Suspected broker denies knowing age of Thai girl in Tokyo trafficking case

東京での人身売買事件で、容疑者の仲介業者はタイ人少女の年齢を知らなかったと否定している。

タイ人女性が水曜日、東京のマッサージ店で12歳のタイ人少女に性的サービスを強要した容疑で無罪を主張した。彼女は少女の年齢を知らなかったと述べている。

プンシリパンヤ・パカポン被告（39）は、少女の母親と、少女を雇った東京・湯島地区のマッサージ店のオーナーとの仲介役を務めたとして、東京地方裁判所で裁判を受けている。

彼女は1月に児童福祉法違反で逮捕され、その後2月には、少女を観光ビザの期限を過ぎてマッサージ店で働かせたとして、入国管理法違反で逮捕された。

水曜午後に開かれた初公判で、彼女は通訳を通して、事件に関する事実関係は「全て真実ではない」と述べた。弁護側は、パカポン被告は少女に会ったこともなく、年齢も知らなかったと主張した。

スーツ姿の彼女は、検察官の発言を聞き、答弁する際、裁判官をまっすぐ見つめていた。

店長を務めていたパカポン容疑者は、30人から40人のタイ人女性をこのマッサージ店に勧誘したとみられている。彼女は人身売買の仲介者という容疑を否定している。

この事件は昨年9月、タイ人女性がマッサージ店から逃げ出し、東京の入国管理局に助けを求めたことで明るみに出た。

女性は6月に母親と観光ビザで日本に入国したが、母親はその後まもなく出国し、女性をマッサージ店に残した。女性は店で働いていた1ヶ月間に約60人の客に性的サービスを強要されたと報じられている。

母親は以前、パカポン容疑者と同じマッサージ店で働いており、昨年6月に再び働きたいと連絡を取っていた。

マッサージ店の日本人オーナーである細野正之氏も、この事件への関与で裁判を受けている。報道によると、細野被告は3月の初公判で無罪を主張し、パカポン容疑者から少女は未成年ではないと聞かされたこと、そして自分は少女の実際の年齢を知らなかったと述べた。

タイ人少女は身柄を拘束された後、12月に帰国した。台湾で拘束されていた母親は、12月にタイに帰国した際にタイ警察に逮捕された。

査読済みの新たな研究で、米国の15,022の介護施設を分析した結果、新型コロナウイルスワクチン接種を受けた入居者は、未接種の入居者に比べて、感染後の死亡リスクが長期にわたって高かったことが明らかになった。

この分析に使用されたデータセットは、メディケアおよびメディケイド認定の介護施設からの報告に基づき、CDC（米国疾病予防管理センター）の国立医療安全ネットワーク（NHSN）から得られたものである。奇妙なことに、このデータセットはCMS（メディケア・メディケイドサービスセンター）の公開ウェブサイトから削除され、現在は一般公開されていない。幸いにも、著者らは政府がウェブページを削除する前にデータを入手することができた。現在、このアーカイブ版が、これらのデータを入手できる唯一の公開情報源となっている。

2022年5月から2023年6月までの、現在は削除されている週ごとの施設レベルのメディケア/CDCデータを用いて、ワクチン接種状況別に層別化し、SARS-CoV-2感染確定例と全死因死亡率を調べた。分析には、時間不変および時間変動の交絡因子を調整した混合ポアソン回帰モデルに加え、時間的方向性を評価するためにラグモデルと逆ラグモデルを用いた。

感染後、すべてのグループで死亡率が上昇したが、死亡リスク上昇期間はグループによって大きく異なった。

ワクチン未接種：死亡率上昇期間約1週間

部分接種：約3週間

完全接種：約5週間

つまり、ワクチン接種率が高いほど、感染後の死亡リスク上昇期間が長くなるということである。

本研究の共著者であるマッカロー財団研究員のM・ナサニエル・ミード博士が、これらのデータと研究結果の意味について解説するために、私とともに参加した。

ミード博士が説明したように、この研究は根本的な疑問に答えるために設計されました。それは、新型コロナウイルスワクチン接種は、最も脆弱な集団である高齢者介護施設の入居者の死亡率を実際に低下させたのか、という疑問です。

