What are your favorite giallos? What should I watch, other than Argento and Bava's well known films?

I've seen a few. Since giallo is all about the music and visuals, I'd recommend anything scored by Morricone or filmed by Storaro. Particularly Cosa avete fatto a solange, Black Belly of the Tarantula, The Fifth Cord and Le orme.

Fulci's Sette note in nero is essential too IMO.

Edwige Fenech is a popular giallo actress but her films left me a little disappointed for whatever reason. Lo strano vizio della Signora Wardh is probably the first thing to watch from her.

A couple others worth a look are Delirio caldo (more of a sexy movie) and Death Lays an Egg (poultry factory madness)

For some reason my reply I posted from my phone doesn't show or was deleted.

Thanks, anon. I will give those a try, they look interesting.

np, I also found this short giallo guide (written in 1992) on my hard drive. I never bothered to look at it before.

Its ratings might be more helpful than IMDB. I already see a few I want to check out like Slaughter Hotel and Knife of Ice

I wouldn't have used imdb ratings for this kind of movies, anyway. I usually browse the trackers and see what screencaps spark my interest or what others recommend.

Saw Sette note in nero yesterday. It was pretty good. Tamer than what I would have expected from Fulci, but it was interesting nonetheless. I liked that it didn't fit the usual giallo narrative of a 3-4 murder set pieces whodunit.

Yeah Fulci is known for gore but that genre doesn't appeal to me very much. His mystery/thrillers are pretty good though. Two other gialli from Fulci are Don't Torture a Duckling and A Lizard in Woman's Skin. There's Una sull'atra too but I remember it as more of an erotic thriller.

I like that method myself. Tinto Brass made a giallo called Col cuore in gola AKA Deadly Sweet which I downloaded based on the cool screenshots, but I never got around to watching it. It appears to have some great 60s pop art as part of the set design.

Lizard in Woman's Skin was pretty good visually. Don't go into it for the murder mystery.

Check out Helena Cattet and Bruno Forzani's other work, including their shorts. It's worth it, especially their later ones with a bit of a budget.

I also think Four Flies on Grey Velvet was underrated.

Went into Bay of Blood thinking it was giallo but it really was a slasher.

Haven't seen that much else, ive been slacking off in the giallo department but will use suggestions from this thread, thanks.
