It Happenned One Night is a chick flick from the 30s, its not bad, its not great, its fairly predictable but it probably created a lot of modern day tropes. Main chick is a qt 4/5

It's a good movie, but you have to watch it on a big screen to really appreciate all of the subtle nuances in the acting.

No it didn't because I couldn't be bothered to care about the story or characters at all, it has as much interesting things as a fucking mcdonalds commerical. It's an entire movie filled with long action sequences not a movie that has some long action sequences in it.

This list shows just how skewed and homogenized movie criticism has become.

Hahahahaha, and there are people on this board that actually use Rotten Tomatoes.
Daily reminder that critics are the lowest form of life and that tapeworms have more value than those worthless wannabes.

I saw it and wasn't too big on it. You might want to watch it just for the historical value if that's the kind of thing you're into.

This, basically.

Vertigo isn't even close to the best thing Hitchcock ever made. It has an interesting atmosphere to it, but I don't get why fart sniffers are so in love with it.
Singin' in the Rain in nowhere near the best musical, either. Where's The Wizard of Oz?
Sunrise I can understand, though.

Based. Psycho is his best film. Followed by North by Northwest, which itself isn't that great.

Scores are so skewed and homogenized that I've honestly found RT scores in the 10s, 20s, 30s, 50s, 60s, and 70s to be better than the movies that score from 80-100 by magnitudes. I've basically only seen about 1 or 2 movies that have gotten high RT scores and deserved them in the last 6 years.

Its would be interesting to see what films in the past would've had the highest RT scores based on contemporary reviews only. I'm guessing it would be nearly as dull, a bunch of Oscar bait critics felt obligated to clap for.

Saisage part was too much. I love ATHF and Its always sunny…I have no qualms, just be funny. It wasnt..
Boondock was not a good movie but its a fucking cool revenge movie so put aside you intellect and enjoy its stupidity. Hreat example why reviews on RT cant cover most middle movies.
Star Wars and Marvel are a sign that reviewers are choosing to comrpomise integrity for what they percieve as entertainment. The issue is of course that they arent entertaining either really, so we are giving participation trophies.

muuuuaaaaahhh the american film has always been celebrated for its excellence
Citizen Kane is also the most common critics choice for best movie ever so much that it's rather overrated
No.2019277
>>2019263
Full disclosure I have never seen Citizen Kane however I get the feeling that people just tend to rate it as one of if not the best movie ever simply because they've been beaten over the head that it is the greatest movie ever made.

Outside of Hollywood there's also people making movies, you know…
No.2019292

It's slightly above average these days but back then it established, out of nowhere in America, several techniques and actions that basically established the other third of what american cinema was going to be (and somewhat still is), the other 2 thirds were Ford and Dewee Griffith.
And when you add the backstory of how the movie was made, the meta or so to say, you add another layer to its legendary status, the creator AND the creation's stories. Welles didn't really invent that much as he simply refined some aspects of what he saw in his trips around Europe, either obscure art cinema to high-level theater with high-level scenery.
The best way to enjoy the movie is to watch a couple of movies from its era to know what kind of monster it was in the filmscape.
No.2019295

I don't think Americans really understand the world outside their country. That's why i get somewhat angry when people say americans have no culture, they do but it's everywhere these days, hence why they think everything is the same, and said thing is so dense but subtly omnipresent at the same time that they are always drunk on it.

I saw, and liked it. After watching it I thought: "This is probably the best film made in the "Hollywood Style"." Many art films are better but nowhere near as showy and memorable.