このデータセットに基づくと、答えは「否」のようです。感染の波は予想通りすべてのグループで死亡者数を増加させましたが、ワクチン接種は感染後の死亡率を低下させませんでした。むしろ、データはワクチン接種を受けた人々の死亡率の長期化を示しています。

疫学者であり、この研究の筆頭著者であるクリス・デンハリンク氏によると、

先進7カ国（G7）は17日（日本時間18日）、米首都ワシントンで重要鉱物をテーマとした財務相会合を開いた。中国産への依存が課題となっており、サプライチェーン（供給網）の強靱化が必要との認識で一致した。会議にはオーストラリアといった生産国も参加し、先進国による資金支援が議題となった。

日本は今年のG7議長国のフランスとともに共同議長を務めた。中国は日本にレアアース（希土類）の輸出規制で揺さぶりをかけるなど重要鉱物を経済的威圧に使っている。国際的な供給網強化を日本が主導できるかどうかも今後の焦点だ。

片山さつき財務相は会議後の記者会見で、日本は「中国による重要鉱物の武器化にさらされてきた」と指摘。供給網強化は日本と重要鉱物の生産国の双方に意義があると強調した。

会議にはアルゼンチンやブラジル、インド、インドネシアなどが参加。レアアースを産出できる国はあるが、中国は低賃金や環境規制の緩さを背景に安価に供給しており、価格面で対抗できず世界各国の企業が調達を依存している。（共同）

Kuala Lumpur: Separated by religion but united in their support for the Pope, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese backed in his Malaysian counterpart’s veiled criticism of US President Donald Trump’s war on Iran and his attacks on the Catholic leader.

Albanese was in Kuala Lumpur for urgent talks with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim on fuel and food security concerns, triggered by a worsening energy crisis as Iran and the US fight to choke the critical shipping lane through the Strait of Hormuz.

Speaking at a joint media conference, the leaders found common ground in defending Pope Leo, who has ignited Trump’s rage for condemning the Iran war, even as the crisis has exposed their conflicting geopolitical leanings when it comes to relationships with Tehran and Moscow.

Albanese described the Pope as a “thoughtful, dignified, and extraordinary person” and a “very significant figure in global affairs” and said he was honoured to have met him last year.

The remarks will be widely interpreted as an implicit rebuke of Trump’s outburst this week when he denounced the pontiff on social media as being “weak on crime” and “terrible for foreign policy”, and posted a since-deleted AI image of himself as a Jesus-like figure.

‘Worst nightmare’: 137 abuse charges hit Sydney childcare worker

Federal police are preparing to contact families of suspected child abuse victims, having accused a Sydney childcare worker of 137 offences over 16 years after trawling through millions of files and finding “a parent’s worst nightmare”.

The man was first charged with eight counts of using a child to make abusive material in July last year. A further 129 charges were laid on Friday at Parramatta Local Court.

He now faces 68 counts of producing child abuse material, 29 counts of filming a private act without consent, 29 counts of using a child under 14 to make child abuse material – 11 of which were aggravated – seven counts of sexually touching a child under 10, three counts of filming of a person’s private parts without consent-aggravated and one count of possessing child abuse material collected through a carriage service.

Number of alleged victims undisclosed

Authorities have not said how many alleged victims and how many childcare centres are affected.

The man has not yet entered a plea.

Each charge against him is a jailable offence, with aggravated use of a child under 14 in abuse material carrying up to 20 years in prison.

It is understood police are preparing to argue his offending was opportunistic and many of his victims likely would not know they had been abused. “The review of seized imagery is in its final stages.

