurfaced in the Pentagon’s seventh release of UFO files on Friday, alongside other reports of mysterious sightings around Catalina Island.
An Air Intelligence Information Report dated August 28, 1952, places the Scouts’ encounter during a mountain hike around noon on June 25, under clear skies.
The object appeared to make a climbing turn immediately before its 'disappearance by disintegration,' according to the report.
Another file contains a handwritten letter dated May 1, 1949, describing six objects passing individually over Avalon on the evening of April 28, followed minutes later by four more traveling in the same direction.
The military’s summary recorded six objects and concluded there was insufficient information to evaluate the sighting.
The waters off Southern California have also become the focus of speculation about hidden underwater UFO bases.
Some UFO enthusiasts have suggested Sycamore Knoll, a vast, flat-topped underwater formation off Malibu roughly 44 miles northwest of Catalina Island’s western end, could conceal such a base.
The three Scouts were attending summer camp at Camp Fox, where they witnessed the strange sightings, according to the document prepared at March Air Force Base.
They were hiking in the same group when they spotted the objects over the island.
'The object was silver in color, altitude is uncertain, and speed estimated to be faster than a conventional jet,' the report states.
'There was no sound observed.'
While the document is sparse in detail, it describes one apparent maneuver: the object climbed into the air and immediately turned before disappearing, as the witnesses explained, in disintegration.
However, the report did not establish the object’s altitude or record how long the Scouts watched it, and the boys had no observing instruments available to measure its movements.
The officer compiling the account also acknowledged the difficulty of assessing the witnesses.
'No estimate of the reliability can be attempted by the reporter,' the document states, adding that the observers’ experience was 'probably meager at best.'
The report lists four accompanying letters and notes that two included rough sketches of what the witnesses saw. Those letters and drawings were not in the Pentagon's Friday release.
The letter, signed by Avalon resident Percy E Mackey, was addressed to Kenneth Arnold in Boise, Idaho.
Mackey wrote that his wife and a schoolteacher had seen six objects around 8pm on April 28.
They appeared 'not in a group, but singly,' he explained.
Minutes later, his wife went to their daughter’s home on the next street, where she, their daughter and their grandson reportedly saw four more objects.
'All travelling in the same direction,' Mackey wrote.
The brief letter offered no description of the objects’ shape, color or speed, but its author offered to provide more information.
'If you are still interested in flying disks, saucers etc., please let me know and I will write more in full,' he wrote.
Although the letter described six objects followed by four more, the military’s summary recorded only six, noting that each flew past alone.
The record listed no photographs or physical evidence and concluded there was 'insufficient data for evaluation.'
A November 1953 account came from a military witness in San Pedro, who reported watching a purplish-white light over Catalina Island for about 10 minutes.
The light initially appeared stationary before reportedly moving northwest toward Los Angeles. Investigators classified the sighting as astronomical, identifying the object as Jupiter.
Another report described a civilian in Avalon spotting a bright orange, circular object falling straight down on March 15, 1955.
The sighting lasted approximately two seconds, and the military considered the object a probable meteor because of its brief appearance and downward path.

At the start of October, Grusch discussed 2 distinct alleged encounters involving nonhuman beings on The Joe Rogan Experience – dead Grey aliens reportedly found after a crash retrieval, and living reptilian beings allegedly encountered during a separate incident.
In his Rebelliously Curious interview, Burlison said his office was still trying to obtain the footage Grusch had described, including video allegedly showing bodies at a crash-retrieval site.
We're still on the trail of getting access to that footage, said congressman Eric Burlison.
But the alleged footage is not the only lead. Burlison said his office was also investigating reports of a shootout at a military base, which he said he had heard about from Grusch and other individuals. He did not identify the base or provide evidence that the incident occurred.
Burlison said his office had sent requests and letters to Lockheed Martin and other major defence contractors, as well as government agencies including the CIA, FBI and Department of War, in pursuit of information related to Grusch's claims.
Grusch had worked with Burlison's team for 18 months before leaving in September to pursue other opportunities. Burlison said Grusch's work had been helpful to the office and rejected suggestions that he had improperly taken classified documents from the government.

