It's about a man and a dog living in a world where humanity vanished. I'm leaving it intentionally unexplained because I want the focus to be on the relationship between the two characters rather than on the setting, so it's essentially an unexplained phenomena where all the humans bar one (to our knowledge) have disappeared. Also, while towns and villages have been reclaimed by nature, life refuses to grow in the cities. As for the breed, I honestly don't know. I'm considering making it a labrador, because labradors are typically described as very loyal but not very dependent, but I'm not sure. I might not even go as far as to mention what it looks like in the story. The dog is not anthropomorphic and does not speak, the narration is presented in the form of an internal monologue.

I was trying to write some stuff a year or so ago, but my problem is that I'm absolutely terrible at long-form writing and that's what I was attempting, maybe short stories would be better for me.
I'd quite like to do a world war Z sort of thing actually, with different short stories set in the same world, I had a cool idea for a fantasy setting where the entire world was covered in trees, and the people lived in clearings.

This was my problem too really when I was younger. I even struggled with short stories, I would churn out a couple decent pages than start to lose direction or get bored. I'm finding this one a bit better because I've jotted out a rough plan that follows the entire story arc. I might even be able to expand it into a novella if I like the short storey enough.
No.36657

Well somewhere out there, there's a town that's been completely turned to stone, but if you're talking wildlife then it depends on how deep in you go. On the parts closest to civilisation there's a lot of monkey-like creatures, that jump around and live on high branches, coming down to scavenge food from humans, as well as a few species of birds and stuff, some small snakes.
As you go deeper in the animals get a bit weirder. The trees get taller and thicker, light finds it harder to get through the branches so the creatures tend to be pretty blind, with better other senses, or some with straight up dark/night vision. In the deeper parts, you see giant snakes the size of regular trees in the more civilised areas, and flightless birds with beaks capable of penetrating the bark so they can sap liquids from inside the trees.

My plan was to make the dog's monlogue basically that of an educated man, and I was planning on making the man quite simple. I thought the dog being well spoken would add a slight tinge of humour to an otherwise bleak story. He's not going to really talk about dog things, purely about the necessities of survival and his relationship with his owner, or his mutual companion as he comes to think of him.
>>36657
>and flightless birds with beaks capable of penetrating the bark so they can sap liquids from inside the trees.
I feel like you could have a lot of fun with a study of sort of the fictional creatures in this world. I really like the idea of a canopy so dark that it creates blind creatures that live above ground.

The problem I see with it is that due to the way I want trees not being too far away from each other, regular forest style near civilisation and slightly further apart in the deepest parts, but not far enough for anything more than the size of a car to get through, and lots of criss-corssing branches keeping the light out, there cant be anything enormous in size, except for maybe something like a giant snake, which wouldnt be restricted by these things.
I have been thinking about large creatures though, like giant boars, the width of a car, and the length and hight of two, and large Ram/goat style horns. I think most of the dangerous creatures will be OP because of their adaptions though as opposed to the huge size and speed. Living in the denser parts of deep forest and being able to move around the maze of trees lightning fast.
>>36663
Yeah, other than my absolute love of forests the idea of lost civilisations and the adaptations of the creatures were my main inspiration for the setting. I'm far more interested in the animals themselves than any petty squabbles the humans of the world would have. I think short stories would work well for it if I told them as adventures of various hunting parties going into the deep.

I agree and I agree about the strong independent Viking womym shit but it has has some good moments. My main gripe is they try and cram as much Viking history into the story as they can. When they insert mythology into the story it feels really contrived to me too. Maybe that's just because I'm too well acquainted with Norse mythology though.
Also they take liberties with the story that don't really make sense, but then most TV shows do that.

Was that meant to be an Arab slave trader in episode 2? I think it was but they didn't have the bottle to make him a proper paki. Ho hum, looks like things are about to get interesting.

I like to think Ragnar was real but some people say he was just an amalgamation of different people, a mish mash of different myths and people. His death does have a striking resemblances to Gunnar's death for instance.
And yes I'm pretty sure that was meant to be an Arab. Not sure how he managed to get hold of slaves from Paris though. I thought the Vikings would have taken slaves, not just give them to some Arab for him to resell back to them.
Regarding liberties, I was thinking more about Rollo. Especially his betrayal in episode 2. It doesn't make sense. He was only given land because he had a band of Vikings back him up. Killing them makes him powerless. The Normans were Norse so again it doesn't make sense that he kills all the Vikings who would later become Normans.

