Hey /film/, KG's MoM is Hungarian film, I have only seen a couple films by Jancso and Tarr so I don't really know what's good when it comes to Hungary. Any recs for Hungarian films?

I've seen a dozen or so and enjoyed all of them. There was some Hungarian film chart on 4chan but it was something like 16 films from only 3-4 directors.

A couple of other notable directors are György Pálfi (who seems to be very versatile) and Zoltán Fábri.
Also worth a look is the visual poetry of Szindbad and banned satire The Witness.

Budapest 12 as chosen in 2000 by Hungarian film critics. This page seems to have a second set spanning from 1948-68.

> Jeles András: A kis Valentino

I was pretty impressed with Angyali üdvözlet a.k.a. The Annunciation from the same director. The film uses meticulously-costumed child actors in an adaptation of a popular Hungarian dramatic poem called "The Tragedy of Man". It's often dense and disorienting on the first viewing, but it should definitely be mentioned in this thread. You'll probably like it if you're into unusual films.

>Hungarian dramatic poem called "The Tragedy of Man"

Sounds cool. That must be the same story as this animated film >>4506