More than three decades after one of the most famous alleged UFO encounters in history, a new witness has emerged to share what he says happened at Ariel School in Zimbabwe in 1994.
Interestingly, of all people, the witness has decided to tell his story to former UFC champion Georges St-Pierre.
Then again, several years ago, Georges St-Pierre revealed that he once had a mysterious UFO encounter while traveling in New Mexico with several other fighters, one of whom corroborated his story.
Since then, St-Pierre has spoken about the UFO encounter a few times and also talked about his fears of being abducted by aliens.
In the case of the Ariel School, witness Paul Trim was 11-years-old at the time of the alleged UFO encounter, and he believes that he saw a spaceship and three aliens.
He wasn’t the only one to make this claim either.
In fact, 62 children, aged six to twelve, at the Ariel School, a private school in Ruwa, Zimbabwe, said they saw strange silver objects land in a field near their playground on September 16, 1994.
Some students said they met humanoid-like beings with large black eyes. They claimed that these beings spoke to them in their minds, not with words. They supposedly told the children to be careful not to harm the environment or misuse technology.
Ariel School UFO Witness Describes Seeing Three Alien Beings
During his interview with Georges St-Pierre, Paul Trim recalled being in the school garden during morning recess when frightened children began running towards him.
So, as one of the school’s older students and a prefect, he decided to investigate. He claims that what he saw was something straight out of a science fiction movie.
Trim described a saucer-shaped object sitting in a nearby field, about a football field away. Three small, thin beings stood near the spaceship.
He also claimed that when the aliens moved, they did so with unusual smoothness, almost as though they were floating.
“What stuck with me, they had some sort of black suit on and they had these big, big eyes,” Trim recalled.
Eventually, Trim said the aliens entered the craft through what looked like a ramp or some type of energy field. Then the UFO took off.
“It was like a flash of light and this thing was out of here right away,” he said.
The Children Allegedly Received Telepathic Warnings About Earth’s Future
Paul Trim also said that several children, including his younger sister, claimed they received telepathic warnings about humanity’s treatment of the planet and the possible dangers of technology.
He also explained why it took him more than three decades to discuss what happened publicly. Trim said teachers showed the children frightening videos about alien abductions following the incident, leaving him terrified to talk about his experience.
Harvard psychiatrist Dr. John Mack later interviewed several of the students, many of whom continued to stand by their claims.
One child told Mack that the aliens telepathically warned him “about something that’s going to happen.” Another claimed to have been told that because people are not protecting the environment, the world will end.
Paul’s Trim’s sister, Emily, shared paintings in 2016, claiming they were a “manifestation of the messages she received” from the entities that day.
Not Everyone Agrees About What Happened
At least one former student claims the entire story is made up, and no physical evidence proves aliens actually visited Ariel School. Paul Trim, though, remains convinced he witnessed something not of this world.
“Without a doubt, something happened that day,” he said. “I was there. I saw something happen. The hard part is how do you explain that?”

The US government reportedly examined dark energy as a possible means of enabling Star Trek-style warp drives in a 2010 defence study later released alongside records concerning UFOs and possible extraterrestrial life.
The study was produced under the Defense Intelligence Agency's Advanced Aerospace Weapon System Applications programme, commonly known as AAWSAP.
It considered whether faster-than-light travel could be possible, drawing on a mathematical framework proposed by physicist Miguel Alcubierre in 1994.
The quoted passages concern theoretical propulsion. They do not establish that the government approved an alien-search mission or developed technology capable of carrying astronauts faster than light.
The Energy Barrier to Warp Drives
The proposed system would alter space around a spacecraft. The study states, 'The basic idea is to create an asymmetric bubble of space that is contracting in front of the spacecraft while expanding behind it.
'Using this form of locomotion, the spacecraft remains stationary inside this 'warp bubble' and the movement of space itself facilitates the relative motion of the spacecraft.'
Energy was a central obstacle to translating those calculations into useful travel. Creating the bubble appeared to require far more energy than humanity could supply, leaving a substantial gap between the mathematical proposal and a functioning spacecraft.
Under one set of assumptions, the study calculated a warp-bubble speed of just 5.16 micrometres per second. 'Garden snails can crawl faster than this,' the authors wrote.
The paper explored whether harnessing dark energy could overcome that constraint and make the proposed drive suitable for space travel.
Dark energy is associated with the Universe's expansion, but its nature remains poorly understood.
Warp Drives Raise Questions About Cause and Effect
Katy Clough, of Queen Mary University of London, told The Times that the paper made theoretical sense but remained highly speculative. She described using dark energy to build warp drives as a 'common crackpot notion'.
Clough said discussions about warp drives quickly enter the 'realm of bonkers', with numerous practical obstacles standing between the calculations and actual space travel.
Although faster-than-light travel could shorten journeys, she warned that it might also 'break causality and change the past', raising questions beyond whether enough energy could ever be supplied.
Her concern extended beyond propulsion technology to the possibility that such travel could challenge the established relationship between cause and effect.
NASA-Backed Nuclear Rocket Would Not Deliver Warp Drives
A separate propulsion concept, the Pulsed Plasma Rocket, or PPR, was described as a way to shorten journeys to Mars without reaching warp speed. US company Howe Industries was developing the system.
The rocket would obtain energy through fission, the controlled splitting of atoms, to generate thrust. That is a different proposal from the expanding and contracting space described in the warp-drive study.
NASA stated in its May 2024 project description that 'The PPR enables a whole new era in space exploration.' It also projected that the proposed system's efficiency could allow crewed missions to reach Mars within two months.
The two-month journey remained a projection for the proposed technology. NASA said the system could alternatively transport heavier spacecraft equipped with additional shielding against galactic cosmic rays, potentially reducing crew exposure.

