I usually come here to lurk and learn stuff about outdoor living since I'm a big fan of being outside and working.
Me and some people are currently working on a project where we are setting up a crowdfunded at the moment, to buy land somewhere in Canada (location/country not 100% sure right now but Canada seems like the best option right now since land is very cheap).
The idea is to build up a self-sustainable eco-friendly village out in the open where we can hunt/fish/work/build, well just do things that we enjoy doing outdoors. We have people with various skills and backgrounds and have been planning/working on this idea for over 5-6 months now.
Well so you get an idea of what you can do there: The plot we're currently looking at is in Ontario, Canada. Its 65 hectares (650'000m2) of land and costs only 16'000 USD and you can pay 7'000 and then 200 dollars per month until the whole 16k is paid!
It's not to far away from a pretty big town and as I said, outside in the open near a river and between 2 larger lakes.
This is a great place to experience canadian wildlife and beautiful landscapes so that's why i came here.
Would there be any people interested in join in on the project/help funding ? I'm not asking you to come along and live over there but it could be a great place if you would like to spend time each year out in the free (or a great getaway if the west turns to shit hehe). Well if you want more info on the project or just talk some about it I'll lurk the thread and could provide some sort of chat platform!

I was planning on getting myself pic related (Taipen takedown bow) as it is cheap but it also seems decent. I want to start doing bow hunting and general archery but I'm not sure what equipment to start off with. I don't want to spend two thousand dollars on a tactikool compound bow and there are very sexy looking recurves out there. I just want to know if any sc/out/s who have experience in archery and bows in general can recommend me some decent first time bows which won't leave me broke.

What kind of camouflage or patterns do you wear when innawoods?
My favorite pants are a pair of BDU Three-Color Desert used in the 90s, I have maybe three pairs of varying fading and wear. It don't really feel like I'm "experiencing the outdoors" unless I'm wearing some form of camo or earthly tones, I think blue jeans are a sin outside of the city or suburbia. Thoughts?

so where are my dirt road soldiers at? I grew up going barefoot everywhere. on grass, dirt, mud puddles, even pebble roads and hot pavement don't really bother me. I usually only wear flip flops except at work. barefoot innawoods is a must.

Where is /out/ from?
Where are you from? What's the /out/doors like there? Local trails/recommended hiking areas?From Vermont myself. Basically everyone lives in or near the woods here because the woods are almost everywhere.
The weather is all over the place around here. So much so that we have a saying, "If you don't like the weather, just stick around for a few minutes." It is known for being on the cold side (average temperature is 41º). Winter is generally pretty long and brutal but if you're into it, it's a great place to be for the snowy season.
Exploring can be pretty rewarding and we have 52 sanctioned state parks for hiking, biking, skiing or whatever else, but I've had good times just roaming around my backyard if I don't feel like driving anywhere.
Green River Reservoir and Kettle Pond are some good remote camping areas, as for hiking, some of the better known mountains are Mt. Ascutney, Smuggler's Notch and Wantasequet, though the latter is actually in NH, I live within sight of it, so I hike it often. Not to mention, the Appalachian Trail runs through here so there are some great hikes along it like Gifford Woods.
The people around here are mostly hippies which is actually a good thing because it means that wild camping is allowed (or at least, no one cares) and most people are willing to hike at any time so I rarely go at it alone.

Hi /out/, I've had an emergency and have no home, until Saturday.
Any tips from you guys on how to rough it and manage to also work a job on the side?
I like to go camping and then once I have my site secure with firewood I get ready for some light swimming, fishing, hiking, exploring.
Getting a map of a new area to make sure you aren't going over private property or some type of park reserve is recommended. You want semi-wild to wild areas instead of getting into legal situations.
I set up my tent in as open a space as I can find, I only go in summers. Then I seek out at least a 20 metre walk into the thick to find a recently fallen tree for some big firewood logs. After tht I mostly pick up the dry sticks that are all over the place. Once I have enough for the night and next after noon I set out to explore the nearest water. When it's a river there is little to do however if there is a lake nearby I check out the shore and figure out how deep it goes and what the bottom looks like. If it's a semi-wild area then I check for recent garbage especially glass.
Once I've had a swim and all the firewood is ready, provided I arrived early in the day, I go out walking the area. No more than 30 minutes before heading back again. I attempt to stay within sight of either the water edge or some other clearing so that I don't lose my direction. I note any major fallen trees for some medium sized wood in the next few days. I get back to my tent and start a cozy fire. Usually with some sausages to roast over the heat. When I bring others we talk about whatever then. I don't do ghost stories that's boring. We might talk about the future of owning and living in many places like this.
The next day if there is a lake nearby I will go swimming whenever I wake up. I love that fresh water dive.
What to do if you spot a bear? Hope you remembered to eat all the meat you brought with you the day before and dispose of anything that touched the meat and washed your hands. Bears will walk the other way as soon as they see or sniff you out. You'll only want to be careful when you walk around that you don't get near any mothers but that is only more of a problem in the spring.
Get your shoes on lets go for a few hours walk. It's so good out here in the forest.