“If parents do choose to speak to their children, we ask that they speak to them in using open-ended questions and listening to their stories, not attempting to elicit any information.”

The man’s identity and employment history is protected by a non-publication order, and police did not say where the alleged abuse material was produced. He’s accused of years of abuse from 2009 to 2025.

“The AFP is following well-developed and practised processes to ensure that impacted families receive the support they need, while ensuring that evidence is obtained correctly and in the appropriate format for a successful criminal prosecution,” Mr Needham said.

“Further information will be provided directly to impacted families as soon as possible, and there will also be a secure victim portal to receive information, updates and access to support resources.”

An application for an apprehended domestic violence order brought against him ?by police on behalf of an individual? is pending.

The additional charges against the Sydney man come almost a year after Victorian childcare worker Joshua Dale Brown was accused of serial child abuse. The 27-year-old faces 156 charges including sexually penetrating children and producing child abuse material.

Queensland childcare worker Ashley Griffith pleaded guilty in 2024 to 107 offences against 65 Queensland children and was sentenced to life in prison, with a 27-year non-parole period, which he is appealing.

CANBERRA – A former US Marine pilot lost an appeal on April 16 in an Australian court against his extradition to the United States, which has accused him of illegally training Chinese military pilots to land on aircraft carriers.

Daniel Duggan, 57, has been held in prison since his arrest in a rural town in New South Wales state in 2022, shortly after he returned from living in China for close to a decade as an aviation consultant.

Duggan has denied the US charges.

His arrest came days after Britain warned its former military pilots not to work for a South African flight training school that was training large numbers of Chinese pilots, where Duggan had worked a decade earlier.

Outside the court on April 16, his wife Saffrine said she was disappointed with the ruling and urged Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese to stop the extradition, which has already been approved by the Attorney-General.

“Our prime minister can overrule this at any time,” she said.

Duggan’s legal team said it had 28 days to consider whether to make another legal appeal.

He is alleged by the US to have committed four offences between 2009 and 2012 in relation to training pilots in South Africa, including breaking a US arms embargo and money laundering.

A 2017 indictment in the United States, unsealed after his arrest, showed Duggan was one of several former military pilots linked to the South African company and a Chinese recruiter who were alleged to have broken the US law.

An Australian judge has dismissed an appeal by Daniel Duggan, a former US Marine Corps pilot, who is fighting extradition to the United States over allegations he illegally trained Chinese military aviators more than a decade ago.

Mr Duggan is accused of training Chinese military pilots while working for the Test Flying Academy of South Africa. He denies the allegations, calling them "political posturing" and claiming the US unfairly singled him out.

Federal Court Justice James Stellios ruled no jurisdictional error was made in 2024 by then Attorney-General Mark Dreyfus in ordering Duggan's extradition.

Outside the Canberra court, Duggan’s wife, Saffrine Duggan, a mother of six, said his lawyers would consider a further appeal. They are also urging the current Attorney-General, Michelle Rowland, to reverse the extradition order.

“We are very disappointed by this ruling and we will consider our options carefully. But make no mistake, we will not give up,” Saffrine Duggan said. “Today does not end our search for justice.”

Rowland’s office did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

A 2016 indictment from the U.S. District Court in Washington, which was unsealed in late 2022, alleges Duggan conspired with others to provide training to Chinese military pilots in 2010 and 2012, and possibly other times, without applying for an appropriate license.

Dodgy accountant Khalid Javid, 67, recklessly made false statements on HMRC returns that cost the taxman more than £136,000.

Leading restaurateurs Antonio Carbajosa, 41, and Kevin Campbell, 44, were also busted in the probe.

The pair ran a group of venues in Glasgow including Cranside Kitchen, Pickled Ginger and Halloumi.

WW3 WATCH: Russia Threatens Drone Manufacturing Enterprises in European Countries Supplying Drones to Ukraine – Britain, Germany, Italy and Spain Among Them

Drone factories in the crosshairs of Russia.