They said seven years but I think it might be more like eight or even nine as I've been told before that they got fucked in the 2008 financial crash, sold their island and haven't visited since. I don't imagine they would have offered me an opportunity in the middle of that.
I'm planning to contact them, but I imagine it's too late. I'm guessing part of the reason was they didn't have any kids at the time but now they do, so the whole 'heir' business is out the window. Plus, I haven't personally contacted them in the time since.
I think they'll just see it as me being greedy, contacting them only when I've been told about something they have to offer me, instead of for family things like birthdays and asking how they are.
I'm at my 20's now and only have GCSE's to my name and have been pretty much just been in my room a long time. I'm hardly the kind of successful extroverted big-shot type they'll need to fit the job, that's without even considering if I'd be able to do well enough in American education to meet their standards, or if they even still own the business.

Is there such a thing as actual anglo saxon paganism though? Wasn't the majority of information on proper religious practice and the like destroyed? How can you worship a god without knowing anything about it?

>>36979
There is Anglo-Saxon Paganism and there is loads to read. It is largely Germanic Paganism in a different language.
Gods are allegorical, aligned to spirit, emotion, nature and concepts.
When it comes to religious practice just about everyone celebrates something Christians renamed, Christmas is Yule, Halloween is Samhain. Samhain is Celtic but the same practice was also in the Germanic world.
I've seen niggers say that Christianity is a way of whitey getting blacks to celebrate white Pagan festivals which is pretty kekworthy.
No.36981
>>36979
Yeah most of the information was destroyed but you can look up historical laws made by christian anglo-saxon kingdoms and see the practices, you don't pass laws against things that arn't an issue. For instance giving offerings to waterfalls and trees was banned under law. It doesn't really matter what the 'proper' religious practice was. The important part is finding your spirituality and venerating the gods of our ancestors who have been forgotten. Make them proud of their son.

Maybe prehistoric wasn't the best word but much of the pagan tradition is not known, and much of what is was incorporated into Christianity.

also speaking of migrants, I was bored today at work and did some maths on the demographics of England. Most leftycucks will say it's not an issue because white brits are still the big majority, but I instead worked out how much the population has changed from 2001 census to 2011 census
White British : Minus 467,900
White Irish: Minus 107,114
White other: +1,121,900
Black: +714,106

It's time for /blogfeel/.
I wasn't always anxious, it developed around the same time as I hit puberty, but it only became a severe problem after leaving school. Even when I was in school I only had a bath once a week because that's just what I'd always done since I was a kid, but once I left school and my parents started thinking that asking me to do anything at all might result in me hanging myself, it was up to me to push myself to do, and I would always leave it at least 2 weeks because I really didn't want to.
I pretty much fell into depression as soon the summer holidays began after leaving school at 16, my sleep pattern went to shit immediately, and I suddenly had no friends. I went to college for three years after that and I only had 60% attendance, despite the fact it was only 2.5 days a week, because my sleep pattern and diet was all over the place. I was either in a state of constipation or diarrhoea, and I would just go back and forth between the two. Never figured out why, but I assume it was the result of a shit diet, a shit sleeping pattern that often led to me waking up and immediately eating dinner, overly sedentary lifestyle, and severe levels of anxiety. All in all it was a really bad time, I didn't really talk to anyone there and just stood on my own feeling like shit most breaks.
Once college finished I had no reason to leave the house at all and I didn't know what to do with myself, in fact I thought doing anything besides just sitting in my room all day at my computer was pointless, including basic personal hygiene. The next four years were even more of a blur than the previous three, and it wasn't unusual for me to peek through my blinds and be surprised what season it was. I was completely lost in time, to the point where without a computer I wouldn't have been able to tell you what month, day, or even which side of the day/night cycle it was.
All I did all "day" was what I mentioned in >>37245 , and beyond that there was nothing. I rarely left my bedroom, never left the house, it was just me and my computer all day every day. IRL felt secondary to the PC/online world, I would have moments every couple of weeks where I would look outside and think "holy shit, I completely forgot IRL was a thing".
After 7 years of living like that, I had a quarter-life crisis and began working towards turning my life around. I've made a lot of progress, like making posts online, developing a sleep pattern, improving my diet, showering regularly, leaving the house on my own, buying things from shops, lifting dumbbells, talking and giving eye contact more, and recently even talking to people online with my voice. There's still plenty more to be done though, I'm not nearly finished yet.