Hey /out/. In a few years i'm planning to go traveling for a while, I dont know how long I will be traveling, but I know I want to see everything or get relatively close to it. I have the funds to do so.
I dont mind transportation but I would like to travel on foot mostly unless I require othermeans to get to my destination.
Anyways, I need some ideas on where to go. I guess to be specifically, "must sees" of the world.
Also, just a thing to note, I would have a steady income flow more than enough to support one man due to percapita from being Native American but I dont want to rely on that too much.
Backpacking Cross Country
Hey /out/. I just turned 18 and have been wanting to do this for awhile now.I want to go backpacking across the country because I'm itching for adventure and want to step out of both my comfort zone and my monotonous lifestyle. Also because my mother can't support my neet ass and I don't want to get a job at this young age, becoming a wage slave.
Anyway, let's say I have a budget of around 300 dollars. Maybe more, maybe less.
What do I buy? I'm thinking I would just get milsurp shit since they're pretty sturdy, and I'm on a budget. What would you guys recommend?

Does Urban Exploration count as /out/? - Advice
Posting here because halfchan is failing at one of the simplest of tasks for an imageboard, posting (go figure). Here's the thread on half: https://boards.4chan.org/out/thread/450933/Now, I'm connotating the term "urban exploration" to mean NOT just abandoned areas, but an entire city.
Take Boston, for example.
I will likely in the future have the opportunity to return there, the first time I visited it was for about 3 days. The freedom of the city (never used a subway before, good walkability, etc.) blew me away and gave me an idea for if I were ever to return: to go around the city with little to nothing on me.
Of course, I'd have residence there, but while exploring the city (probably on average 6+ hours at a time) I was thinking of the following to carry:
Flip phone
Light watch and hoodie
(Possibly) a camera
The carry is light to minimize loss in the case I were to get mugged/robbed. No weapons are in the carry because evasion is my best bet if I were to build up my endurance (mentioned on the half thread)
I'm sure there's more to it than just that. Has anyone else done something similar? Feel free to nitpick at parts of the idea that may not work— I'm open to criticism.
Hello /out/, I was wondering how many of you here have plans for homesteading, or self sufficiency? basically like a long term version of going innawoods or bug out bag, it is being able to provide for yourself over a very long period of time.
Skills required to do so among many would be farming, animal husbandry, hunting, fishing, trapping, and maybe a small textile place where you can make your own clothes.
The point of going through with all this is I want to live outside of the US in a random country in the middle of nowhere, far far away from the US when it does collapse. I was wondering if anyone else had plans like this, how they are preparing themselves, and id just like to get to know people with the same idea I have. thanks.

Planting Season
Hey lads, its getting to be that time of year again. What have you got planned for your gardens this year? I'm doing potatoes, onions, carrots, cherry tomatoes, garlic, basil, parsley, and oregano on my porch. I have an upside down hanger for the cherry tomatoes and I found a new setup for the potatoes where you use a bamboo cage around the plant and fill it with hay instead of burying the potatoes with dirt as they grow. I'm looking for a full survival guide on how to live in the wilderness. I found one on online (I think it was 8chan?) a while back. It was an imgur link with a ton of pictures and descriptions of stuff under each one.
I want to live innawoods for about 2 or 3 months or so. I've always liked to fish and have outdoor adventures, never been huge into hunting but I've done it a lot. I don't want to try and go out with minimal supplies and use nature to my advantage to survive or anything, I want to be prepared when I leave. I just need to know techniques and everything to bring, including what gun, knives, tent, clothes, fishing poles, supplies, etc.

So, /out/, I'm going on a 3-4 night camping trip in a backwoods campsite on the north of Vancouver Island (amenities are clean water and an outhouse, plus the occasional patrol to make sure there're no dead bodies lying around) in February.I'm an idiot who has only ever gone summer camping at pleb campsites. (Hot water/showers, firewood sold on-site, etc)
I figure I'd bring a week's worth of supplies, but avoid using the easy option unless we'd be fucked otherwise.
I.e., try to find dry wood/kindling in the snowy forests and make our own fires, but if we prove so incompetent that we can't even manage that, we have a camp stove, fuel, and our own kindling, etc, so that we don't freeze/starve. Basically, I want to get into outdoorsmanship, but recognize that I am a blithering yuppie who's gonna fuck up a lot before he gits gud.
Have any of you ever been winter camping? Anything you'd recommend a moron bring that I might not think of?

They're like my little non-sexual fetish,and I decided I want a big one.All stuff I found was too damn expensive,until I came across Skyray king.This piece of shit I'm talking about is like $75 with batteries (4x 4000 mAh) and charger,it has 9 XM-L T6 LEDs,and they advise it has 15000 lumens.That's impossible,since one T6 led emits maximum of 910 lumens @ 10 watts.But still,it should be a lot of light.On full charge it should work for 210 minutes,so if they don't lie about the batteries capacity,that should mean it has 24 watts and around 2300 lumens (that's what I calculated,it's very estimated,but still closer to reality than 15000).So,does anyone here have some experience with those pieces of cheap aluminium,optionally alternatives for maximally around $100 with batteries and charger? Thanks.

Faggots over at /k/ keep telling me to go innawoods, but I'm not sure exactly where I go to do that.Is it even possible to legally go out into some woods to camp in America? The closest I've heard of is "rustic sites" where a campsite just gives you a slightly larger area.
Is it easy and safe enough to just sit in a State Park overnight? The worst we have around here are coyotes as far as I know.