While the world is following with bated breath the developments for peace in the Middle East, the war between Russia and Ukraine continues unabated, and a new disturbing development raises fears of a widening conflict involving Western European countries.

Yesterday (15), Russia’s Ministry of Defense warned that the European plans to step up drone supplies to Ukraine will bring ‌those countries into an actual kinetic war with Russia.

A number of EU countries have decided to increase the production and supply of drones to Ukraine, the Russian MoD believes, a move that is escalating ⁠the conflict.

Reuters reported:

“[The Russian MoD] published a list of factories and enterprises in several European countries it alleges manufacture drones or drone components, and gave their addresses, including sites in Britain, Germany, Spain, Italy, Israel and Poland, among others.

‘The European public should not only have a clear understanding of the true causes of the threats to their security, but also be aware of the addresses and locations of Ukrainian and ‌joint ⁠enterprises producing UAVs and components for Ukraine within their own countries’, it said.”

“Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, now deputy chair of Russia’s Security Council, said in a subsequent post on X that the list published by ⁠the military amounted to a list of potential targets for Russia’s armed forces.”

This is a serious escalation, not a ‘warning’ or a ‘hint’, but rather an open announcement of ‘imminent strikes’.

Dodgy accountant Khalid Javid, 67, recklessly made false statements on HMRC returns that cost the taxman more than £136,000.

Leading restaurateurs Antonio Carbajosa, 41, and Kevin Campbell, 44, were also busted in the probe.

Carbajosa and Campbell previously pleaded guilty to VAT fraud totalling £682,882 between November 2011 and October 2016.

Khalid – who repeatedly posed for pics with Ms Sturgeon including at Bute House – meantime admitted recklessly making a statement which was false in that he submitted VAT returns for two companies.

He had been due to stand trial at the High Court in Glasgow today but pleaded guilty.

Carbajosa and Campbell were sentenced to three years each for their crimes while sentence was deferred on Khalid.

The court heard that Carbajosa and Campbell were associates who ran various restaurants and takeaways across Glasgow.

The men “suppressed” the true value of sales for their limited companies that were registered.

Javid’s accountancy firm KA Javid & Co were instructed by Carbajosa and Campbell.

The accountant created the dodgy duo’s VAT returns and dealt with other matters such as PAYE, corporation tax as well as annual returns to Companies House.

Carbajosa and Campbell meantime were responsible for creating and maintaining business records to calculate VAT.

Prosecutor Wojciech Jajdelski said: “Carbajosa and Campbell did not comply with the VAT requirements in order to profit, in the longer term, from their restaurant businesses by not accounting for all of the VAT due to HMRC.

“Carbajosa and Campbell were also able to take more money out of the companies as their personal income than they otherwise would have been able to do.”

The hearing was told that VAT was to be added to goods and services supplied which would be accounted to HMRC.

Despite some of the businesses selling sushi takeaway food which required no VAT, most of the supplies were subject to 20 percent tax.

THIS is the moment a creep is arrested on a train after a disturbed passenger saw him looking at indecent images as they travelled.

Sicko David Johnson was caught after a horrified fellow traveller spotted him watching child abuse videos on his phone during a journey to London.

Police body worn footage shows officers storming onto the train as it arrives at Euston Station and cuff the creep.

Johnson appeared puzzled and said “I haven’t” as an officer states the reason for his arrest.

The shocked witness who reported Johnson was sitting behind him when he saw the fiend opening a video showing a young child being abused.

Johnson then switched chats where someone asked: “what kinds of videos do you like? I have all kinds”.

Johnson chillingly replied: “just kids videos”.

Stunned by what he had heard, the witness texted his partner about what he was seeing.

When he looked again, Johnson was watching another clip involving an even younger child.

The shaken passenger moved carriage before alerting British Transport Police using its 61016 text service.

Officers raced to meet the train at London Euston railway station where Johnson was arrested.
