Australia is a big country for the population it has. The 25 million citizens of Oceania’s largest nation sometimes have to cross thousands of miles to get to see family. As fuel prices have risen and excise and taxes (which account for more than 30 percent of the cost of fuel at the pump) gone up with it, some people are having to cut back on traveling.
None of these stories have hit home harder than a Queensland grandmother who took up a call to arms to protest rising fuel prices.
Ms Sabrina Lamont, the retired music teacher who lives off-grid just outside of Bundaberg claims that she now has to give up what she loves doing most: teaching music to isolated children in the outback.
Because of the current fuel cost, she can no longer afford to keep buying petrol to travel 500km a week to teach the children.
