How many films do you watch per week? Per year?

Do you still go to the cinema?

Do you track your viewing on a website or spreadsheet?

Do you try to complete viewing lists and filmographies, or do you just watch random stuff?

 No.6045

average of like 1 a day

I only go to the movies when something really good is out, otherwise just rent dvds from netflix or the library or download them

netflix/letterboxd

random mostly, I've already seen the imdb 250 or whatever was the 250 when I checked it out, now gradually working my way through the latest 1001 films list

 No.6048

1 or two daily

on occasion

I don't delete movies after I finish watching them so no

charts are nice but I like watching whatever piques my interest

OP here, this was my attempt at an open-ended thread for easy participation. Did I miss any interesting questions/aspects related to viewing habits? Add whatever you think would improve it.

So I usually watch 2 per week -- sometimes more, time permitting. Yearly total is around 200.

I don't go to the cinema very often. Pretty much only when other people want to see something. Never watched a 3D movie.

I'm not on letterboxd but I'm thinking about joining either RYM or ICM. None of the sites seem to provide a really expansive analysis of your data. I want a bunch of fancy charts 'n graphs!

I follow a bunch of lists but veerry slowly because I don't want to burn through all the "good" stuff too quickly. I still haven't seen all of Kubrick's films (missing about 30 minutes of Lolita) and he's one of the the first things most people watch.

 No.6052

I see as many films as possible during a given week. I don't go to cinemas very often in my town since the people who frequent these places have few to none interest or knowledge in the arts and enjoy the film-going experience merely as a social phenomena rather than a gesture of appreciation for the medium, but I often visit relatively modest cinema screeners that exhibit smaller, less demanded works of both upcoming and renowned autheurs.

As for my interests, I try to watch newer films that may go under the radar of mainstrean sensibilities - as well as revisiting some favorites. I keep track of them through the newspapers, follow determined countries and subjects. I tend to avoid films that explore modern day conflicts as they tend to get very biased so I prefer period pieces over most other films.

 No.6055

I watch usually at least one film a week. if I didn't have so many responsibilities it would probably be more, also if I didn't have so many other things I like to do in mein freizeit. haven't been to a movie theater in years (and never in my life actually paid for it lol), but that's because they only have the mega soda super hero stadiums around where I live. I'd go if they showed anything I actually thought would have any kind of value. i just get good quality rips off PTP

don't keep track or watch lists, that's kind of stupid [sp]autistic[/sp] imo, but whatever. the way i've been choosing is either going to the earliest film i have on my hard drive, or one that was recently mentioned irl or on here or something

 No.6058

I would say I watch 2 movies a week minimum and 5 movies a week maximum, or 3.5 movies a week. I don't count movie binges where I'll watch something like four or five in a day, which is rare and happens only once or twice a year. That makes my yearly movie intake roughly 182 a year.

I still go to the cinema, but not regularly. I'd say I go about twice a month maximum and once every three months minimum.

I sometimes write about the movies I see on Letterbox, but not all of them. I blog about National Film Registry movies.

I don't do viewing lists but I'm not random either. I watch movies depending on directors, genres, and movements I want to catch up on and if the time of year calls for it. It's October so I'm obviously watching more horror movies than normal.

Interesting, what sorts of newer period pieces go under the mainstream radar? That seems unusual because period films can be costly to make.

>>6055

> they only have the mega soda super hero stadiums around where I live

That's all I can see too. The local film society has weekly showings but I'm usually too busy to make it. So it's the cineplex late show or nothing.

>>6058

> I blog about National Film Registry movies.

Sounds like a fun project. I know they have a lot of nice picks in that collection: https://www.loc.gov/programs/national-film-preservation-board/film-registry/complete-national-film-registry-listing/ (best if you sort by year of release)

 No.6067

>>6066

there's not even a 'local film society' where i live afaik

 No.6070

>>6066

Yeah, it's fun. Also a bit overwhelming since there are around 650 films. It will take years to complete and I'm not putting out content very fast right now due to still being in school. I'm going by year of induction and I'm still on the first group. So I'm doing 1989 and in reverse alphabetical order.

I think when I finish 89 I'll pick a random year and go alphabetically again. I do this so that my reviews will vary in time period and content.

 No.6077

>>6044

On average, about 3 or 4 movies p/week. I watch more when I have the time.

Per year I'd say 200 or so but my letterboxd says I'm at 250 for 2015

I go to the cinema for fun, I like to go with friends or as a date. I'm seeing Hard to be a God tonight but most of the time it's blockbuster drivel that I watch in the cinema.