Contrary to his assertion that he learned of the Hunter Biden laptop from Wikipedia, Benavides regularly discussed the laptop with FBI officials in the leadup to the 2020 election,” the DOJ said.
Floris and Benavides both falsely testified that the FBI Foreign Influence Task Force (FITF) was not involved in the Hunter Biden laptop investigation.
On Tuesday, federal prosecutors, in an unsigned superseding complaint, charged Floris and Benavides with obstructing a congressional proceeding.
However, far-left Magistrate Judge Zia Faruqui fumed as he tossed out the charges after the Justice Department filed an unsworn and unsigned superseding complaint.

RIO DE JANEIRO and BUENOS AIRES (CN) — Brazilian Senator Flávio Bolsonaro may have fled the country after Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes barred him from traveling abroad, following his defeat to President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva in Sunday’s presidential runoff.
The travel ban was imposed as part of a criminal investigation into Bolsonaro’s ties to Willer Tomaz, a lawyer and longtime friend suspected of money laundering. De Moraes also ordered Bolsonaro to surrender his passports within 24 hours and barred him from contacting Tomaz.
The court order remains under seal, but Bolsonaro himself confirmed the restrictions in a video posted on social media. Bolsonaro failed to surrender his passports by the Tuesday morning deadline, according to Brazilian media reports. Federal police were expected to notify De Moraes of his failure to comply with the order.
According to Brazilian and Argentine media reports, the son of former President Jair Bolsonaro crossed into Argentina on foot and was expected to board a private plane for the United States.
Brazil’s Federal Police have not confirmed Bolsonaro’s whereabouts. Argentine immigration authorities said early Tuesday there were “no records whatsoever of Flávio Bolsonaro entering the Argentine Republic,” nor any flight plans involving the Bolsonaro family.
The Argentine presidential spokesman also denied knowledge of any Bolsonaro requesting asylum.
Bolsonaro faces at least two criminal investigations before Brazil’s Supreme Court. In the case involving Tomaz, Federal Police investigators identified suspected financial ties between the two men after examining a phone seized from the lawyer during an investigation into fraud involving Brazil’s social security system. The findings included records suggesting Bolsonaro had access to a bank account associated with one of Tomaz’s companies. Both have denied wrongdoing.
A separate investigation concerns suspected financial irregularities involving Daniel Vorcaro, the former owner of Banco Master, a Brazilian bank shut down by regulators in November 2025 amid charges of financial fraud. Vorcaro has been held in pretrial detention since March.
Investigators are examining a proposed $24 million contribution to “Dark Horse,” a film about Bolsonaro’s father, as part of a probe into possible corruption, money laundering and foreign exchange violations. Bolsonaro has denied wrongdoing, saying the film was privately financed.
The senator’s legal troubles come as he prepares to leave elected office for the first time in 24 years. His Senate term ends in January, leaving him without a parliamentary mandate as of February. Under a 2025 Supreme Court ruling, however, investigations involving suspected crimes committed in connection with public office can remain before the court even after a politician’s term ends.
Renato Vieira, a criminal defense lawyer and former president of the Brazilian Institute of Criminal Sciences, said travel restrictions are precautionary measures intended to protect criminal investigations.
“Fleeing could indicate an intention to avoid serving a potential sentence,” Vieira said.
If Bolsonaro has left the country, Brazilian authorities could seek international police cooperation through Interpol to locate him, although any arrest or extradition would require additional legal procedures.
Rodrigo Brandão, a constitutional law professor at Rio de Janeiro State University, said evidence that Bolsonaro attempted to flee after learning of the court order could seriously weaken his legal position and strengthen the grounds for seeking pretrial detention. He stressed the investigations remain at an early stage and that the senator’s guilt or innocence has yet to be determined.

