Is anyone seeing this?

I know it's being played currently in a lot of cities.

 No.6209

Can anyone link me to a list of theaters this will be coming to? I've looked everywhere and can't find anything

I was going to ask the same thing. Is this screened as a one day affair? Hell of a marathon but I'd definitely do it.

I only looked at Chicago but they split it into 4 showings of 2 parts each.

So, how was it?

I'm seeing this at a marathon screening in a couple days, couldn't be more excited. Any other movies I should watch beforehand to prepare myself for it? I haven't seen anything else by Rivette and was thinking of watching some of his earlier films, especially L'Amour Fou, any other suggestions?

I think L'amour fou is a great choice for a warmup. It's one of his better works and was made right before Out 1.

So, I finally watched got a chance to see it. I would recommend it. I don't know if its necessary to see it in one sitting, two would probably have been fine, but it goes by pretty quickly anyway. I can't figure out exactly why because it's not like a ton of stuff happens, it just all happens for a very long time and very slowly compared to a normal film. But it didn't feel like a TV show, more like a normal film in slow motion. Aside from the length, the acting was really great, the plot was poignant, and the film as a whole is a really, really impressive piece of work. Glad I saw it, now I have to catch up on Rivette's other stuff

Did you have time to see anything else from Rivette before watching this one?

I've seen a handful from him at random, not following ratings or guides, and it was all pretty impressive/distinctive in different ways.

Your impression of OUT reminds me a little of Celine and Julie, which seemed like it was going to be aimlessly long and uneventful. But the more I watched the more I was sucked into it.

Is this like the long obscure post-modern novel of film?

I just watched Paris Belongs to Us to see how Rivette got started.

It begins as a typical drama about a group of young artists in the city. Sometimes these sorts of movies can be a little dry if nothing much happens.

However this story adds an interesting dimension with noirish elements of paranoia, mystery and fatalism. The result lies somewhere between Cassavetes and Kiss Me Deadly. A solid first feature.

Now I'm interested to read some of Rivette's writing for Cahiers... I don't suppose anyone has a recommendation?
