8chan migration is nearly 2/3 complete. Once migration has finished, we will begin using the new site. You can monitor the progress at https://twitter.com/8ntech/ and >>>/next/3556

Posts on /film/ after No. 6502 will not be on the new site when we switch, so you might want to hold off on posting for about a day. That said, we will try to manually recreate whatever gets posted in the interim and feel free to ask questions here if you have any.

 No.6504

The beta site is now up again: https://beta.8ch.net/film/

This URL will point there eventually.

What a rough week. Infinity Next is simply not working so disregard what I said about posting on the beta site. Post wherever works best for you and we'll worry about retaining those posts later. It's better to have some activity, any activity, than to wait and wait and wait for a site migration that never seems to come.

The beta site is slow and often unavailable (it's down again now in fact). It's missing many features and does not work with some browsers. I won't be heartbroken if they give up on the project because technical issues and meta drama could easily become ongoing distractions. I just want a simple functional imageboard where people can discuss film. I might set up a bunker on another chan so we have an alternate posting location for any future downtime and clusterfuckery on 8chan.

Update: https://notehub.org/346di

> So the current migration has been scrapped. I'm turning off the event horizon banners.

Later today I will try to move the past week of posts back here. It sounds like we may try to migrate again in about two weeks.

So infinity next is coming, but on another server?

 No.6511

>>6508

I think Josh is going to try to get the Next software to work on the same server. If that does not work, Plan B is to fix vichan (the current site) somehow.

If you want more details, there's a long thread >>>/tech/491012 on the current situation where /film/ is mentioned and Hotwheels posts for the first time in a long time.

>>6511

That wasn't very informative, what a clusterfuck tbh.

> what a clusterfuck tbh.

Yes indeed. The most recent status update ( https://ghostbin.com/paste/vwuwd ) mentions a possible third attempted migration at the end of the month.

HW says on twitter he is working on "vichan modernization" which is what I would prefer at this point - just fix this site. But for now that is not the primary option.

Posting off topic Q here because meta thread.

Do any film oriented real-time imageboards exist yet? i.e. running meguca

 No.6610

So Infinity Next is pretty much over (...for now). The software still does not work properly and HW had a falling out with the developer Josh: https://twitter.com/HW_BEAT_THAT/status/691419336775368704

Here's the stream of HW addressing the situation if you want more details (skip to 3:45) - http://b.1339.cf/engxndg.ogg

There's a sitewide poll ( http://poal.me/1kvhve ) about what people want to do moving forward -- fix Vichan, try Lynxchan ( http://lynxhub.com/ ), or attempt to salvage Next. Fix Vichan is currently winning.

>>6606

I don't know of other film imageboards, either realtime or not. Realtime was suggested for Next but most people didn't seem to like it.

Board Watch is a similar feature I wish we had though. You'd be notified of new posts on designated boards without checking them.

One more note to follow up on something mentioned above: I've set up an experimental alt board here:

http://endchan.xyz/film/

You can use the board as a bunker in case this one goes down for maintenance, upgrades, DDoS, etc. You can also use it as a direct download hoster for files up to 350 MB. I'm using it to become familiar with Lynxchan, which might be the software that 8chan uses eventually:

<capone> how much work we put on vichan until we try the next option
<~copypaste> lynx will be tried after that
<~copypaste> i won't struggle with vichan for longer than a month
<~copypaste> before trying something else

>>14006

Whole thing is even more messy if we read the recent installments of the saga, with HW denying everything in >>6610

All i know is that ∞chan is completely compromised in almost all fronts, and in case of (total site) crisis there's no permanent place other than xyz, and who knows if they want us.

 No.14009

Thankfully Infinity Next didn't work out. I hated it.

HW was last seen complaining that he didn't have enough help as admin. Perhaps that's true, but he didn't care very much either. He was barely around toward the end. And worse, he was dumb enough to put the whole site in Josh's hands.

>endchan

Last I checked it's mostly dead aside from their blackpilled /pol/. meguca.org is probably a better option.

 No.14011

>All these retards suggesting imageboards.

Imageboards are dead Jim. Let them go. It's time for /film/ to go professional and start our own film company.

 No.14012

stop necroposting shit

 No.14014

>>14011

Nothing wrong with refreshing the mind a little if something hits the fan, and we can see there's nothing around other than what >>14010 said, which is a sad state of affairs in terms of the whole site's userbase, but perhaps not /film/ itself.

Starting our own production or company means having time to do it >for free for about as long as we manage to create anything, either screenplays, shorts, acting, etc. And i think most of us are here for the hobby and the slim possibility of using our knowledge to do or help something/someone.

And i know it's a joke but trying to pull something like that (physically) is as plausible as /pol/ or /k/ buying that african/oceanic island to make an ethnostate. Digitally there's everything for it but given the time lapses and tastes i think everyone works better alone, unless it's a screenplay and it needs second opinions or inking/coloring if you wanna go fancy/executive.

That last one might happen someday if you guys still roam around in 2 to 3 years It's been almost 5 since we came from m00tchan

we should just move on to discord at this point. :^)