Brazil’s Constitution generally prohibits the arrest of members of Congress except when they are caught committing a crime for which bail is unavailable. In such cases, the relevant legislative chamber must review the detention. Brandão said the application of these protections to pretrial detention remains legally contested.
Bolsonaro also holds an Italian passport, according to Brandão, who noted that Brazilian authorities can order the surrender of foreign travel documents but cannot revoke them, since they are issued by another country. De Moraes’ order included any foreign passports the senator might hold, media reported.
Rodrigo Stumpf González, a political science professor at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul, said a confirmed attempt to flee could jeopardize Bolsonaro’s political future.
“Given his electoral performance, he would have been the natural leader of the opposition. But if he leaves the country, he will not only destroy his political career but also damage the family’s reputation, hurting his brothers and stepmother, who were elected to Congress,” González said.
González said Bolsonaro’s most loyal supporters would likely interpret his departure as evidence of political persecution, even though he currently faces criminal investigations rather than formal charges. He noted that Bolsonaro’s party has already begun distancing itself from that narrative by recognizing the election results.
“In Brazil, fleeing is generally seen as an admission of guilt. Lula accepted imprisonment knowing that the alternative would be the end of his political career,” González said. “Unlike during the dictatorship, the idea that fleeing is a way to escape a threat is no longer accepted today. Despite scandals involving some judges, the judiciary still enjoys a reasonable degree of public trust.”
Bolsonaro’s brother Eduardo Bolsonaro moved to the United States in March 2025, initially saying he feared having his passport seized. He subsequently lost his seat in Brazil’s lower house for missing congressional sessions and was sentenced to four years and two months in prison for attempting to interfere with judicial proceedings against his father. Earlier this month, Moraes issued an arrest warrant and ordered Eduardo Bolsonaro’s passports canceled.
Their father also explored the possibility of seeking asylum abroad. In August 2025, Federal Police investigators found a draft request for political asylum in Argentina addressed to President Javier Milei on his phone. Jair Bolsonaro spent two nights at the Hungarian Embassy in Brasília in February 2024, shortly after authorities seized his passport. De Moraes later concluded there was insufficient evidence that the embassy visit constituted an attempt to flee.
Bolsonaro and Milei, Argentina’s far-right president, kept a close alliance over the last months. Milei supported Bolsonaro during his campaign, and even wielded his trademark chainsaw during the Liberal Party convention in São Paulo.
Meanwhile, Milei has called Lula, Brazil’s president, a “convict,” and “totalitarian.” Recently, his statements led the Lula administration to downgrade ties with Argentina, one of its most influential neighbors and trade partners.
Milei’s government did not issue any statement following Lula’s win Sunday, making Argentina the only country in Latin America that failed to acknowledge the victory. “President Milei is no hypocrite,” said Ravier, the spokesman, at a news conference Tuesday. “The ideological distance between the two leaders is real.”

In the final weeks, officials made late changes to the rules. Turnout suddenly jumped in the areas that strongly support Lula. And last-minute decisions helped one side. Even so, Flávio Bolsonaro received more votes than his father did in 2022, and his party gained more seats in Congress. The right did not get weaker. It was passed in the final stretch by a mix of extra government spending, higher turnout in left-leaning regions, and an extended voting window whose timing and impact are still being questioned.
Flávio is not accepting the result.
Flávio is reportedly headed to Florida with his family after his Socialist opponent canceled his passport. Although it has not yet been confirmed, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio is being credited with helping him gain asylum in the United States.
What followed the election has been more telling than the vote tally itself. Flávio refused to concede, as did his party, and said he would organize the opposition to resist the “chaos.” Multiple reports, including confirmation from a U.S. official cited by Reuters and earlier statements from Levy, indicate he left Brazil with his family and is headed to the United States. Brazilian authorities under Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes canceled his passports after he failed to surrender them. The move has been described as a protective operation. For Trump’s team, a high-profile Brazilian opposition figure operating from American soil changes the calculus.

“Uhh, maybe,” Roy politely said, laughing. Tomlinson awkwardly tried to recover, saying, “Okay, let’s keep it going.”