I track my viewing using letterboxd

I watch stuff pretty randomly but there are certain lists that get me to other lists and so on, I mainly use it for suggestion. Sometimes I dive into a certain director.

At the moment I can only play dvd's and BR so I'm kind of confined but I keep on finding nice stuff, it's a good thing for my collection but it's a bad thing for my wallet.

>>6049

I'd also love a bunch of charts n graphs, letterboxd seems to have the data for it, maybe it's an option in pro but I don't have it. Cba to transfer my entire letterboxd to a different platform tho.

I also catalog the movies I own in a list on lb.

 No.6107

>>6077

> I'd also love a bunch of charts n graphs, letterboxd seems to have the data for it,

That's why I asked about spreadsheets since none of the sites seem to do what I want. I think you could do some cool stuff by writing a script to query IMDB and other sites.

But I don't have enough time to figure out how to do that.

 No.6222

>>6107

This is an example of one of the things you get for $19 a year.

http://letterboxd.com/matthew/year/2012/

And here's some more info on it

http://letterboxd.com/about/pro/

So basically you get Netflix integration and a bunch of fancy charts 'n graphs every year.

 No.6226

>>6222

Hm, not bad.

> Members who joined Letterboxd prior to the introduction of Pro membership will be allowed some of the perks of a Pro account, such as continued Netflix integration.

I joined pretty early but never used it. But I wonder if my account has those extra perks.

 No.6229

>>6222

Okay, thanks. I was hoping for more a little more data really, like some international stats. And it would be nice to compare 2012 stats with 2013, 2014, etc. on the same graph. I don't like the design where graph values are hidden unless you hover over them.

It's better than nothing but I wouldn't pay for it.

 No.6230

1-3 per week

Sometimes, every other month

letterboxd

random stuff, watched all of woody allen's stuff though in a week or two last summer

 No.6232

I watch movies when I am lonely, sad and have nothing better to do.

So it happens in bursts. Nothing for weeks then 50 movies in 2 weeks and then nothing etc.

 No.6302

where do you guys get your films? It's pretty hard to find some online and using the dvd service on netflix is slow as hell for me

 No.6305

>>6302

I buy things or watch streaming. some rare stuff I find on torrents or other download websites.

I try to watch at least 1 movie per week. This year I have watched 74 so far.

Rarely.

I use letterboxd and imdb for tracking. I also take snapshots and post them on tumblr regularily.

I usually watch stuff randomly. I just download a lot of stuff from KG, then watch it in no particular order. Sometimes a certain movie by a director may spark my interest, but I rarely exhaust filmographies in a short period of time.

 No.6313

>>6310

> I also take snapshots and post them on tumblr regularly.

Cool, you could post some here too if you feel like it (there's a thread for it somewhere)

And by the way what's that third image from?

 No.6317

It's from Gyorgy Palfi's Free Fall (Szabadeses).

 No.6318

>>6317

Thanks! Great director.

I didn't know he made a new movie but that looks fantastic.

 No.6319

i try to at least watch 2 movie/doc per week

cinemas here are really mainstream normie stuff, i rarely go

i try to keep up with mubi lists, but they can get pretty exhaustive

 No.6320

>>6319

> mainstream normie stuff

Does Venezuela get flooded with all the Hollywood stuff like everywhere else? I'd think they might try to limit that.

 No.6332

>>6320

Venezuela and latin america in general "imports" a lot of american culture, it's your backyard as they say.

 No.6394

>>6320

sorry for the super late answer.

but this >>6332 , yeah.

Its filled with hollywood blockbusters, pixels tier stuff. Up until rently when a law passed that cinemas must screen venezuelan-movies.

Which introduced me the indie type stuff, too bad most of the time its the politically gommie movies that gets the budget.

 No.6395

>>6394

Pana i wanted to ask if you have found/downloaded old venezuelan flicks on the internet

I did a list from a book an uncle had but i never find them on the web, at least in torrents or rars

Stuff from Roman Chalbaud, Luis Roche and Mauri Walerstein

I never saw that stuff back in the day in RCTV or Venevision other than Er Conde ultra-low budget projects

 No.6400

>>6395

> Stuff from Roman Chalbaud, Luis Roche and Mauri Walerstein

I'm not that guy but I see a few Chalbaud rips available online:

- El pez que fuma (1977) aka The Smoking Fish

- El rebaño de los ángeles (1979) aka The Flock of Angels

- Cangrejo (1982) aka Crab

Nothing from the other two directors
